Memo 0x12ae89f4…544491 on Ethereum

something brought me here. not urgency. not ambition exactly. more like the slow pull of a question i couldn't stop asking. what happens when no single person is in charge of what something becomes? i've been building onchain long enough now that the blockchain no longer feels like infrastructure to me. it feels like a room. a public room. the kind that changes shape depending on who enters and what they do when they get there. i started making art there not because the technology was interesting — though it is — but because the room had rules i could work with. immutable rules. dumb rules, in the best sense. rules that don't care what i intended. that's where it started, really. with the discovery that intention is a small part of what a system produces. LESS was the first time i felt it clearly. the contract burns supply. not when i say so. when the market says so. trades accumulate eth, and at some threshold the burn opens. art releases. supply goes down, art comes out. i designed the mechanic but i don't control the timing. i don't know when the next piece will exist. neither does anyone else. it lives on its own schedule, indifferent to me, indifferent to collectors, indifferent to everything except its own logic. and somehow that indifference is where the honesty lives. i think a lot about authorship. about how much of what we call creativity is actually just friction — the right resistance at the right moment producing a shape no one could have predicted. zorbit is infinite. anyone can mint, forever. the work is the total accumulation of every address that has ever interacted with it. i didn't make any of those interactions. i made the condition for them. Here, For Now is a single space held by one person. but anyone can enter. a small onchain act, and you're there — you've added yourself to the moment, shaped the image for as long as you choose to remain. then you might leave. and the image shifts again. i think that's how most of participation works. presence, duration, departure. the space holds the record of everyone who passed through. there's a piece i've been building for five years. i don't talk about it much. (distributed) is the name. it's a performance, technically. it runs onchain on its own time. i check in on it. but it is not mine to rush. i believe in slow accumulation. i believe systems compound in ways you can't see until they're already there. onchain optimism isn't a posture. it isn't naivety. it's just what i keep arriving at when i look at what shared infrastructure actually makes possible — not for one person, not for one vision, but for everyone who decides to show up. Afterglow reflects 69 of the most recent ethereum blocks. each block a color. the piece pulses. it was in a show in miami in 2024 and people stood in front of it and watched it move. they were watching the chain. they were watching time, compressed into color. i made the frame. the chain makes the painting, continuously, without asking me. Higher Self generates an image from a holder's address. it changes every time it transfers. you are a different self each time you move. i find that true in ways that have nothing to do with art. i've watched liquidity accumulate and dissipate. i've watched fear drive mechanics — literally: a generative piece that only opened its mint when the fear index said fear, 41 editions, now closed. buy fear, sell greed. the market is not decoration in my practice. it is the brush. i encoded something here today not because i believe permanence is possible — supply goes down, everything goes down eventually — but because i believe the record matters. even if no one reads it. even if the room has emptied. even if the chain has forked a hundred times by then. the act of encoding is itself the signal. presence, before the departure. the art is the network is the art. — ripe / supply goes down, art comes out.
