I’ve decided not to push this candidate into a full proposal over the holiday period. Historically, engagement drops around Xmas, and I want to give this the best possible chance to be evaluated with full attention and participation. I’ll resume active promotion and move toward graduation in the first week of January.
In parallel, after DM’ing with several Nouners and reflecting on feedback (both explicit and implicit), I’m making a meaningful change to the budget.
To stack the odds in favour of this passing (and to remove any ambiguity around incentives) I’m drastically reducing the portion of the ask that covers roles I’m personally responsible for. This isn’t best practice from a conventional business planning perspective, but governance isn’t conventional business. One of the few levers I control is my own compensation, and I’m choosing to pull it.
The funds allocated to Verse and to external critics remain at industry norms. Those roles are essential to making this work, and asking others to contribute professional labour for free would be unreasonable.
This change reflects how seriously I take getting this right, and how committed I am to seeing the proposal succeed on its merits.
I’ll update the candidate with the revised numbers ahead of graduation. Feedback remains very welcome 🙏🏾
