For a recent app, I have set up a Linux server, implemented PHP7 scripts that pull a horse race Feed (JSON) from a bookmaker and save the data to a MySql database. Another script is transferring the crunched data to a Firebase Real-Time-Database.
The Firebase database is connected to a react-native app, which I have also developed, this way, I have live updates in the app without doing one ajax call, as soon as the data changes, the data changes in the app.
