For context on Benjamin’s vote... we had a direct exchange beforehand.
The disagreement wasn’t about feasibility. The question was what Nouns should be optimising for.
My position is that culture is Ethereum’s competitive moat, and art is its most legible, exportable form. Art on Ethereum isn’t a niche. It’s where money, value, identity, and meaning intersect. Encouraging serious discourse around on chain art isn’t ornamental; it strengthens ETH’s cultural gravity and long term stickiness. Post hype meta, many are starting to wake up to the importance of this. Even the Ethereum Foundation has begun leaning into this more explicitly.
For Nouns specifically, the DAO already spends ETH to create cultural moments. Flash in the pan moments. This proposal is about ensuring those moments have lasting impact. Documentation, interpretation, institutional memory. It moves Nouns from simply doing things to creating context, both inside and (most importantly) outside the ecosystem. That’s brand compounding, not spectacle.
A useful reframing that emerged in the conversation:
If this doesn’t get funded, very little changes for Nouns or Ethereum.
If it does, Nouns helps shape how on chain culture is interpreted, remembered and taken seriously... in perpetuity.
That leverage is why I believe this approach matters. It's not just about making ripples now that are quickly forgotten... It's about highlighting things that having significance and creating durable, influential memory long term.
