basepaint-documentary Obviously biased same as Winter but +1 what he said. I'd also add: 1. Leo's done an incredible job getting support together. I've followed at a distance and he hasn't stopped in spite of no simple solutions to funding the size and scope of the project. Instead of shrink the footprint, he's run through walls just to get to the starting line of this project. When I see an artist with that vision and tenacity, it's usually more than worth backing them. 2. Nouns should strongly consider more joint ventures with projects like Base (especially when these brands take the majority of the risk). Base is bought in, they'll push it hard, which has the potential to introduce Nouns brand to a new batch of users in the same way Yellow Collective et al have. The future of culture is L2s, Nouns should continue to embrace that.

# NounsDAO Incubates a Viral App Studio # TL;DR * Ultimately Winter and I are building viral things to catch fire because Web3 only wins if we give the world a *reason* to be onchain. * We’re asking for 16.6 ETH to fund a viral app studio incubator for 1 month * We’ve scoped 3 months total experimentation, 50ETH all-in should the DAO pass all 3 monthly proposals. * 1-3 viral apps launched per month, all open-source and CC0 * **Goal:** Create fun, weird, and viral experiments that expand the Nouns ecosystem and lore # Questions we have * Overall interest and general feedback! We think consumer, viral apps is how crypto wins and its important for NounsDAO to be part of that story. * Does NounsDAO agree with this? * We are requesting 50 ETH in total but only requesting 16E for the first tranche. The expectation is we’ll submit results in a new prop every month so the DAO can derisk this new approach. * Streaming the full 50ETH amount would be preferable since submitting a Prop is pretty heavy for a monthly cadence. 3-7 days of PT work to write, edit, submit, and rally votes… that eats a lot of building time! * We’ve heard feedback that streams aren’t often canceled, so folks don’t have a good mechanism to weigh in mid-stream, which is why we’re opting for the heavier prop-per-month method. * **Question: What if we we streamed 50ETH and committed to submitting a proposal every month to cancel our stream so folks had the opportunity to vote it down?** * **Speaking for myself:** This would be really interesting, actually! We could still provide context of what was done, but it would reduce weight to coordinate votes to pass while creating a space to ask/answer questions. Could be a fun opportunity to experiment w/ stream governance, and if we didn’t submit a proposal to cancel, that should be strong signal for the DAO to submit their own proposal and cancel our stream. # The Vision We're back with a revised proposal that we think captures the essence of what makes Nouns special: onchain creativity and viral meme propagation. Nouns incubating this viral consumer endgame ensures onchain wins, Nouns wins, and NounsDAO becomes a magnet for ambitious builders who want to swing for the fences. The Plan We're asking for 16.6 ETH over 3 months. Here's how it breaks down: **Month 1 (This Prop):** 16.6 ETH released upon proposal approval. We build 1-3 viral apps a month. **Month 2:** We submit another Prop for 16.6 ETH along with a review of Month 1’s launches. **Month 3:** We submit a final prop for 16.8 ETH along with a review of Month 2’s launches. On **Month 4,** we’ll share a retrospective of projects, impact, and what would be needed to continue. The DAO will have the option to decline to fund the experiment as it continues # What We'll Build Our focus is on building apps that crypto natives and normies can both be excited to use. We’re envisioning the next 3 months as rapid prototyping, fast iteration, and a near-constant stream of weird, wonderful experiments. When there’s revenue, a portion goes back to the DAO. BasePaint.xyz started as “wouldn’t it be cool if…” We scoped BasePaint in 2 hours, and launched it in 2 weeks. We have these conversations about NounsDAO weekly and want the time to build them. So, instead of specific projects, **we propose that we can build whatever, but whatever we build will have Nouns in its DNA:** * All apps will be onchain, open-source, and CC0 * They'll be fun to use and have viral hooks baked into their GTM to propagate the meme. * When/if there’s revenue, a portion will be diverted to NounsDAO treasury. # Why Trust Us? 1. Nearly 30 years total builder experience 2. We built BasePaint in 2 weeks 2. We built a DropFrame in a weekend 3. We maintain Nouns.sh 4. We submitted Prop 613 (it got voted down, but we learned a lot) Our goal isn't just to create applications just for the Nouns community, but to leverage Nouns' support to build successful, open-source, and CC0 projects that can make waves outside of NounsDAO disproportionate to the capital spent. We believe a few things about NounsDAO * **“Propagating the meme” != noggles:** Nounish memes are simple: onchain, weird, and forkable creativity. NounsDAO launched this movement in 2022. NounsDAO should do more to lead this 2024+. * **Talent Magnet:** By continuing to incubate successful projects, Nouns establishes itself as a magnet for other talented builders in the web3 space. * **⌐◨-◨ Should Set An Incredibly High Bar:** When Paradigm invests in protocols, you know Dan Robinson read their whitepaper. When the A24 slate runs at the top of a movie trailer, you know it will be high quality. If we want people to feel the same way when they see “Supported by ⌐◨-◨” in the masthead, NounsDAO should start incubating weird, wild experimentation. * **Ecosystem Expansion:** As these projects gain traction, they bring new participants into the Nouns ecosystem, indirectly growing and strengthening the community.
