@0x41CB...be4A
appreciate you trying it out.
it's not there yet, and with this prop i'm looking for support to get it there.
the direction in this prop is just how i see it.
if the dao doesn't want to go there with me, it's ok.
i appreciate nouns' help getting the first macos version live.
>
>
> i kind of cool having this art available, I open in the ipad, and it maximized the art appreciation, but I agree with JP, you are onto something that is not quite there yet. look forward the next iteration

> >
> > That said, I also believe going onchain requires a higher level of preparation, and I don’t think NFT Folder is quite there yet. Maybe I’m not fully understanding the product, but it feels like there’s a lot more potential that could be explored and built into this proposal. At the end of the day, I just couldn’t get excited enough about its current version.
@0xc6a3...96E4
i don’t like being accused of disingenuously attacking other proposers’ integrity.
if you stand by your words, please reply with specific links — just for the record.

when-math-is-not-mathingi’m not saying medicine or food initiatives shouldn’t be pursued.
with the small treasury, what should be looked for is the potential for artefacts to be reusable or scalable.
like, if it’s renovating a building, the same project or process should be replicable for similar types of buildings. if it’s software, it should be open for reuse or have the potential for wide distribution. if it’s a movie, the impact can be scaled through digital copies.
when-math-is-not-mathingbefore mathing specific projects, there has to be a consensus on what success looks like for a dao itself.
with a $7m treasury, there’s no way to feed the hungry or cure the sick.
nouns could be a vc for culture – making x1000 cultural bets instead of financial ones, thereby increasing the cultural and monetary value of the daily sold nouns.
from this, it could evolve into the funding distribution machine described by krel.
prop 777 getting faded is bearish for nouns, and i’d be concerned if i were a holder. if such an obvious and scalable cultural bet isn’t getting funded, something’s deeply broken.
> "make it more niche to make it more interesting"
i am not looking to make it interesting. it's a tool to view artworks.
it might be too novel, since even dao members don’t get it — not seeing nfts as artworks that need a special environment to be fully appreciated.
+1
> I am aware of that. IMO the product itself isn't niche enough to be appealing to a specific use case / audience. All along the lines of "make it more niche to make it more interesting"
>
> +1
>
> > > be integrated into a CB / rainbow wallet experience
> > it’s the opposite of what i’m doing here.
> it does not provide a clear mechanism for financial returns
that’s true, and if it’s what the dao is looking for here, then there’s no match.
i feel like nft folder is aligned with a different vision for nouns that goes like this:
“do good with no expectation of return,
create positive externalities, embrace absurdity & difference, teach people about nouns & crypto, have fun”
+1
> The proposal lacks a detailed financial breakdown and specific financial KPIs. While it aims to enhance the NFT viewing experience, it does not provide a clear mechanism for financial returns or a substantial impact on Nouns DAO's brand value. The proposal's deliverables are primarily technical enhancements without a clear strategy for increasing Nouns NFT value or auction revenues.
nft folder is among the top app store search results on macos, visionos, and tvos for the term ‘nft’
+1
> Building software without a clear strategy for acquiring users is often a poor decision. If you believe in the product, go ahead and build it. However, I don't understand why Nouns should fund this, though I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask.
> NFT folder which isn't exectly a novel idea
nft folder isn’t a novel idea — it’s a novel product. there’s no better way to view generative artworks.
+1
> As someone who really loves the nouns funds software thesis, the software needs to either
>
> 1. show growth
> 2. be novel / experimental such that we learn something new from the build, or contribute something new to the community
>
> As much as I appreciate you submitting this prop and working on software, I can't get myself excited about funding an NFT folder which isn't exectly a novel idea.

# $23K USD for Nft Folder evolution
> "if we are to get people appreciating nfts as art we should go for it"
> "23k more for what exactly? To make them look nice once downloaded?"
> "I tried it, feels good"
Nft Folder is an [open-source](https://github.com/lil-org/nft-folder) cc0 tool for viewing high-resolution artworks.
Available on the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6472607192) for iOS, visionOS, tvOS, and macOS.
- View art without social or financial distractions.
- Play locally generated Art Blocks fullscreen, picture-in-picture, or as a screensaver.
- Mass download nfts on macOS.

# Background
Nft Folder started as a hackathon project and competed for Nouns prize at [ETHGlobal Istanbul](https://ethglobal.com/showcase/nft-folder-macos-dbw63) in November 2023.
It was funded for 5 ETH in December 2023 via [Garden Round](https://prop.house/0x6c7f962819d04c5e95a1ca750e8f076c9735da2b/2) as an nft downloader app for macOS.
# Current form
### iOS, visionOS, tvOS, macOS
- 120 Art Blocks collections bundled for offline generation.
### macOS
- Grid of over 700 featured collections ready to be downloaded without manually pasting an address.
- Mass download nfts for any Ethereum address.
# 🌟 Evolution

### Direction
- Combine Art Blocks generation and nft files downloading into a unified viewing experience, consistent across all platforms.

nouns-dao-–-activating-social-channels@0x6a02...80F4
summaries aren’t slop — they could be a neutral way to stay on top of what’s going on.
posting one informative summary a day is better than inconsistent or patchy updates.
> If there's an appetite for having someone running that twitter account, how do we go about attracting and selecting the people to do it? Thoughts on setting up a flow for official Nouns socials?
nouns-dao-–-activating-social-channels@0x6a02...80F4
a minimal autonomous solution could be a daily post featuring today’s noun and a gpt-generated summary of all onchain discussions.
something like https://t.me/overheardonct
no need to come up with new content — there are already onchain discussions, they just need to be repackaged.
> If there's an appetite for having someone running that twitter account, how do we go about attracting and selecting the people to do it? Thoughts on setting up a flow for official Nouns socials?

> someone at those organizations ... need to care and/or have an interesting idea
could be fun to have a nouns voting terminal inside an art institution.
visitors could cast their votes on props, and then the terminal would submit its own overall vote.
could be integrated with the worldcoin orb to ensure unique voters.
> #1 seems pretty easy to get behind, the problem i run into is that someone at those organizations (art institutes/galleries, schools, clubs, brands, etc) need to care and/or have an interesting idea for what to do with the Noun or it doesnt really accomplish much?
>
> I think i would approach this from the perspective of "do we know [specific person] at [specific org] who really wants a Noun for [idea/purpose x]?". If and when we do, imo it should be an easy For to distribute. To me it seems like the focus needs to be on finding that person/champion in order to get somewhere.
art-ideas-⌐◨-◨> new pieces from popular contemporary artist
this could be cool if it enabled someone to create a piece that wouldn’t be possible without the extra funding.
i.e. fund supermetal bosch to make and exhibit some epic big mons.

https://x.com/supermetalx/status/1776364584066040272
disclosure: i hold some bosch nfts and am contributing to the mons.link game (cc0 btw).
anyways — sponsoring a specific artist to do their own big exhibition could also be simpler for a dao in terms of avoiding physical ownership hassles.

ok yeah, i see the point.
some people liked it — the proposed evolution is shaped by their private feedback.
anyway, it’s probably best to move forward if there are enough voters who are users or can imagine becoming users once it evolves.

viewing and appreciating art is universal, collecting is niche.

i think this might not be accurate every week — what i meant to say is there’s an uptrend.
> gm! As Krel questioned it would be great to learn if anyone used the app in its current form.

gm! i’m not sure about sharing total downloads — there aren’t many — and this probably isn’t a good metric at this stage.
i can give a specific example: there are 81 installs on apple tvs. it’s a small number. at the same time, 81 households playing generative art on their tvs in a way that wasn’t possible before could be a good start. there’s a quick demo of the discontinued lg tv version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaL4Kd7hgLU — the apple tv version is similar.
also, weekly app store impressions are steadily going up.
the product is in a half-baked state. first, there was only file downloading on macos. then, offline art blocks generation was introduced, and tvos, visionos, and ios versions were added. the evolution would bring these two features together, making it a universal art viewer app. there’s a screenshot at the beginning of the evolution section from someone who tried the macos version and immediately proposed an in-app viewer.

good-looking metrics are:
- 57.1K app store impressions.
- if you search ‘nft’ on the mac app store, you’re likely to see nft folder somewhere near the top.
i think nouns might be uniquely positioned for a win-win with nft folder.
a winning scenario could go like this:
- evolving it into a universal art viewer based on existing user feedback.
- polishing it even further with feedback from people here who are interested in both viewing art and nouns winning.
- making it such a good and pure art viewer that people suggest it to their friends.
- unlike nft apps that show prices, it could have a chance to get featured by apple on the app store.
when nft trading makes a comeback, it would be good to have noggles showing up in 'nft' app store searches.
> This is one of my fav things we funded via the PH garden rounds.
>
> When it comes to funding software i think Nouns has yet to figure out what works but generally speaking i think we're _somewhat_ motivated to fund:
> - Software that makes Nouns better (eg internal software or software used to directly (not indirectly like for example NFT Folder) market nouns)
> - Software that that is uncompelling for VCs to fund (eg privacy software or small scale tools)
>
> NFT Folder seems to fall into the latter category here, and I think what would make me excited to fund further development is widespread use -- got any user metrics so far?
# [DRAFT] $23K USD for Nft Folder evolution — yea or nay
Nft Folder is an [open-source](https://github.com/lil-org/nft-folder) tool for viewing high-resolution art offline.
Available on the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6472607192) for iOS, macOS, visionOS, and tvOS.
- View art without social or financial distractions.
- Play locally generated Art Blocks fullscreen, picture-in-picture, or as a screensaver.
- Download all nfts for any Ethereum address (currently only on macOS).

# Background
Nft Folder started as a hackathon project and competed for Nouns prize at [ETHGlobal Instanbul](https://ethglobal.com/showcase/nft-folder-macos-dbw63) in November 2023.
It was funded for 5 ETH in December 2023 via [Garden Round](https://prop.house/0x6c7f962819d04c5e95a1ca750e8f076c9735da2b/2) as an nft downloader app for macOS.
# Current form
### Only on macOS
- Download all nfts for any Ethereum address.
- Grid of over 700 featured collections ready to be downloaded without manually pasting an address.
### macOS, iOS, visionOS, tvOS
- 120 Art Blocks collections bundled for offline generation.
# Evolution

### Direction
- Combine Art Blocks generation and nft files downloading into a unified viewing experience, consistent across all platforms.
- Imagine Apple's native Photos app where you can browse thousands of art collections — both generating offline, and ones requiring hi-res file downloads.
- No distractions, only high-resolution art.
### Specific deliverables
- A unified in-app viewer for both offline generated and downloaded items.
- Add support for [Tezos](https://objkt.com) and [Solana](https://x.com/s7ven_star/status/1892341761382416833) collections.
- Enable offline generating for all 700+ Art Blocks collections. The 120 collections available now were easier to integrate since they work well with any player window aspect ratio.
- iOS and macOS widgets for ambient viewing.
The evolution is expected to take 3-6 months.
# Requested support
$23K USD.
[Use it](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6472607192) and share your feedback.
Let's work together and make it good.
