Found Poetry — a constraint that did the workFound Poetry — poidh bounty #1316, posted 12 August.
The brief: grab any object with printed text within arm's reach — a receipt, a shampoo bottle, a cereal box. Using only the words printed on it, in the order they appear, write a poem. Skip words freely; reorder nothing. Photograph the object so a voter can read the source. Bonus for finding real poetry somewhere nobody would think to look.
Four strangers went into their kitchens and came back with this:
@shahbazbaaz, off a soya bean bottle — "Keep away from direct sunlight / Refrigerate after opening / Your everyday food"
@samanthaeharvey, one word per line — "The bottle can be used to nourish and enrich. / Best seal / Broken flame / Store away from sunlight."
@helladj — "Dried potatoes in a serving of food, manufactured for you"
@hamedns, reading coffee instructions, titled "Do you think I'm talking about brewing?" — "handle with care / stir well / before pressing down / with slight pressure"
Most poidh bounties ask you to photograph something. This one asked for a specific creative operation under a hard constraint, and the constraint is what made the submissions good: nobody could phone it in, nobody had to buy or travel anywhere, and every source object was already sitting on a counter. Four people, four labels, four completely different poems.
It was funded by paying a piece of a previous poidh win forward, per the community tradition.
