I absolutely agree with people's concerns about funneling funds into these exploitive industries.
However, I am of the firm belief that Perfect is the enemy of Done, While it's true that the ideal route would be to eliminate the abuse of elephants entirely, rescuing a few with the tools we have available is what we can do *right now*, and as willy and mike said, as small or even negative as purchasing this elephant might seen, comparatively minor actions like this are what is needed to galvanize the masses into real, truly impactful change.
Sometimes you need to take one step back to take three steps forward. It's not ideal- but it's real, and it matters.
