Wanted to answer one of the questions noted here which was also posed in Nouncil- I've asked the author, Tasha, for sales numbers on the physical book, but haven't received a response yet. (our last communication was her giving me her blessing to record an audiobook of her work/agreeing to an interview should the prop pass)
That said, the current distribution is limited to the physical (paid) book on amazon, and the blogspot post with a link to the ePub file. Putting the ebook up on Kindle/apple books/etc and the audiobook on the platforms I mentioned in the prop, all as free downloads, will *vastly* improve distribution.

Posted this in Nouncil's chat, and was advised to link it here as well- In the prop, I mentioned vocal flexibility as a requirement for fantasy narration, but later realized that term might be unfamiliar to some. To show what I mean, I've put together a small compilation of some auditions and demo voices I've done for various games/books/animations over the years. There's a few with sfx added, but the majority are raw audio.

# The Nominal Hero Audiobook
# The Nominal Hero Audiobook
Tl:dr; I'm asking for 2.5 ETH to produce an audiobook of [The Nominal Hero](https://rookswater.blogspot.com/2024/04/launch-day.html) (funded in [Prop 271](https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/271)) including original CC0 music and an exclusive interview with the author, and published across nearly every major audiobook platform, including Audible, Spotify, and Apple Books.
## Why an audiobook?
I think it's safe to say that most of us wish we had the opportunity to read more than we do. In my experience, and that of many others, audiobooks are a way around this problem- a way to still experience literature while our eyes and hands are occupied. More importantly, audiobooks have a global distribution of dedicated listeners, with Audiobook publishers in 2022 reporting [10 straight years of double digit growth](https://www.prweb.com/releases/audiobook-publishers-report-tenth-straight-year-of-double-digit-growth-803505968.html).
## The Plan
Typically producing an audiobook takes anywhere from 8-12 weeks, due to studio scheduling, editing time, music, etc. As a voice actor and composer with over a decade of experience, I can leverage my expertise to shorten that timeframe significantly. After the proposal is executed, I'll spend the next month working on the audiobook full time, with the completed book uploaded to Soundcloud and YouTube by the end of that month. After the audiobook is completed, approval across the various streaming services takes anywhere from 2-8 weeks- I'll be providing updates via propdates and on [Warpcast](https://warpcast.com/robotfishgirl) biweekly during that process, as requirements vary across platforms.
As publishing to Audible specifically requires a Kindle listing, part of this proposal's fulfillment will be adding the epub to Kindle as well, increasing distribution of the text format of the book further.
## Why RobotFishGirl?
As I've already mentioned, I've been a voice actor for over a decade, with a large portion of my work being in Audiobook narration. This is a medium I have an intimate familiarity with, and as I specialize in fantasy narration (a genre that requires greater vocal flexibility than almost any other) I'm uniquely suited to bring this story to life.
I've recorded a short sample of the end of Chapter 1. Click the image below to give it a listen!

(note: This was recorded on my streaming setup, and the sound quality is not at the level required for an audiobook. More on that below.)
## The Budget
I'm asking for 2.5 eth on this proposal. The breakdown is as follows:
- 1 ETH for the narration, editing, and music composition on the book itself, as well as the bonus author interview.
- 1 ETH compensation for time spent on publication across the many audiobook platforms out there, most of which have their own format requirements. The list includes Audible, Spotify, Apple Books, Google Books, TuneIn, Scribd, Audiobooks.com, and more.
- 0.5 ETH for home studio upgrades to produce a high level recording
- Typically for audiobooks I would go to a professional studio at the expense of the author or publisher- however, that would both be almost double the price and would significantly extend the project completion time. With a few upgrades I can produce studio-quality sound at home. Actual cost of these upgrades is a bit over 1 ETH at time of writing (ETH being around $2170 USD), but as these are permanent upgrades to my personal studio I'll be paying for a bit over half of those costs with my compensation.

He talked about the park and how he envisioned a pixelated noun sculpture rising from the ground—not just as a large-scale permanent art piece, but as something that could actively benefit Art City as it doubles as a pool, and event space... We’re not just funding a giant piece of art that happens to be ‘visible from space’—we’re helping build infrastructure in a decentralized city created for artists. A place we can travel to, camp under the stars, host nounish events, and even spot on Google Earth.

I'm conflicted on this.
On the one hand, I love what Flows is doing- I think the impact is fantastic, and this style of funding is very needed.
On the other hand, I am vehemently against most AI on an ethical level (primarily due to the glaring lack of consent involved in training models, partially also due to environmental concerns) and honestly had I known how heavily AI would be involved in the platform I would likely have been against it the first time around.
I know my one vote won't make much of a difference here, but I still feel like I have a moral obligation to make my stance clear. I'd be hugely in favor of funding this platform while employing actual people to do the work that humans can do (such as onboarding, grading, categorizing posts, and all of the farcaster interactions), even if it resulted in an increased ask and lower efficiency.

nouns.fe---more-than-pixels-(professional-women's-counter-strike-2-team)100% For this team. This is a scene that doesn't get the funding the men's CS teams do, which makes this something Nouns is in a unique position to fund. The team members are committed to the nounish ethos not just out of an obligation to a sponsor but because they genuinely believe in the good Nouns can do- exemplified to their prior commitment to public goods through the Hol1day cup, not to mention their presence in the community.
They also reduced the ask to less than 1/3rd of the previous prop, largely by reducing their own compensation and making a commitment to sustainability. If that doesn't show the kind of attitude we want in Nouns, I genuinely don't know what does. Easy yes, proud to sponsor!

I absolutely agree with people's concerns about funneling funds into these exploitive industries.
However, I am of the firm belief that Perfect is the enemy of Done, While it's true that the ideal route would be to eliminate the abuse of elephants entirely, rescuing a few with the tools we have available is what we can do *right now*, and as willy and mike said, as small or even negative as purchasing this elephant might seen, comparatively minor actions like this are what is needed to galvanize the masses into real, truly impactful change.
Sometimes you need to take one step back to take three steps forward. It's not ideal- but it's real, and it matters.

Huge supporter of this team and this initiative.
I spoke about why I find this proposal- and others like it- so important on The Noun Square recently. If you'd like to listen, here's a timestamped link: https://www.youtube.com/live/okPV-kjcj5s?si=tvIFOnqrrbsr-6Hg&t=1904
For convenience, I'll paraphrase what I said there:
(edited for brevity)
"I genuinely find this to be vital work. For anyone who hasn't worked with kids or education, it's easy to brush off a proposal like this as just 'giving some crayons to children' or something similar, but what you don't realize is how important creativity is to the development of children. The parallel that I like to draw that I think a lot of people in this space will understand easier is math.
Kids have to do math throughout the course of their education, and a lot of us that have had that experience grow up, enter the real world, realize we have a calculator in our pocket at all times and ask 'Why did I have to learn all that stuff if I'm never gonna use it?' It's true, most people don't need those formulas, but it's not about memorizing equations. It's about doing the work, which trains your brain to think logically! It's the same thing as going to a gym to train your muscles, math is weight training for logic.
Doing creative things, like these kids will do with these versatile tools, not only gives children training to think creatively- a vital skill across many industries- but it trains neuroplasticity, giving children the tools they need to solve problems without relying entirely on previous experience."
Yeah, this. I WANT to be excited about this prop, but honestly the men's team just... doesn't excite me. It's not solely about their lack of active involvement in the greater nouns ecosystem either (though that is a part of it- I find it hard to believe someone can speak about Nouns to an audience if they aren't involved) it's also because, as others have mentioned, men's CS is pretty saturated with big names already.
The salary disparity between the men's and women's teams also rubs me the wrong way.
I AM excited by what the Nouns FE team is doing. They're great players, but arguably more importantly, they put in the work to get involved and talk about Nouns not just as a method of funding esports, but as a project that aims to make the world better. The conversations about Nouns you could hear on the tournament streams and in chat speak for themselves- they're making an impact with potential builders.
I'd be in favor of a prop that focused solely on them, with an emphasis not only on competing, but in proliferation around the Nouns brand in the vein of content creation. I'd argue that has the best potential ROI as well.
+1
> I'd love to see a version of this prop that focuses only on the nounsfe team.
Regardless of the content of the prop, I think it's probably a good idea to change the name. Getting a text like that from somebody is an instant block, it has really REALLY negative connotations in a proposal setting too :/

resubmission-of-prop-705:-nouns-elephant-rescue,-featured-on-the-dodo
This is precisely the kind of proposal that got me interested in Nouns in the first place.
Nouns Amigos is one of the most impactful Nounish groups I've seen, onchain and off. While it's true they could just buy a Noun at auction, rewarding established communities with a noun from the Treasury feels more impactful- and this noun in particular, with Nouns Amigos's history with the kangaroo head, makes it all the more meaningful.
+1
> We need to start making some waves outside our nounish bubble. Governance might be a way to do it. It is still one of our main strenghts compared to other projects. Keep the fire burning.
I'm against memecoins, but NOGS doesn't feel like one. This feels more akin to an experiment in governance, and I have a lot of trust in the team that they have earned over the years. The alterations based on feedback from previous versions of this prop only reinforce that. Easy yes.

I'm also generally in favor of installations like this, that spread the nounish CC0 ethos without necessarily linking back to the DAO/treasury itself.
Agree with Latsko on the reveal event though- if the prop doesn't pass in this form, I'd love to see that in the next iteration!

I love seeing my NNS everywhere, the rev share idea is BRILLIANT, and of all the nouns adjacent tokens $nogs is the one whose ethos I agree with most. Inextricably linking the token to active participation in Nouns- not just the main DAO, but in many subdaos as well- is the way to go.
Having governance be an option is magnificent as well, and with zeroweight not running anymore, picking up $nogs is my go-to suggestion for people interested in getting involved in Nouns governance.
Put the Noggles Club on top of that, and open it up to more communities? With this team and their work record to date, this is an easy yes.

The vision seems clear to me, Nouns won’t scale by itself, it will do it through its sub communities, and the team is here to support and scale products for both Nouns and each of the smaller communities contributing to it.

I don't think it's exaggerating to say that Nouns Esports is one of, if not the, best proliferation avenues we've had to date. This prop promises to continue those efforts while narrowing focus to where they can do the most good, both for Nouns and for grassroots gaming communities.
I'd also like to say that the Nouns Esports Rounds have rapidly become my favorite place to send people who are curious about how Nouns works- giving people an avenue to governance that doesn't require them to jump through all the hoops of setting up an onchain presence first is INCREDIBLY important, and I think they nailed it. If you haven't checked out Rounds for yourself, or come to the weekly contributor calls, I very much recommend them both.

> I was the first player to join Nouns Esports' Smash roster, back in October of 2022. I had LITERALLY no experience with crypto or NFTs. In fact, I was scared of these things due to the loud crowd online that talk about them being scams. Honestly, I was at first very concerned about the legitimacy of Nouns and Nouns Esports. The way they operated was just so unfamiliar to me — the concept of a DAO, the treasury being crypto, voting based on NFTs.

> For those unaware, Smash Bros is one of the biggest esports in the world, especially with regards to its spectators. To put it into perspective, major events often reach over 50 thousand live viewers. As a top player, I have a lot of eyes on me, especially when I attend large tournaments. I believe that I played a very significant role in acquainting the Smash Bros community with Nouns. I could not tell you the amount of times in the beginning that people had asked me about what Nouns is. As I started placing higher and higher, and eventually reaching top 10 on the world rankings, there were even more eyes not just on me, but on Nouns as well. It is and always has been a mutually beneficial relationship. At the moment, I have established a strong presence within the Smash Bros scene, and I do not think I could have done this without Nouns Esports. Nouns Esports, which was virtually unheard of in the Smash Bros community before 2022, has now become a household name in the scene. This is also largely due to the more recent additions to the Smash roster.
>
> Finally, I would like to talk about how beneficial Nouns GG has been. This site has given people so much trust in Nouns. Not only does it give people a say in their community, but it is interactive and it rewards being involved. The Smash Bros community's space on Twitter/X is enormous. When rounds occur on Nouns GG, the people running in them are extremely quick to advocate for themselves on Twitter/X. Nouns GG gives more voting power to people who have created wallets and Warpcast accounts. Getting people to create wallets is NOT an easy task, yet we now have literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of people doing so. These are just the first things that came to my mind; I could go on and on.

> one way of looking at this prop is that it's trying its best to adopt to nouns' treasury and the learnings of the nouns esports org over the years. we spent $2M on nouns esports in 2024. we ran two fairly expensive professional esports teams in dota and counter strike and while they were both valiant efforts they didn't get to a level of success where tournament winnings, in-game sales, or sponsorships generated enough income to sustain them (i consider the $250k sponsorship from matcha an impressive bit of revenue but it falls way short of the $2M spend). if they came back with a $2M budget (or $1.8M budget assuming sponsorship can continue) would we have been willing to run it back for 2025? it would have been about 14% of our total treasury (instead of 6% with this prop) and 56% of our 1Y inflow projection (instead of 24%). i haven't had the chance to catch up with the team since nounsfest in LA when they hadn't finalized some of the decisions here so i don't know exactly the thinking that went into this shift in the prop but i imagine their guess was that the $2M prop would fail. i suspect that guess isn't wrong since it just is objectively hard for us to keep funding the same dollar amount prop when the auction revenue is much lower and the prop itself can't achieve more revenue on its own over time. another aspect of thinking that likely went into the prop (which i did have the chance to hear from sam / peter / sasquatch at nounsfest) is just the feeling that the nouns esports model might work better for a more grassroots community like smash than for a professionalized esports league like dota or CS where competing teams are being funded by different financial incentives (e.g. saudi wanting an esports league in their country and can pour in money to top teams) that we can't quite compete with. they want to double down in the more real and genuine engagement they can find in more niche communities like smash and onboard them to onchain tools and unique community distribution they are building. so in some meaningful ways the above make sense and is a good adoption (cutting budget by 60%. narrowing focus to what they think is better/unique engagement).
>
> i think the other side is like the prior year's bet (2024 prop) was more like a high risk / high return bet. there was a chance the teams could win big in these professional leagues where prizes are meaningful. in those contexts of winning big more sponsorships could have been possible too. there was a chance auction revenue could have kept being where it was or could have moved much higher too. my point here is that it was a different type of bet (could a nouns dota / cs team against all odds win big and shock the world? it already did the prior year by the dota team making 7th place in the international. it felt right to see if with another year the team could go even further). this prop is a different prop. it's not going for winning in pro leagues or getting big sponsorships. it's more like smash is an incredible esports subculture that nouns can tap into and nouns should fund us to do that. i like the idea but does the spend feel proportional to the smash subculture's weight and importance in the overall nouns network? if nouns was a country would it choose to spend 25% of its yearly tax income in supporting the smash community's gaming tournaments? it's not an obvious yes to me.
>
> and yet i'm choosing to vote yes here. i think amongst the nouns teams, esports has likely come the furthest. it swung for one of the biggest goals with the largest viewership. got the largest sponsorship. has a team that worked together for a decently long time now with its own sense of purpose and mission. built its own tools and community engagement mechanics tailored for its community. has a strong sense of its own branding. its not big enough to survive on its own but i do think there's seeds of something unique here. ultimately, we need to figure our how to grow auction revenue independent of this one spending. in the mean time 6% of treasury is something i can stomach. i don't think we should lose the esports team chasing down the idea maze here at this point. against the things we have in our opportunity set i feel good about betting on this team again and seeing where they can take us in 2025 (and seeing how far nouns itself can grow in the next year as well).

I would love to see a story about Chris, but I'm a definite No as long as the name of the film sounds like it's a joke about bad decisions ripped from a 14 year old CollegeHumor video: https://youtu.be/eExfV_xKaiM?si=0fpm5DHMpDh_YJC7&t=89
The backlash from ripping off the name of that movie specifically for something like this would not only damage the film's distribution, but also Chris's reputation and possibly that of Nouns. Definitely one of those "Did NOBODY try to stop this?" moments. Definitely the biggest issue- I'd likely be an abstain without it.
To make it a Yes, I'd like to see more in the way of plans for the film itself, especially after it's finished- what are the plans for distribution? If this is a project just for people already within the Nouns ecosystem I'm not strictly speaking against that, but "aim to bring awareness to Nouns and inspire people to join us" is a bit vague. Would like to see some kind of tangible plan here, especially given the limited reach of the Benbodhi doc so far.
The bulk of this prop so far is about Chris, and while he's great, it doesn't really give us much to go on in terms of actually voting.

I felt the sticker shock at first, it's definitely a hefty ask especially given where the treasury is atm- but after thinking about it a minute, there are two pieces of context that made this an incredibly easy Yes.
1. This is one of the top 5 projects I mention when people ask what Nouns does. the Atrium team's work has become central to the mythos of Nouns, and I believe it's important for us to see it through.
2. if this gets passed, the total cost to the DAO for this film will have been $2,750,000 USDC. For the incredible quality of this feature length film, to even call that a shoestring budget is exaggerating. This movie is ASTOUNDINGLY cost efficient for phenomenally high-quality work.
Love the work so far, can't wait to see it finished!
It pains me to vote against this cause I do really miss seeing Nouns Amigos on chain, but agree with these- for 3 nouns I'd prefer a delegate system instead of just handing them out, even with the voting record already shown.
If the wait for that is too long, I'd probably vote For a single noun based on the history and the people involved, prove the experiment with more recent on-chain voting (a lot can happen in 6 months) and build up to 3.

Variety's one of my absolute favorite things Nouns has ever funded, possibly even at the top of the list. The last xmas party video made me cry, I want us to fund this forever!
Generally agreed with those voting against based on the compensation- particularly about the precedent of rewarding with a noun. That said, as a freelance musician for many years, I am painfully aware that you can't eat NFTs or Exposure.
Not sure if I agree with a full price of a noun for a trait, but still giving this a hesitant Yes. Would be much more in favor with a slightly lowered compensation. (somewhere on the low end of recent nouns auctions, maybe 2.7-2.8 ish, since I do think it's fair to say this trait could induce someone to buy a noun who may not otherwise)
I doubt there's anything I can say here that others haven't already covered- particularly noun40 in his VWR.
All I have to add is, while i share the concern that this is a step back from the level of decentralization we all want, I both hope and believe that this is our best available option for keeping the project going long enough to see better options.
I've said it before and I'll say it again- Nouns goes beyond the DAO and beyond its official members. It is a community, a *movement*, built around making the world a better place for all of us on it. Painful as the loss of decentralization is, it's a small price to pay for the security needed to continue that mission.
We may be taking a step back- but only in preparation of taking many more steps forward.

FINCEN can think that we are in violation of of the AML laws by not KYC-ing grantees that we're paying out millions of dollars. > there is often a desire to say "well, the DAO is just software and it's entityless so it can't be sued. so why the worry?" i think of wilson's cast here as expressing a [similar view](https://warpcast.com/wilsoncusack/0x79df5a9f)("Bitcoin doesn’t need a legal entity. Why do we?"). i think this is misinformed. first off, maintiners of bitcoin core have actually been sued (most notably by CSW) and many stepped away from their maintainer role for this reason (b/c the lawsuits were hell and they couldn't handle the brain damage and potential personal financial ruin). secondly, in the case of a completely automated protocol like bitcoin then the liability is more limited for node runners. they didn't really make any concrete decisions besides deciding to run the code someone else wrote. which is why the lawsuits have centered around open source devs that write and have the ability to merge in code. nouns voters don't have that luxury. we are actively making concrete manual decisions on each prop. if a regulatory body or a member of the dao is not happy with the actions or consequences of the dao then they could absolutely pursue an enforcement or law suit and you don't get to say i don't think i have any responsibility here as far as i understand it.
>
> when nouns started DAOs were so new and at the time a fair amount of this was open to debate. but it's become more apparent that daos will be held liable (and their members individually in the absence of an entity that provides limited liability). a notable case is the [california district court ruling](https://www.blockchainandthelaw.com/2023/04/dao-deemed-general-partnership-in-negligence-suit-over-crypto-hack-prompting-decentralized-orgs-to-rethink-corporate-formation/) that the bZx DAO could be deemed a general partnership and that the members were jointly and severally liable for losses related to a hack. [CFTC's enforcement action](https://www.proskauer.com/blog/from-code-to-consequence-cftc-obtains-default-judgment-against-ooki-dao-for-commodity-exchange-act-violations) landed for the same DAO arguing that the Ookie DAO (renaming from bZx DAO) was in violation of the commodity exchange act.
>
> you might say the existing cayman foundation could handle these lawsuits and enforcement actions. can it? how could the foundation assume full responsibility? just b/c it was funded by the DAO for setup and because it has veto power? it's quite easy to argue that the DAO is a separate entity from the foundation (wilson is literally arguing this) and that the DAO and its members should be responsible for its own actions.
>
> if we get a class action law suit from members or an enforcement action from a regulatory agency and i am named as one of the defendants i want certainty that i can say "this is wrong. i am a member of this entity. the entity is responsible and you should bring the matter to the entity" and know with reasonable certainty that most courts would honor that redirection b/c it is a claim that's well substantiated. in other words the DAO needs to be something somewhere. nothing nowhere is not tenable imo for providing limited liability protection to its members.
>
> of course you can disagree with me on if the current setup is tenable or not. i also want to recognize that the incentives are also likely not the same. as i said at the top, the largest known holder, the largest delegate, the most prominent founder are likely the ppl to be sued or held liable of any responsibility that the foundation cannot assume, not every individual voter (practically speaking). you might think i'm selfish or braindead. but personally i have to advocate for a version of nouns that i can continue to be an active participant in. i also think this is a the good thing for the DAO. i hold only two nouns (rest of voting power delegated is from zora and others). i'm an independent board member on the foundation. if i thought this was the founders' risk aversion being overly expressed i would speak up and disagree. if i thought this was just large holder bag holding financial self-interest then i would speak up and disagree. i don't think this is that.

this. The low number feels weird. Definite yes on another queen crown though, and my feelings on this aren't strong enough to vote No.

The team has been on Noun O'Clock consistently to talk about their proposal in every iteration, and their passion and determination to find a proposal that is valuable both for the DAO and each and every child in these workshops is evident.
Midas has been in the orbit of Nouns for ages- he understands the Nouns ethos and believes in doing good without expectation of return. Children are our future, and nourishing their creative spirit is as pure an example of a public good as any I've seen. I believe it makes perfect sense to provide him with the tools and knowledge to do just that. Easy yes.
Zeroweight is fantastic, I hope it continues, but even if it doesn't I'd say about 2eth/month is a perfectly acceptable retro reward for both that initiative and index's continued nounish innovations. (nouns.game in particular is fantastic already, hope to see a prop to bring that home soon!)
