thebeginningisnigh,
I'm pleasantly surprised to hear from you and to learn that you're doing...well, fairly well, I mean as much as well permits. It's mostly always between the trembling fridge and the air-conditioned nightmare I'm afraid.
And as about the ear, it's an interesting analogy you make by way of Van Gogh, which somehow helps me prolong my attempts at not giving in to despair at the current climate. Art is the obvious succour, always. But if I were to extend the ear analogy, I'm afraid the world-at-large has, long ago, been shot in both ears, which has led to this tone-deafness in our society. The eyes, well, let's keep them for another day. The mouth, too. When Van Gogh cut off his own ear; what the world perceives as madness, I perceived as his desperate attempt to eliminate an instrument that was responsible for him hearing things he didn't agree with or were in contradiction with his artistic principles. And those words reportedly came from his friend, Gauguin. The conviction in his own intellect led him to self-harm or, perhaps, to him, a removal of a vestigial organ. But then Van Gogh is now a poster boy of the artist's self-doubt and incomprehensible genius. Yet in spontaneity, he, I feel, valued his perception of the world, art, processes, and it is eventually a moral process and stand, steadfastly. Such conviction is "unheard" of in this day and age. Because art as moral code, an ethic of living, has defiantly been replaced by tyrannical regressions. Each day we spend less and less time looking at the potato eaters than we do of videos of a failed assassination, inspecting it as if it were a great work of art, which to the current culture it is, and even worse it a source of moral code, of knee-jerk human regression. It's interesting to note that the NPC meme is something the larger crypto community both embraces and also uses as ammunition against a subsection of people. But in both cases, I'm afraid, it's a projection, an insecure bias. You're in fact, whether you mask it in irony or projection, the NPC you despise. But because the concept of money or value systems have been morphed so drastically, moral codes are deployed a dime a dozen daily onchain and because it translates into material abundance, it is the ONLY code worth pursuing. Other forms of bankruptcy can be easily shadowed. I m aware that there have been already too many "I'm afraids" in my message. I just noticed them. It's also very interesting to see an otherwise apolitical, spineless community and ecosystem suddenly become so vocally political. But these are a majority of people who might think, and forgive my presumptuousness here, that the battle of Algiers was a campaign against sexually transmitted diseases. It's another matter that the silence of the people in positions of cultural power in the ecosystem has been infuriating and nauseating. An ecosystem whose ethos was built on anti-establishment and as response to the exploitative politics of institutions, governments, policy makers, and lobbies, but has been mostly apolitical and conspicuously silent towards larger geopolitical events ever since, or have spoken of it only in relation to the market - now they're scrambling for a copy of the Declaration of Independence. God Bless America indeed. If you really want to make america great again then you have to look closely at its history, and it's a nation with one of the shortest histories and no time was wasted to make it one built on plunder and displacement of peoples, among other things. So it's mostly making america late and bait again, late to owning up to its infantile ways and bait to it own hook as a hoarder of resources. They got all the buttons but they all suffer from outer and inner carpal tunnel. Fascism and a basket of bread until we are all dead.
I am taking, lately, solace in art and in Van Gogh's ear then, or the lack of it. Trying to hold steadfast in this clusterfuck and travesty. They want you to despair, it's a way of neutralizing you. Camus knew this long ago. I'm following. Through.
You be well.
Soon.
