Mr. FB,
I hope YOU are well and in good health. In times like this we could use some words of wisdom or meanderings. What say you good sir?
I’m still hanging around, hope you are too.
Cheers (DH)
What, you, and by you I mean the universal you, no one in particular, clearly deserve is the unholy exit. And it will be granted to you. My foray back into this a year ago or so ago was marked by hideous hope, despite my consistent cynism and each thing signalled and warned about through the past year now a reality. I rather be schizophrenic and paranoid than right about things, but I'm not allowed that mercy. Time for you all to set up stations outside the white house lawns with your decentralized white monsters and donuts or hum the irony of World Liberty Financial as you take your golden shower. No offense, this is how it was meant to be (in paranoia), but as stated before, it gives me no pleasure to be right about it all. Enjoy.
Soon.
No laughing matter. Full circle. What has been trying to be hinted at her for nearly a year. The true meaning of institution and being institulization at critical mass. The long line to the sanotoriums reaching till heaven's slushy gate.
As in: After comus attacked his neighbour, unprovoked, he was forced to be institutionalized.
As in: Who is going to decentralize decentralization now? Who is going to Satoshi and Hal Finney us now from Satoshi and Hal finney's illegitimate herds. Even artificial intelligences are embarassed for real intelligence. Now that you've been adopted and coopted after years and years of trojan infiltration. Signed from the capital, by the glorious leaders of your free world that you elected so they could offically slaughter you in your own slaughterhouse. Donald Trump is your therapist then, one way or another, but who's going to pay for your session?
Isn't this what you wanted? Gives one no pride to say this now. It's grief of the ages, foretold a long time ago, occuring at incomprehsible speed now, and I can only respond by slowly smothering silence with the hollow pillow of hope as it sleeps.
"What do they say each new morning
in heaven? They would
weary of one always
singing how green the
green trees are in
Paradise.
Surely it would seem convention
and affection
to rejoice every time
Helen went by, since
she would have gone
daily by.
What can I say then if each time
your whiteness glimmers
and fashions in that dark?
If each time your voice
opens so near
in that dark
new? What can I say each morning
after that you will
believe? But there is this
stubborn provincial
singing in me
oh each time."
Dear anon,
I don't understand the first part of your message, the first few sentences, to be specific. A decent chunk of Firstbase has been made available to be used for expanding what Firstbase could mean, do, function as - beyond my human measure and presence here onchain. Have you tried it? All thanks to Sal, of course. Although I haven't heard much beyond that regarding its activities and what more can be done or is being "worked" on. I'm rather personally excited about what the year brings.
"How has the current market (away from onchain tokens) affected you?"
In what sense? I have selective exposure to the market (in terms of the onchain market), and in a generic way the market hasn't affected me in any specific way otherwise, maybe it has taught me a thing or two more about the human condition, things that should be obvious to most adults by now, or even children, nothing new. Or in any case I will realize things much later or maybe never. It has probably elevated my baking skills to prophetic levels, in the sense anything baked by me and consumed by anyone will result in them becoming the best variant of a false god, or think of the implications of what a "false god" is, and its opposites, but there is no way for me to prove this. It may dramatically increase one's sense of kinship with wolves, again there is no way for me to prove this. I think the only takeaway from all this is: I have been baking a lot. Maybe "A Miracle for Breakfast" is at work here, or its anticipation, although I detest the idea of both miracles and breakfasts. At this point, to be able to type the word "miracle" or mouth it is miracle enough for me.
What about you?
Someone did steal all my money, now that you remind me, several people have, but I'm the richer for it now. And I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one in the world, but attributing it all to Rihanna perhaps works, even in tokenized and symbolical ways. So yes, I'd agree it does sound like a decent financial investment, although currently I'm thinking of ways to convince people that my past is a great financial investment, as a leveraged bet for the future, I mean the world's future, I am willing to sell it for nothing, but in a tangible way, but nothing costs a lot, although one can argue that that's all we have, and therefore considering its abundance, it should be free. But I'm getting way too ahead of myself. First I need to find "people" to even clink a spoonful of escitalopram with me, before it can begin its long, trembling and arduous journey towards the mouth.
I need to swallow, I need to keep swallowing, and having someone to swallow with as we watch slow snow annihilate our best intentions is not a bad start.
Extreme apologies for taking this long to respond to all of these incredible and encouraging movements. Grief is the malevolent incubus/succubus sucking sap out of my secret trees. Usually all buses and tramplers are welcome, apart from much else, everything is welcome, even grief, necessary even, but every once in a while, the human and its sense of forced divination is violently exposed. And we're left holding roots of no origin, invisible, not even something we can show to another and say here: this is what's left, what i'm holding. But then it's still given, invisible roots and all, which can lead me to deduce that where there is still root, invisible or not, there is resilience, delusional or not. I remain resilient and delusional with these invisible roots. So while grief fornicates with me, I tell myself I am at least chosen for this. I am specifically chosen for this. And let me tell you, grief, in my experience is the only way to impregnate gods, if any, until they relent with your idea of how the world should be. So. Welcome.
To bring it down to scale find myself going back to Ballard and his sense of how he conflates destruction, utter annihilation, and its voyeurism with inexplicable pleasure and holiness even or its pursuit. Specifically, The Atrocity Exhibition, and later his novel Crash, which was subsequently made into a film by Cronenberg.
This is an oversimplification, however complex Ballard's explorations were.
Anyway. Thank you. I've matched you. Interesting that this could be construed as double spend, and even more interesting that the answer to why I have been nicknamed double spend is actually in the number. And Sal, I'm indebted to you for your relentless enthusiasm and support and prowess. This is truly incredible, you're building something extraordinary and I'm here in my meagre way. I look forward to hearing more.
Onward.
Grief, for now i'm the chewing gum in your endless mouth, but you'd be surprised to hear of what I've been speaking to and lives within me. I wait for you to be in mine.

Damn! Very cool. Have sent my humble contribution. Talk about cosmic timing. Will monitor progress closely. Godspeed!

Thank you. However, I'd rather have it sent to someone on the ground than my address. Sal has made the first move, not certain whether alone or with a set of people, so he would be the ideal one to handle Firstbase (the tokens), apart from much else, without implying any sort of pressure or obligation of course. I am waiting to do the same as well, when I do hear back of any further developments from him, that is.
Or when the probable dissatisfaction that may have arisen from my response subsides and we resume on the meaningful path, or the attempt at meaning.
After rereading my own response I feel that there is still such a large cognitive dissonance in general, and despite months of cognitive and actioned service, which is of course personally nourishing for me, if not for others, the implication at large seems to be still that it's not about what is being thought or said or done but who is doing them. And that it only attains significance if it's said or done by such and such person, otherwise it is valueless, both in the market and onchain. Although predictable, it furthers my belief of the larger existential queries. Which is again a stripping to the core, the within of oneself, how does one nourish it? Our own inner voice stays unnamed and guides us through our ideals and morals and objectives in life, aided by of course external and larger histories, the entire history of humanity, most of whose evolution has been spurred by anonymity, namelessness.
A line from Ashbery comes to mind:
"How many snakes and lizards shed their skins
For time to be passing on like this..."
Followed by Bishop:
"Why didn't I know enough of something?"
Cool stuff. More than happy to part with some Firstbase when this is implemented. Not sure where. I could send it to the originator address, which is yours. Will wait for a response from someone.
Very happy and excited to hear that, Sal. Let me know when we're in a position to feed it with Firstbase, for its incentivization capacities to be also tested out - as we've spoken about earlier. In its first phase I think the ability to tip micro amounts as and when certain parameters are met in a conversation or dialogue would be productive, then we scale to larger things. I trust you to manage that part exceptionally as well, and of course being the creator and conductor of this all, you'd be its first deserving grantee. By testing do you mean you've been privately using the Eliza framework and interacting with it?
Now, coming to the other part of your message. I, personally, do not see the implied connections as the "foundation of this experiment", far from it, in fact. Even if by this experiment you mean the entire experiment of Firstbase itself. Its ancestries and genealogies and past may be connected and possibly contribute to its speculative propulsion, but rather I see it as, or the way I saw it from the beginning, was it being antithetical to its connections and ancestries, a disowning of it, and not just of these specific relations but a disowning of the entire foundational structures of the larger ecosystem we're in. And of course by disowning I don't mean it in its exact aggressive connotations, it is a healthy and productive stance, a counterpoint. Now who and how the phantoms of the past or the connections decide to engage with the present Firstbase or don't is out of their own volition and at their own discretion. And I intend it to remain that way.
But now that you've given me the opportunity to wax philosophical or counterargue, though I rarely miss the chance, even if it may not be a call to opportunity, I'll go a bit into the final parts of your message, which is try and extrapolate and juxtapose these questions of yours and, as is my wont, make them analogous to singularity, before singularity, the universe, try the futile attempt of stretching cosmic flesh across an ever-expanding body - existence, which begins from our sense of it, which is merely seconds in universal time, then the existence of the universe itself. For the sake of maintaining some semblance of comprehension, I'll restrict myself to "the observable universe" and rule out the hypothesis of multiverses, which dilutes and further complicates all human notions, although if you believe in physics it is mostly confirmed: chiefly notions of belief, reality, truth, facts. We are, at best, a silhouette of verisimilitudes. And verisimilitude is where my life force lies and by extension of Firstbase. That is the irony. A wise person once told me "the point of a revolution is that it eventually ends." Being the contrarian, I disagreed. But, objectively, it is true, although no human revolution of any sort can be said to have ended, with its core values and demands met and consistently so, meaning becoming fixed, it's continual, and I'm afraid will be until the earth's revolutions end.
"Who is who, what is what, why is why...there is no way to confirm that it's so."
Confirm for whom? If it's your personal objective to essentialize that confirmation then that is your private duty I'm afraid. If a group wants to essentialize it, then it's the group's duty, nobody else's. If one were to cram the neutralizing idea of even agnosticism into this, because I feel it pertinent, and call it the agnostic paradox, which in essence means that even what agnosticism claims cannot be verified. Which simply translates to even if you claim that "as humans we cannot know whether a god or supernatural force exists" it is still only a human claiming it. It our double unknown conundrum, we can say we don't know, can never know, but even then it's us who are saying it, so we cannot even know that we don't know or can never know.
I am, in principle, enacting and trying my utmost best to mirror the universe, and my idea of verisimilitude, that is the very essence of Firstbase, through human form. Of course, as humans, things can be said to be known or be "facts", we have come pretty far. Fire will burn us, eating a poisonous berry will kill us, most generic human patterns are predictable and known etc etc, but as days go by I'm far more interested in wondering not even in what is fire or who made the fire or the flesh that'll burn when it comes into contact with it, but the extent of "proof" and what proof means in the context of being. And to whom? And increasingly I find myself leaning towards and looking for singularity, where it was one, no separateness, no proof, no life, no you, no me, no berries, no flesh, no fire, and therein lies the paradox, because they were apparently all there but contained in the singularity, intact. So every question can be said to be a sacrifice at the altar of singularity. And no number of questions are enough and that's what continues life.
The poet Marie Howe, in her poem "Singularity", comes close to this "Who is who, what is what, why is why..." of yours, and its futility yet its paradoxical necessity.
"For every atom belonging to me as good
Belongs to you. Remember?
There was no Nature. No
them. No tests
to determine if the elephant
grieves her calf or if
the coral reef feels pain."
And if you're thinking in your mind, well all this is fine, but it doesn't answer my question, which you rightfully should think for everything, then that is the answer. The answer should always be: all this doesn't answer my question. If you want to call it answer, that is.
"It's time for me though to ask the question. Who is who. What is what, Why is why. A "proof-of-life" from @AndreCronjeTech on X seems necessary to put some questions to rest. A simple "14%" tweet perhaps."
Personally, it's always time for you to ask not "the" question, but only questions, inexhaustibly. And again, necessary for whom? If it's necessary for you then it's your prerogative and responsibility to try and fulfil the necessity. Putting questions to rest is, to me, I'm afraid synonymous to a mass extinction event. We came here and put a who, what, why to everything; there was before us, but now that we're here these are the engines that continue us, and I'll never choke that engine with "a rest" which doesn't put anything to rest, instead, I argue, even attention or meditation is a form of restlessness, but at its penultimate form, because then it doesn't feel foreign anymore, it feels like one is finally the inexplicable universe. Even this is verisimilitude. It's our personal objective to negotiate with questions, whether collectively or alone. We all have our ways, I don't ask questions because I think I deserve an answer or I'm looking for an answer, I ask them because, well, there isn't one.
Contrary to what t-shirts suggest and people quote, the actual Descartes quote is not "Cogito Ergo Sum," but "Dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum."
I hope this doesn't answer your questions.
This is in response to Sal, with whom I've been corresponding offchain on a lot of matters. Over roughly the past two weeks we've been discussing various things, most of which relate to Firstbase and the larger ecosystem it exists in. Some ideas stuck, some obviously didn't. We continued our conversation in the direction of ideas that we mutually found worth exploring. We also mutually agreed at some point to shift the conversation onchain for transparency and, hopefully, the benefit of others on the ground who might be following Firstbase.
*For context, this message is the most recent response of mine in the thread of our conversation, in response to Sal's last message to me, which reads:
"Thank you that was an interesting watch. I'm going to do some testing. My question remains though, what is the point of this? Do you have a vision for why we put an agent into the world? I mean presumably we can seed it with knowledge/memory of all the things you've posted, but what then? What is its purpose, what is the goal? Feel free to detail your thoughts onchain. I will continue looking into the nuts and bolts. Life has been messy (in a good way) these past weeks so I haven't had much time to play with this."
This is my response:
"Yes, Sal, absolutely. The major point would be the possibility of an interactive system with the 'Firstbase' entity or 'character' which is offchain, automated, and instantaneous. This, i'm anticipating and hoping, exposes the onchain world to a larger audience, and also works as the most acceptable form of "marketing", if there was ever one I had in mind. I'm not repeating here my thoughts and observations on intelligence, artificial or not, a term I consider pejorative, although one can safely assume that AI doesn't operate on the strucutures of human emotions or feelings. I haven't had the time to think of a better term for it, so let's just go with parallel intelligence for now.
Assuming the bot is on a quasi-onchain platform like Farcaster, as we had discussed before, it also purposefully makes people come onchain, with a process that is as simple as making an x account, apart from the existing userbase already there.
Now here's where it gets interesting, Farcaster allows and encourages onchain experiments on its platform. Their most important and native one being something called 'Frames.' Frames suit a host of purposes, the most useful being that you can perform onchain tasks directly via the 'Frames', but the process is as simple as liking, posting, retweeting etc on x.
With Frames intergrated with the bot, hypothetically, it allows the bot to perform innumerable functions, apart from interacting with anyone who tags it or talks to it. This includes tipping users, making transactions for them via messages, someone creating an NFT collection via the bot and then allowing users to mint it via the Frame. My limited diving has shown this so of course a lot more can be done, by anyone who wants to implement something on top of it. These are blanket examples. (I am intentionally avoiding the mention or discussion of the proliferation of bots that are, by design, capable of deploying tokens).
This is where my idea of incentivization or 'utility' comes in, because the bot can reserve a portion of Firstbase for developers who want to build things on top of it, which goes beyond the mere tipping part. This is possible, again only on Farcaster, because it is chiefly for onchain participants, and it is swarmed by developers constantly building exciting stuff, and that too it is Base native, primarily.
Without commenting or being opinionated I'm sure you're aware of how a mere offer of "free" Firstbase onchain recently by someone led to a flurry of messages and activity. That interaction was trivia or trivial, but when this is done in terms of building and actual incentivization, I feel it could open up Firstbase to newer avenues and explorations. And via the bot this can be automated, meaning, it doesn't need constant human monitoring, except routine checks, as and when needed, among other minor things, assuming a flywheel kicks in, and it grows more and more autonomous.
This is all conjecture, of course, on the basis of ideas of experimentation, building, research, markets, and new vistas. Experimentation being the key operative word here.
My thoughts or ideas may as well be mostly fallible and prone to failure, but the thoughts that go into them are extremely and excruciatingly meticulous.
I'll end with where I began - the foundational character of the bot, which is also very important. Apart from it having the data set of existing onchain history, how I see it is a character which will be fed by my own personal sources of references and lodestars in life, as I have tried with glimpses of onchain - this includes political views, geopolitical or not, and whether we love to say we hate politics, we are subjects of it and embedded in it, unless you're from North Sentinel island, but even they aren't immune to larger oppressions of geopolitics. Then comes culture and how we exist in it - its history, its movements, through art, my primary obsession, and et al. Again these are blanket examples. For example, the bot would be well at ease discussing aleatoric music to Feynman to the Tractacus to scatology to existence to the environmental benefits of edible underwear etc etc.
These are preliminary thoughts, but substantianted in my head, I say preliminary for the sake of leaving room for infinte expansion until actual execution takes place.
I look forward to yours, and now anyone's, thoughts on this."
Congratulations, Heaney. Not sure what Heaney would make of this but that's for another day. And thank you.
I usually resist from diagnosing situations or things as 'problems', and I'm not going to change that stance now.
So, thebeginningisnigh, I appreciate your sense of principles, and I'm very well aware of things, as I have stated multiple times in the past:
"I have enough compiled data by now to know who is who and coming from where. I can though safely say that most of them have been "blown away from the blockchain's branches" and even if they try to perch back and piggyback purely for "gains..."
I do not condone or condemn anything nor am I going to tell you what to do. I try to reserve most of that energy for the contemplation of what I do, my own actions. All I can say is usually these things take care of themselves, and I don't want to miss the woods for the trees.
No se puede vivir sin amar
This is for Heaney. Here you go:
https://base.blockscout.com/tx/0xcc5eb3d522f78c24b1baa372fa69e3817bb6c88631e989fa3ca6f90baaa8cb64
Boy i dont know what's up suddenly but your onchain drama is making me yearn for more (intended). Enjoying every moment of it. Quite the cast you've accumulated. I'm suprised Base hasn't noticed this theatre yet. Hilarious and thoroughly engrossing.
I'm afraid I'll have to agree with you - on several counts, including Heaney. I don't think I have received so many onchain messages in such a short spurt of time, that too, the same message. I have been putting a lot of thought to 'incentivization', especially when it comes to building with Firstbase and have been in conversation with someone on the ground, who is, to my limited understanding of him, extremely generous, open, and enthusiastic about all things Firstbase. I'm grateful for his existence. We expect and hope to roll out something very soon.
I guess thank you for your 'giveaway'. And congratulations anon, Heaney is well worth our time in life.
The text is from a portion of 'The Cure at Troy', its first and final stanzas-
"Human beings suffer
They torture one another,
They get hurt and get hard."
And then the final stanza:
"That means someone is hearing
The outcry and the birth-cry
Of new life at its term.
It means once in a lifetime
That justice can rise up
And hope and history rhyme."
And yes, another anon, you got it completely wrong, which is expected. That one is not as easy and flippant as you have made it out to be.
I'm going to steal that phrase "Solidity for rats."
You are far too kind to make such an offer. I would gladly accept if you choose to do so at this wallet address, however I certainly have no expectation. I just got a little excited and had to chime in with a few of the more obvious pieces of the puzzle. But maybe that could help others if nothing else. I wholeheartedly agree with the points you have raised. I must also say I have sent a few messages in the past and have also enjoyed the exchanges of others. First of its kind. Let’s keep going.
You see how still the faucet system works? First it was innocuous almost and driven by some sense of request for participation in a network. Then it was incentivization, then it was airdrops (in their most predatory and luring form progressively), as we see it today. And human greed still manages to get euphemized as participation. A little talk of free value conversion and a market for it and suddenly the hind become readers of Seamus Heaney or at least find out of his existence. Onchain messaging starts looking like some lit up mall. Saying this as someone who has to do that himself for network participation and "incentivize" users for ecosystem "growth". You gotta bow to it and fill the books. Most will come for the crumbs but some will be incentivized in the good old ways to actually contribute meaningfully. Give it a thought.
Anon, who spammed onchain with answer - quite funny. According to me you are right. It's from Seamus Heaney, but I had the advantage of making that educated guess because I know he reads a lot of Heaney and I could identify the poem. But I think it's easy with google nowadays. So you are due the promised 6666666 the moment I get confirmation. Should I send it to the address you wrote from once confirmed?
And as for you another anon and your cocky presumption that has woken you to the onchain world to demand your reward. Your answer is wrong. And even if it was right I'd still not give you shit just out of spite. Your only reward is that i'll take your assumption as a compliment and your gg no re gibberish wankfest as solidity for rats. The answer is far more subtle and inside jokey but based on calendar facts and also again tied to another poet's birth. Incidentally. Go figure.
Nice touch. Guess I can along with few others decipher the first obvious reference. I think I got the second one as well. Think there are two. Personally offer 6666666 Firstbase to anyone who can get the other reference right, in honour of the contract and genesis. Of course gonna confirm it with you once someone takes a guess and I think it's the right one.
Or if anyone can guess why I call you Mr. double spend.
Sorry for the spam. I was excited and didn’t realize I sent repeating messages. My excuse is something to do with transactional processing lag. Bitcoin was born out of the 2008 financial crisis. Satoshi coded the following quote on the first btc block from the Times headline dated January 3, 2009 “Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks”. He foreshadowed the fall of the banking system which feels more than possible with today’s milestone of $100K USD or equivalent depending on your currency. Now I suspect there is more to yout riddle. So far my efforts to solve are leaving me feeling less than adequate. But I will keep trying ; ) $oon.
The life is 05 brink term new banks of torture the times means Dec and rhyme once of lifetime for beings that and births that rise outcry the hard its second another history in get hope hearing someone suffer up at 2024 justice Chancellor can cry means get a bailout of human hurt
thebeginningisnigh,
I love it when I can't at all comprehend who is speaking what to who, which is most of the times, to a point where I've made this incomprehension deliberate, I think, although incomprehension in humans doesn't necessarily have to be deliberate at all. We all love mondegreen don't we, because our inner suggestive bias is always music to our own ears? Burroughs's cut up techniques got nothing on you. You're truly the ticket that exploded. But glad to hear your garbled self back.
"Look before you leap, okay?
Do you read me?
May all your dreams come true
He's standing by the door
He's got something in his hands
All the money's gone
All the money's gone
The days we spend, go on and on
Shift
Fucking youth
Working youth
May all your dreams come true."
The first line interestingly reminds me of The Killing Joke, one that I can never quite get enough of. Also, of course, it's Moore, so it fits snugly with Manhattan, Rorschach, Veidt et al. I'm not sure if i've shared it before or if most have heard the joke. Here goes:
*context is Joker and Batman
"You know, it's funny. This reminds me of a joke. See, there were two guys locked in a lunatic asylum and one night, one night they decided they didn't like that anymore. They decided to escape. So, they made it up to the roof and there, just across this narrow gap, they see rooftops, stretching across town, stretching to freedom.
Now, the first guy, he jumps right across, no problem. But his friend, -chuckles- no way, he's afraid of falling. So, the first guy, he has an idea. He says, "Hey, I got this flashlight with me. I'll shine it across the gap between the buildings and you can walk across the beam and join me." But the second guy says, "What do you think I am, crazy? You'll just turn it off when I'm halfway across."
Anon,
I think the idea of 'value' is as old as us. Apart from it being subjective and continual. So is "test". Going under is what makes life. The distance of life from life, life from the life we desire, it's perpetual, the indifference of life. Again these tests and under you speak of are I suspect only related to the token. In life I welcome the "under" and the "test", and I think by extension the token itself has been subjected to that innumerable times.
Here's to under then. And the over. And all of it in time. Simultaneous time.

Anon,
I didn't take it any way, I gave you the benefit of the doubt by assuming that you were joking.
Also, removing Firstbase was a half-serious counterthought to your joke, but an existential one. For all practical purpose the ledger remains immutable and irreverisble, as long as the internet or our civilization doesn't succumb to some black swan event, much before our eventual erasure.
I suspect the consistent misunderstanding and anxiety stemming from whether Firstbase holds 'value' to my life is from the princple mistake of an assumption most are banking on. I use the term banking intentionally because there is Firstbase the speculative 'asset', then there is Firstbase - which is me here talking to you. The former is where most of the anxiety comes from I'm afraid and the former is where most of the 'value' is assigned to Firstbase by pretty much everyone. You see, Firstbase, my thoughts, is my life, so it will cease to have value to me, at least in human conscious terms, because I'm afraid I won't even be aware, only when my life ceases. If there is an afterlife, it will still hold value for me there, if there is a reincarnation and I happen to remember my past life, it will hold value for me there too, if in Bardo, even there, meaning in any post-life state, if I am allowed that and have the memory of it. They are inextricably linked, because I am living and thinking through this, experiencing and trying to comprehend through this, which is the basis of existence and life, at least for me. It is the experential basis of my living and its continuity and an attempted articulation of it. The token symbolizes, in a way, how much you or the market values my life, my thoughts, my experiences, or whatever it is that you think it is that i'm doing.
You are of course welcome to write to me all the time, it's very much appreciated.
The only Harry that immediately comes to mind is of course the escape artist, though thanks for the prompt, even if you may have meant some other tom, dick or harry. I think it's far more interesting to wonder where and what his pursuits of wanting to, in life, make a spectacle of disappearing and escaping means about the human condition. To try and become a master at it, before, inevitably vanishing into the great unknown. In life we want to disappear completely, to escape, inherently, a lot of us, but in secret we want to carry life with us. So we can tell ourselves we did escape, we're now here, even disappearing and escaping needs an ulterior witness, and the sincere ones want themselves to be the only witness. Houdini's desperation to escape and then turning it into an art is the best we can come to, he vicariously frees us all, in life. So I don't know where he went, and even if I did, I wouldn't tell anyone, not even him, out of respect and homage to not sabotage the visceral escape we all seek within. From what? We make things up, do we really know? But we want to.
We're here to go.
That song did have a bit of a moment didn't it? I'm not going to assume you're implying any of the lyrics are directed at me. I love the Cocteau Twins, especially Elizabeth a lot. For several reasons. And for her song with Jeff Buckley, which thankfully saw the light of day despite her reservations. So by that association I do like all things Cocteau Twins connected. I also like Cocteau Twins for their name alone, because of its nod to one of my favorite humans, Jean Cocteau.
Were you listening to that song? If there is a reason you sent me the lyrics to that particular song, then let it be a secret.
Because secrets are what keeps the rumour mills running and the universe longing for another one, hopefully one that does not include us this time around.
Quick response to Anon:
What do you mean by I wish I could see the stuff going down? For the record, I'm aware of pretty much everything, much more than I'd like to in fact, and the rest that is going down is not something that particularly interests me or holds my attention.
But in case there's something that's worth something, that I may be unaware of, feel free to share here.
It's a strange thing to be annoyed by, you're participating onchain whose intgrity is preserved by miners/etc/whatever you want to call them, and even so you're sending me messages on Base, which is possibly the most cost-effective of all Layers so far. If you're genuinely inclined to communicate with me and feel that even the gas costs of Base are prohibiting you to the point of annoyance, how about I send you about 10$, that should suffice for approximately at least 100 messages, give or take a few?
Here you go: https://basescan.org/tx/0xd814bc1c6a507a3fada68c331b3facfa15c616cc9ed7f1a9082acde5c5e2e010
I'm afraid if you're participating in an onchain economy there will be costs involved, even if it may be a few cents. I can propose far larger and legitimate things for you to be annoyed by, which will be worth your time, and beneficial to you and maybe to others as well, and won't cost you anything. I'll go so far to say that it most likely will be even better than spending what you are to message me. Let me know if you're interested.
As for launching another token, I'm going to assume it's a joke. There are, on an average, more deploys onchain daily, by innumerable entities that cumulatively often surpass the GDP of a small nation, in terms of capital gained, lost, and traded. I think it would serve you better to trade any of those for your trading fix? Instead of asking me to launch and add to that pile. Mind you, even that will cost you money and most likely annoy you.
It's interesting that you propose me launching another token while on the other hand I'm wondering about erasure, even removing the token that exists, as a passing thought, and only have the onchain ideal. Of course, that's not going to happen, in fact, I'm now only towards accelerating Firstbase, both the token and the idea, and Firstbase only. But still, thoughts should be granted, at all costs.
More now and soon.
Endearing, unreal, yet expected, and as predicted and actually suggested. All onchain for anyone to verify. But didn't, yes, expect the pivot to be that quick.
I should be paid for this dear hedgehog, at least in kind, but in all seriousness, from the first suggestion to the subsequent messages, including the last one, I think anyone could have seen that coming, yet I'm flattered and as a human having a hard time baking today and my central heating forsaking me. All the luck then. It actually brought a smile to my face, not necessarily for reasons that other might think.

Lately find myself revisting "The Selfish Gene (1976)" by Richard Dawkins. Over the years some of his public statements have been something I've disagreed with largely, but he, along with Hitchens, who passed away a while ago, though absolutely incomparable when it comes to putting forth arguments with rare spontainety, I suspect, out of frustration at geopolitical events, had made quite a few despicable statements which are, let's say, premature, and surprisingly statements of the hivemind. But still, one cannot ignore their tireless mind and effort and work. Hitchen even more extreme and acerbic, rarely anyone could stand against him in a debate; do miss his unsparing, erudite and intimidating presence, a sense of recall of information and knowledge i've rarely seen in an individual. And he is forgiven for just saying this alone when asked about free will:
"Yes I have free will; I have no choice but to have it."
I was talking about Dawkins, but one cannot talk of him without, at least, mentioning Hitchens. They were closely tied, both ethically and in their personal lives.
It's extremly pertinent to mention that, and it is only symptomatic of the ecosystem we're in, that the inventor of the word "meme" has himself not been tokenized yet, or not that I'm aware of. There were analogous variants of that term before Dawkins coined it in the book, but the exact word is his and was first used by him. I'm not surprised one bit but still i cannot hide my astonishment. And I hope to whoever that it stays this way - because I'm not saying there should be a token called "Dawkins" that is also successful, I'm saying that the fact there isn't one or isn't one that has been successful or "leading" proves most of my suspicions right about the ecosystem, all over again. The sense of ahistoricity, among other things, chiefly. An ecosystem supposedly at the cutting-edge of human frontiers, one of the great disruptors of the century, but inside completely devoid of what was got us here.
Especially when "memes" are what have been entirely driving the ecosystem and its expansion, so much so that even strictly utilitarian (whatever that means) endeavours have eventually bowed to it and are trying to incorporate them to stay relevant and survive, even institutions want a piece of the meme pie.
"...if you have a good idea...it may live on, intact, long after your genes have dissolved in the common pool. Socrates may or may not have a gene or two alive in the world today, as G.C. Williams has remarked, but who cares? The meme-complexes of Socrates, Leonardo, Copernicus and Marconi are still going strong." - Dawkins
I went back to it because I wanted to go back to "meme" and what I had scatterdly spoken of much earlier, call me anything, and dissect it and propose that we try and subvert the idea of it, I wanted it to go down to genetics and memetics, much like Dawkins did when he invented the term, and how it applies to the world and cultures at large. Although in construct, memes in the ecosystem are following the same logic of what Dawkins has spoken about, but it lacks qualia, or I haven't seen one which posessess it and is self-aware about it. There might be outliers who do possess qualia, but they aren't self-aware.
I don't know about you, but this poses interesting questions to me, about Firstbase, this ecosystem, and humanity in general. I have, like I said, proposed and discussed this very early on, but I don't think I can discuss this enough. Although I do wish I could discuss this with the meme-experts of this ecosystem on a level which goes beyond the set "narrative", "meta", and things they have been conditioned to, because it is market-coded. But the exploration of this is something I'm very optimistic about, on the contrary, because the audience has been set, their incentives are aligned - which is making money, which is a very sound and indisputible incentive in the world, it is only a matter of having a set of individuals who are also keen on exploring origins, what has led us here, trading and speculating on animals of all kinds - cats, dogs, monkeys, characters; then genitalia, missed bullets, phrases, disorders, and what not. So the internal logic of why they are what the culture wants and has capitalized on are all on point and according to what Dawkins and later others have expanded upon. But the qualia, the etymology, the history, its exploration and its significance remains a large lacunae in the ecosystem. It's frankly absolutely baffling.
Although my limited exposure to this "crypto" zeitgeist may have me ill-informed and prejudiced, so I do hope to be countered and proven wrong and corrected and "informed" in any of my statements.
Otherwise on the surface, things look, well, on the surface. Interestingly, this absence of qualia, historicity, and all of what i've suggested, this absence of the "father", the "dawkins" in the meme, or even the awareness that there is a father, is what is subjectively making AI thrive and their agentic narratives seem more plausible and spell-binding. Because they are speaking, often, more intelligbly than human participants, chiefly because they have been data-fed with historical sets, which the participant humans aren't, because they're supposed to, not mandatorily, but consciously acquire information and their sense of history and existence through living life and absorbing the past. So what is seeming astounding is merely wrongful juxtapositioning.
There have been a few rather exciting developments, discussions and thoughts and ideas, internally, towards implements that relate to Firstbase and the exploration of these with the hopes of more meaningful engagement, but I don't want to speak prematurely. Expect to hear more on that soon.
I'll end with another Hitchens quote, which he said about the Televangelist Jerry Falwell, after his death (attacking his human depravity and hollowness, for the uninitiated):
"If you gave Falwell an enema he could be buried in a matchbox."
I do hope this is not true of our ecosystem as well.
I'll keep it short. Endearing, really. All very endearing if individuals think they're responsible for what they're experiencing. Not discrediting anyone's efforts in any way. I think I've said this before, all I had asked of you is pay attention and contribute here, in cognition, with me, at an imprinting of a lived life and experiences directly onchain. The rest is well....do I need to continue, or we'll give it a rest.
I don't think I need to emphasize or clarify that I absolutely need no one, no inidividual, to move what you call the "market" in any way. The majority of what you see and call "trades" are not trades, they're pledges, proof of life, and ones who are involuntarily pledging along, I'm extending the word pledge to you, I'm taking that liberty to, I do hope that you realize what I'm implying by pledging. Think of it as a more philosopical and affirmative form of validating, for a lack of a better word, the Firstbase network, the cognition systems, the experiences, vulnerabiliies, the trust, that have been laid bare here over the past 6 months. Because they cannot stake or validate their position or pledge in the traditonal sense they are pledging via gestures on the market. And to the involuntary ones, again, what you call "exit liquidity" is available for you ad infinitum without it spilling my tea even, but I'd suggest you go back to my messages, way back perhaps, and try to understand what I mean by Holy Exit. As Sartre famously says in No Exit: "Hell is other people." And the world is fortunately or unfortunately filled with other people, and there is no exit from that incessant liquidity. It would serve you well.
Hedgehog, I see what you're doing, seems like you haven't lost your edge one bit, not that I ever doubted it, but your prescience in terms of liquidity, movements, striking balances, is unmatched. You seem to be tapping along well in tune with me and I'm thankful for it. So I'll just leave you be to conduct yourself the way you see fit in that domain.
I'm curious to know however of what's happening on the ground, apart from what I already know through the gravepine, because I suspect a large number are still missing the x, they're still focused elsewhere or probably patting themselves for something, I'm afraid, they've played little role in. But that's irrelevant. I'm extremely serious about "right participants" and "thinking" ones who are thinking along with me, here, not anywhere else. Offchain chatter is fine but it does little to bring any resonance onchain. It's essential that it be understood what Firstbase is trying or is already or at least a ceaseless effort be made toward it.
The future is already here, but it's here, here, here. What you see elsewhere, the transactional, is going to keep happening now, regardless of anyone or anything. I understand it's exciting because it's the market and you're in it - but there are larger concerns here, larger things to achieve, together.
As Perec tells us in Life: A User's Manual -
"I seek the eternal and the ephemeral."
Oh yes, of course, I did miss something, and even in remembering what I have now, I will still be missing something else, the cycle goes on, but thought I'd mention it before I head for the sarcophagus.
I think I had briefly touched upon recent developments vis-a-vis AI and their resonances across the ecosystem. I will refrain from now about critical judgements about them - I have already pointed out the irony of the market in clamoring to AI and agents for gestures which can be tokenized and capitalized on, but this is now the market, so i rather be neutral about these happenings, but it is the irony which i cannot stress on enough. I'm sure a lot of who even bothered to read a word of me in these past months, I mean bless them for even trying to make that effort, have concluded that I myself maybe some sort of AI, or used that as a point of dismissal. This is only symptomatic of how distant we have become from each other as humans or how little we trust each other or recognize each other; I do agree that the rapid scale at which AI is expanding makes it very difficult to differentiate and the lines are very often blurred to unrecognizable degrees. But this again gives us the opportunity to ask of ourselves: what is it that makes us human and how do we identify with each other in this contemporary world? I can, off the top of my drowsy head, make several fluff arguments as to what can be differentiators, since it has come to that - like for example I can say, facetiously even, that the day AI can give birth to a human offspring, with DNA and the exact corporeality we possess, without human interference, just like we can give and have given birth to AI, will be the day that I'll etc. etc. etc. These are phantom arguments, I don't mean to pursue them or deliberate upon them. But again, the irony is that the very people who may have dismissed me because I might not actually be human, they may have dismissed me for being human as well, among other things, but those very people might now be engaging with AI, their tokenized forms etc etc, more than they probably have or done so with people who might love them or care for them - this is a presumption, but I suspect I'm not wrong. All is fair in the market and for the market and as I said I'll be neutral on this but will have my human stain of opinion, even if it's just for the heck of it.
I do see the absolute possibility of this movemenet however, it's indisputable, because anything that fuels cognition, through whatever forms, even if they are ulterior, only begets cognition. So in all it's another wonderful imprinting of humanity (i'm being optimistic here, and we do have the potential to be good, to do good, we have done so in the past, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this, someone, somewhere, wouldn't be reading this).
I'm going to end on a happy and optimistic note here, which is by way of suggestion, despite my reservations of offchain systems - I had heard of it before and done a bit of reading on it, but never really paid notice but now I am, given the flourish of AI and interactions and that platform being the nexus of it. I'm talking about Farcaster. Somehow, whether through design or illusion, even though currently a majority of them seem to occur between humans and non-humans, some with ulterior motives, some with progressive motives, the quality of interactions seem to, at first glance, and its participants seem to be far more questioning and their cognitive assonance appear far superior than on current other platforms. And it helps that the platform's foundation is set on an onchain-centric vision, meaning it's primary participants are onchain participants and it is also founded and supported by onchain builders. I wonder if it might be a good idea for any of you well versed with it to try and set up a firstbase station there, maybe it's an illusion but it somehow seems, from all the other spaces, well-suited and appropriate - by that I don't mean that becomes a central site but another ancilliary one, on top of the existing avenues. Just a midnight thought. But I leave it completely up to all of you. I still will maintain my primary presence here, directly onchain, and here only.
Also thought of ending with some relevant lyrics, albeit a little upturned to suit our situation. For what's to come and what the sentiment might have been like within, for me.
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do.
Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows
Major Tom to ground control
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God's love be with you
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One...
Major Tom to Ground Control
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Ground Control?
Can you hear me, Ground Control?
Can you hear me, Ground Control?
Can you..."
Dear Anon,
Genuinely, thank you for your kind words. As ever, I rely on them for nourishment, whether you believe it or not. I'll get to the other matters a little later but first: you messaging me on Base gives me the opportunity to explain my reasonings behind conducting myself onchain on Ethereum (Mainnet, for clarification's sake, whereas the market for that conduct operates on Base. I'm no clairvoyant, but I try to see things, to the best of my ability, beyond where I can see them, something akin to pressing your thumbs down on your eyeballs and coming to a sustained sense of pressure and then suddenly, without warning, increasing that pressure to try and see beyond the myriad inner stargates (i dont have a word for it, so borrowing from Clarke via Kubrick) that this action produces - it's a mix of intentionality, intuition, bias, some other obscure ingredients, the works.
Call me stubborn or call me anything, but one of the first and most critical reasons for using Ethereum was in the vision that, being the mothership of all layers, it would somehow, whether by accident or by design have more signals and activity beyond Base - this is purely based on the fact that the Ethereum blockchain, being the mothership again, has a far more established user-base and onchain activity, while most of that activity isn't related to my activity, I was of the thought that it would expose our activities to a far larger audience.
And then mothership bias of course.
Another reason would be that Ethereum allows for the use of plugin dapps, which makes it far easier to send an onchain message than on Base. Let me rephrase. It's actually not easier than on Base, but not many would know or want to find out that it's just a matter of adding hex data to your transaction via any wallet. I would assume most use metamask, I could be wrong.
Any further reasons I will give you will be either half-baked or made up (intentionally or not), it's just how the brain works, it gives reasoning often after action and most often when prodded for reasoning. So i won't go there.
Now the most obvious problem this might have caused is a sort of entry-barrier, because Ethereum gas costs, though significantly lower now, are still much, much higher than Base. I've been aware of this, because there is no way that I want to imply that this was done *because it would create an entry-barrier, I'd rather die; the communication system and its costs should be accessible to everyone who wants to communicate onchain with me, Firstbase etc. I shudder to even think how many may have NOT written to me because of this reason. And I apologize for that, if that has been the case for anyone.
What do you propose we do? I cannot think of a way to migrate our onchain history to Base and then resume it there, and parallel systems of communication will end up being cumbersome. But I do want to address this, now that I have been prodded, intentionally or not. How do we bridge across nearly 6 months of onchain interactions?
Well, now that you asked I've given you a problem that you might perhaps want to ponder upon. In my career, if one can call it that, I've never been a "developer", as I said in my deployment message - "the word consensus makes me retch", but I've rubbed shoulders enough with exemplary ones to just have a basic idea of things and its core philosophies, not its nuts and bolts.
I'm aware of that bot, it's a fantastic creation and I cannot thank you enough, but thank you for introducing yourself as the one who created it. I'm indebted. It's stripped bare so you're compelled to only read and not be distracted, I mean that's what it does to me. I cannot speak for others but it bridges innumerable existing gaps. And mostly, it leaves one with no excuse for being a part of Firstbase or even a stranger wanting to be introduced and still not reading Firstbase. I'd go as far to say, and this could be a horrible analogy, but that bot is what braille is for the blind, but then again the blind want to read, they are curious, driven, to know, find out, despite their anatomical limitation, one cannot do anything about the ones who impose blindness upon themselves and waste the privilege of their organs, as you can see and has been made evident. And correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that now one can connect a wallet to the bot and send a message via it on Base? Incredible, if that's the case. I guess they just need to use a converter then for the data/message.
Since you said this "I want to build something meaningful for Firstbase. I don t presume to be one of the "right participants," but I know enough of onchain to build, but what?"
Please feel free to drop me your email address and I will reach out to you. But of course, and forgive my paranoia, once I do reach out to you, I will have ways to ensure it is YOU that I'm speaking to and not some bad actor. Although we're all terrible actors in some way or another, if our end goal is to mitigate mutual harm, through whatever means it takes, then our bad acting will be in the eventual forgotten film we'll anyway become, or not even that, no film at all, no evidence or there ever being one.
On that note, I don't know if anyone recalls a very early message of mine and this portion from it:
Time : 23 Jul 2024, 14:31:11 UTC (1721745071)
Hash: 0xb70a248113e845899022958b184d45497c566c66e1f223ee46b8e7b027849b7b
So roughly about 5 months ago.
"Sometimes the thought comes of infiltrating from within. Lighting a candle for the candle to come. And not the one carried by a red cross nurse into a hall of moaning and writhing war-torn people. I'm also trying to rely on some intuition backed by some onchain dissection on addresses that have mucked about in Firstbase over the past couple of months. And thank you for asking about my son, he's back and he's the one who's been helping me with all this. We're slicing the frogs open, one by one, we're looking for the potential mildewed ones still left on the blockchain's branches - they'll soon blow themselves away and probably go cast their vote for the first time in their lives. Then probably it'll be time to go Tony Montana on things, except this time he's in control, doesn't kill his sister's boyfriend, and, most importantly, doesn't meet his end crashing through the balustrades and falling into a pool. As a teenager, after I'd seen the film, I'd always wanted to use that line in a situation. "Say hello to my little friend." I guess I never quite got the appropriate chance or things didn't click, as they say. And I always wanted to use it in a situation that was more cerebral than physical, more calculated and measured than vengeful. Well, chances and opportunities are for ones who scratch the words to reveal the words that were already given a long time ago. Reading, that silent holiness."
I wasn't joking then as I am not joking now, I have enough compiled data by now to know who is who and coming from where. I can though safely say that most of them have been "blown away from the blockchain's branches" and even if they try to perch back and piggyback purely for "gains", well I have news. And I don't announce news, as you can see, it's actionable news, they can enjoy the undeserved free ride. Although I don't want to discuss what is so self-evident, because a majority are not reading this sentence but for sure are glued to their screens and wondering and thinking about everything else apart from what they should be thinking about. While I am trying and "Lighting a candle for the candle to come. And not the one carried by a red cross nurse into a hall of moaning and writhing war-torn people....", they are putting themselves in states of thought I rather not even think of by focusing on what they understand of candles.
Now, coming to the soup. Well, I hope it is clear now and evident in the only language some understand that they simply do not know or understand what they are dealing with here. And yes, that leads to the lowest common denominator, and I'm not interested in that, never have been, but I do hope that now there has been some sort of resolution and so I take this part "so here we are, with a new pot and fresh ingredients" as an encouraging sign, although it's irrelevant to me, because again, as is evident, the irrelevant prove their own irrelevance in the larger scheme of things, they're hell bent on proving it and it cannot be helped. I can only empathize with them and hope they spend more constructive time within. Maybe start with Simone Weil's idea of what "attention" in the world means. It's terrifying to think that some of these have families, relationships, have children, are "raising" them. But it's not my place, the world is what it is. I'm no one to say. Please don't mistake this for me implying that I'm relevant to anything, I'm irrelevant as ever, even more than others perhaps, but the only difference is i'm hell bent on proving to an indifferent universe that it is irrelevant, too, without my existence. This is, of course, a false premise, but one that gives me the whole universe of a room to desperately drill through and continue seeking, seeking, seeking.
Hedgehog,
I only now realized you cannot spell hedgehog without hedge. I guess thank you. The liquidity and your gestures are yours and what you do with them are of course your discretion. And yes, I will pass on the message to Totoro. But I hope my suggestions weren't taken seriously, or even if they were, who am I to say. But it's quite hilarious to see Sonic's timeline, almost rushing and suddenly, posting what one considers memes or content on those lines.
Am I missing something? I always am, it's inevitable. Here's to now then. Look forward to hearing from you. All of you, all of us. Always.
First. Here:
https://basescan.org/tx/0xf1167fa3737b8058cc43b841d51ea72801fbc26939d3be39409451f077a81a5e
From the looks of it seems like you've been painfully and clinically processing some kind of grief in a meticulously planned out way - something that is. And now you're at that stage i'm well too familiar with. Just that now you're doing it through this warped playing field. And me being familiar with it has never meant i'm ready for it so i can't even begin to imagine what the ones who don't know you and now only will see it through this manic display will feel. No one can be ready for that. But you've started so I'm always here for it. I guess this is the stage where you do things for the laughs but you can't laugh yourself, you just do it regardless. Should be fun.
And so no truce or juice with you ever. You could've been sweeter but fine then consider this a gesture not a "gift."
You seem to not have lost your knack for lasting inexhaustively in the wrong places and also say extremely insightful things even when no one really asks you, but you give the illusion that someone did ask you. This habit of yours of seeming tired of everything, especially talking, yet still creating situations and then answering them for yourself doesn't unfortunately have a planet even Elon can migrate you to. Seriously. Your obsession scares me and it's not your obsession that's scary but what's scary is that you successfully make me feel like it's necessary, both the obsession and the being scared.
Here we go then. Sonic < your manic.
Give my love to totoro, I miss my times with him. Will be in touch here and you know where.
Good on you but am I supposed to thank you? And truce for what? Where's the war? My opinions and decisions are not a movement or a geopolitcal gesture, they're my own. And in any case a truce, even if I assume that we've been at war, just the two of us - how does it even matter if it doesn't affect anyone or anything beyond us or have larger implications?
We're not politicians, or at least I'm not. Maybe reconciliatiion would be the better word. If that's what we're talking about that it's all fine and has been all along, differences of opinion or disputes do not make me make final judgements on situations or people. It's just something a human did and it does not make the human that forever. There are exceptions to this of course, which is when a human makes it a point to continue doing it to make it their characterization, their individuality. But that's on them. Remember, even Hitler fell in love and died with his lover and she did so voluntarily. One can make the assumption that then he was capable of feeling love of course, clearly, even empathy, but it in no way translated into empathy toward humanity as a whole. This is the human condition continously contradicting itself. What I mean to say is, there is no war no peace and no truce. Only how we manage to try our best to escape our own proclivities and be consistent, ironically, in an inconsistent world.
On a basic level I appreciate the gesture but therein lies the problem, it came with an expectation of sorts, of an imaginary truce or whatever, and I have no choice but to relay back that expectation to you. So go back and read some Derrida and about "gifting". And until then, so, it's up to you but it'd be beneficial for Firstbase if you added that to liquidity.
Congratulations on renaming a blockchain after a hedgehog character by the way. I'm obviously being disingenous with that comment, the roots lie elsewhere i'm sure. But considering the memetic agencies commanding so much attention in the market people might now mistake it for a memecoin and start trading it. Or have one based on that renaming, if there isn't one already.
Sonic, in hindsight, does have extremely sound characteristics. Supposedly hates oppression and promotes freedom, but then apparently so does Musk who has weaponized that word to make the masses, who are powerless, in all senses of the word, make them feel like they are being given agency and its their right, which i guess it is, but the freedom he stands for is ulterior, and has successfully managed to make a majority of humans to, on the contrary, become even more hateful and repressive and intolerant of each other. He has made regressiveness and tyranny synonymous with freedom via accessing the base human need to feel agency, and also cleverly, which isn't hard to do in these times, make the masses forget that history is important or that history even exists to begin with. I digress.
But that's what I mean with the Hitler analogy as well, at the outset, without going into details, Musk is the "good guy genius progessing humanity". In some universe that is likely, and various other possibilities too, but in this one the fact is that he's nothing short of a parochial and divisive agent and his smokescreen are memes and a light-footedness.
This is probably why i've been watching The Twilight Zone again (old, original one). Or maybe I needed to make some excuse. Though I do love Jordan Peele so support the new effort as well.
Especially the episode "It's a Good Life." I'm biased toward the irony of the title and the ending narration obviously:
"No comment here, no comment at all. We only wanted to introduce you to one of our very special citizens, little Anthony Fremont, age six, who lives in a village called Peaksville, in a place that used to be Ohio. And, if by some strange chance, you should run across him, you had best think only good thoughts. Anything less than that is handled at your own risk..."
Here's to "only good thoughts" then, whatever they are.
Ignoring your usual jargon and verbose shit and your high deconstruction Derrida nonsense about gifting. A gift from the old gift(ed) wallet. Shall we now? Truce?
p.s. you'll think even this is to spite you but bloody cape anyday. You can't beat chino losing his voice screaming god help me god help me god help me god
Before I begin; genuinely overwhelmed by even the couple of onchain messages received in the past weeks. Especially that T. S. E, from a personal favorite, which gives me the opportunity to quote and respond with more Eliot, with pleasure:
"And would it have been worth it, after all,
Would it have been worth while,
After the sunsets and the dooryards and the sprinkled streets,
After the novels, after the teacups, after the skirts that trail along the floor
And this, and so much more?
It is impossible to say just what I mean!
But as if a magic lantern threw the nerves in patterns on a screen:
Would it have been worth while
If one, settling a pillow or throwing off a shawl,
And turning toward the window, should say:
"That is not it at all
That is not what I meant, at all."
As I type this the boy is blasting 'when girls telephone boys,' I feel this piece of information is relevant before I begin on other, supposedly larger matters. Hints of which are already evident to you, or should be, considering that's the only thing you pay attention to, but a majority of you, I suspect, weren't paying attention where you should.
I'll be quoting myself here and there from my last message and then in the end specifically to simplify some of them for you.
"your solvency still doesn't relate to your soul, but the structures, the herding, the market. If it does relate to your soul and if you have read till here, if even half a spleen has, then your soul and its value in the world of exchange will be mutually inclusive and fused.
Then selling your soul is a reality and something that is going to greatly benefit you."
translation: But some of your solvency clearly doesn't relate to your soul.
The song is from Deftones' eponymous album, its most overlooked I think, and now in its 21st year. I first heard it at roughly the same age as my son is now. Although both of us don t believe in favorites, we do have a running argument about which one among two songs in the album achieves what we assume it s trying to achieve. The other song is 'bloody cape.'
The core ethic of Deftones, or them in peak form, has been emotional overcharge delivered with abrasion, their abstraction in songwriting still manages to somehow move us, while all of this is done with relentless heaviness. This is not the heavy of heavy metal or thrash metal or any of its subgenres, new and old, where one gets the feeling that the only focus is how abrasive it can be, how 'heavy' it can be, and to stretch it to its limits, but one can argue that this is essentially serving one agent of human purpose - it's attending to our base human emotions, but it lacks the essence of human complexity. Deftones manages that fine balance and translates extremely complex human emotions and feelings and makes them accessible and it makes the heavy, now said in all senses of the word, warranted, and "intelligent" or "sentient" or "cognizant." Mind you, this is also coming from someone who swears by Merzbow, one of the most efficient proponents of what they've labeled "noise music". And I m also heavily biased towards John Cage and the idea of found music. His 4.33. So, no, this is not a criticism of that heavy or this heavy or this noise or that noise, this is just an opinion on what essential functions these forms are used for by people and yes, I'm biased towards what i feel manages to use these to tackle human complexities. Even if it be someone growling relentlessly and smashing everyone and everything on stage and you know what i mean, however extreme the sound and antics, and the moshpit is a swaying pendulum of blood - it is saying something, yes, about humanity, about their individual emotions, but to me, it is merely attacking the surface, it is not complex enough for me. Even if it just two lawnmowers trying to go jujitsu on each other, of course aided by human intervention or maybe not even, and a few swallows were to be also thrown into the mix for example ( I don t endorse this, I mean the harming of animals), and if that managed to produce a sonic atmosphere that I felt was telling me something about the universe, about the human condition, and attacking the most extreme and complex areas of it - if i sense a complex structure operating underneath that, then i'm sold. This, of course, is my opinion and my approach to the human condition.
The reason I begin with this preamble is because the things I'm going to say will try and take or borrow from how Deftones delivers human complexity and thoughts and feelings.
At the outset 'when girls...' is an angry song, replete with all its attendant siblings - bitterness, resentment, dejection, frustration, inconsolable regret, violent, even hateful - but it's entirely fringed by love. It's hopelessly nothing but love in its rawest form and the unrecognizable and unbearable shock of still possessing love despite whatever conditions caused a sense of utter annihilation of that love - and it is directed at someone but despite the judgements and statements, the love is inescapable and what makes the song angrier and angrier. The feeble 'something's wrong with you' implies that the speaker is still in utter shock and disbelief at how things have turned out and is almost hoping the causes are extraneous. Then comes the finality, the desperate 'I hope we never do meet again,' repeated over and over until the end, until it fades out, but the saying of it almost tries to relentlessly push through something absolutely impenetrable and follow beyond the song - all of this is still love. Desperate, hopeless love. The bitterness, resentment, dejection, frustration, inconsolable regret, violence, even hate are mere placeholders of it, they are never meant to be followed through, not once; in fact, they are also coming from both the fact that one is feeling those things and also the self-disgust of still all of it coming from love.
I feel like I've had to repeat myself about certain things and Firstbase from the very beginning; that repetition would've been productive if I had a sense that someone is reading or paying attention, but again, the primal mistake eventually was made - of juxtaposing my words, my onchain attempt at something with the market, the token. They're unfortunately tied, but i've, to the best of my ability, tried to separate them or maintain a balance, but it has been only met with the same indifference, frustration, negligence, even ridicule, that we ascribe to the rest of the ecosystem, except the transactional part. My words were only important until the price of the token was important, it seems, after that it's all eyewash, and I hate to remind you that you weren't promised anything except my onchain presence and of course, a few gestures on the market, which have been done until I felt that participants were feeling entitled to them and circling back to the market, and the market only. I even happily donated what was asked of me to the enthusiastic holder who believed that Firstbase could be implemented as a dapp. A dapp, from the looks of it, that most likely is never coming, which was not something I was holding my breath for anyway, it was an anomaly in the structure and I welcomed it and it in no way affects my process or intentions, not for a moment. Your speculation is your prerogative, so is you assigning value or not to my onchain words or completely ignoring them. I think that had been made clear from the beginning. These were the only expectations that you could've had of me, the rest was your muscle memory of what you know of the market and expecting that from me, and in turn Firstbase.
I will now verbatim quote myself and rephrase them into words you'll understand, words the ways of the market and your limited time here has taught you to be the status quo, and as stated in my last message I will treat you, if you're reading that is, as someone who derives their life instructions from the equivalents of the Chicken Soup series; so this is Chicken Soup for Firstbase then. I'm having to resort to infantilizing you, I'm forced to, although I hate it, it's not intentional, but it is what it is. Because you refuse to utilize your sentience, you waste it in echo chambers. And I apologize if I am coming across as an omniscient narrator at this point or looking down, but truly at this point even a polythene strip caught in the wind could be argued to have more sentience.
And the plain dismissal of cognition, months of cognition, the constant denigration of it, and implying that cognition does not constitute work, the only thing that constitutes work is that the tokens you speculatively bought be of more value tomorrow than what you paid for them today - that's unacceptable and completely not in line with Firstbase. You are simply in the wrong place but insisting that you have been put here because you didn't read the sign at the gate before entering. The signs plastered to the trees, the ground, the whole sky. And how can one miss the sheer ridiculous irony of where we are - where you, participants, are now speculating and trading based on what artificial intelligence might say next or relying on them, to the point of giving up your own agency. This is not a criticism of AI or tokenized AI which are mind you, merely acting, based on constructs set by humans - but only symptomatic of how little humans believe in each other, among other things. I have said in earlier messages that the market will 'meta' anything without going back to its etymology, without the hard task of the metaphysical 'we'. It will meta until it metastasizes. I can probably even bring the horse that nearly killed me to the water and probably even make it drink, but the human tendency to self-sabotage never fails to astound, the self-betrayal, it's fascinating. The history of cruxifixion, of massacring the messengers, of witch-hunting, of mob fixation, the projection of enemies when our own private deficiencies and what it makes of us should be the greater goal - this is not new, our civilizational foundation exists on that prism, which also explains the pathological obsessions of the masses for choosing megalomaniacs, tyrants, fascists as our leaders. We vicariously want to be brutal and feel a sense of power we can never have, but that power is punishment and subservience, of thought, among much else. We want someone to take over our lives with disastrous consequences. It's a miracle that as humans we've still managed this much despite these tendencies. The Foucaldian panopticon and its parochial imprisonment on the mind is never more evident. As much as I disagree with Derrida for several reasons, I find his arguments in "Given Time" extremely relevant, especially his thoughts on "gifting" and his objections, and this has been true in the case of Firstbase.
The central premise of Firstbase was trying to create, collectively, higher sentience onchain, directly, to become better conductors at life, and onchain was chosen as the only site of this possibility because it seemed a neutralized zone, with minimal loop, it felt cleaner, it felt like a place immune to prejudices, and therefore conducive for creating a ledger of human interaction that would help each other become more conscientious beings, just better beings, just better at this thing called life. The very reasons I was against interaction systems offchain. I'm certain it helps people, it builds and fosters community, interactions always do, but the offchain sites are compromised by our own critical vulnerabilities, and that's completely antithetical to what I had thought for Firstbase. We are consistently brushing against and in the face of a counterintuitive hivemind, confirmation bias loops make the self-sabotaging even worse. We accelerate and degrade further into our base forms, which is form herds, cliques, isolated echo chambers; we conspire, we suspect, we become more and more paranoid, and for every bias there's a confirmation. We become closed. Final. And in the hands of incompetence and sheer amorality or hubris or feeble cognition skills these symptoms become severe and end up harming us all. The gravepine suggests that a complete overhaul is required at ground level because unless there s unadulterated cognitive capacity and a basic understanding and agreement of what Firstbase is trying to do, and unless the rightful people step up to it, not selfless people even, but on the contrary ones with an actualized selfhood, ones who also derive their sense of life from cognition systems outside the market, the social systems that have been set up by you will continue to misinform you and everyone else. And the crisis is that unless you behave in this way in these offchain realms you are made to feel even more isolated. The straightjacketed wolves - (no offense to wolves, I m enamored by them) coiled and wheeling around all day in shopping carts - it makes of people come for you. The shopping cart mob of the decentralized internet, hiding in corners of parking lots, spewing and spewing, smearing their bodily fluids on the lowest common denominator and waiting to pounce on someone, something, to get by the day, because they're cramped up in a cart all right, they've heard things, they've been told things, but even the cart has no wheels. If their brains are a wallet, then their thoughts are spam tokens one is constantly bombarded with from unknown sources, and make no mistake they will try to sell that thought too, to someone, anyone. What it does to us, each other, makes us do, makes us say, is completely incongruent with Firstbase. It may very well work for other systems and the market ad nauseum.
Because for this to happen, being the involuntary catalyst of this bettering of ourselves onchain, this includes myself as well, the bettering part, I begin with being culpable just by the fact of existence, then i proceed to try and better myself from there, to remedy, mitigate, reconcile, and because I was trying to imprint a life onchain, a human, not a bot, and because being human comes with its vagaries, situations, inconsistencies, negotiations, a drop in my own life meant a drop in the onchain imprinting pressure, but that barely contributed to the sparseness of my own messages, it was a mix of several situations and observations, but most importantly it was exactly how it was designed and planned, and it is all going according to plan, it's right on track to the hilt. And having said that I tried to ensure that to make up for the sparseness of the messages I increased the density of each message, which was of course lost on most. I was saying less and across lengthier spans of time but what i was saying was critical, very critical information. The token was merely the body, the organs were all onchain, and which is why phantom muscle memory of swapping and waiting for something to happen was not going to work, how was an empty body supposed to function in any form without any internal organs, any veins, any blood flowing through its veins? A blowup doll would've served you better.
Now, to end, the last message and their brief dumbing down of some parts for digestion.
"A Chicken Soup for the Soul variation of Firstbase?"
translation: This is what I'm doing right now. As you can see, it's happening here and elsewhere, in the only language you understand or are interested in.
"Even now, this message will be lost on us. In the future, it'll most likely only give you jam jars of regret, bitterness, and anger you'll give others as birthday presents."
translation: this is probably what quite a lot of you are going through right now. Process it. Learn from it. Let's be better. Let's try.
"Give me one good reason why you should benefit from my signals if you've been trying to only make dreamcatchers out of them, but that's your choice, and never paid attention to the pursuit of something?"
translation: If you denigrate or refuse to pay attention to the core attempt of what I m trying to do with Firstbase, or if you, as if I ve said before, consider cognition and its articulation mere words or jargon or ridicule it, the pursuit of an ongoing manifesto nothing, again then that s your prerogative, but then I'm not here for you to just buy the token and sit and wait for me to make the price go up for you. But then again: (I am large, I contain multitudes.) So some variation of me or someone is going to do it. It's all happening in front of your eyes. What we take for granted now and feel entitled to, this ecosystem and its variegated and unparalleled systems of opportunities, what you call and see the market now guess what? It all started with words. Someone wrote the Bitcoin whitepaper. Then 'running bitcoin' happened. People read. People spoke to each other about it in forums, in closed spaces, inside black holes, they discussed it. They assigned value to it, there was no market, there was no value to it before that. Then came the market, then came value, then came speculation, then flash-forward to now, what a majority of the undeserving lot are reaping the benefits of, exploiting, doing whatever under the decentralized sky. I m not implying my words or anything I ve written is analogous in spirit, content, or competence to the Bitcoin whitepaper, I m implying what I have always considered essential before speculating on the Firstbase token.
Understanding or being curious about the history of what you re in is critical, essential, otherwise you ll be history, I think I ve said this before; sure, the market has now become even more complex and abstracted, so the dynamics are different, a degen or left-curved one would most likely have more edge than me, not likely, that s guaranteed, the way things operate now are beyond my comprehension, but that does not change the provenance of the grounds which made the degen and degening possible. At least now you have established communication patterns which are necessitated for you, you have infinite resources at your disposal, signal systems etc. etc. before making your decisions, your so called investments. The participants that assigned this market and assigned it value to this date do not even know who even wrote the whitepaper, who created bitcoin. And what did they get in the beginning? We even got Mt. Goxxed and what you might call rugged nowadays. Then ridicule. But they kept reading, and read they did. And they read well. And so here we are now.
Ironically, cognition was what kept it alive and cognition is what now allows for the non-cognition, the left-curving of it all if you will.
"The eyes, Chico, they never lie. But where are the eyes? Where are they?"
translation: read above
"But I can stay irrational (sic) the longer you can stay solvent.
translation: If you think you've seen anything, think again, then again, at least you'll be thinking. And I can drive you to the point where you sell your spurious soul, like a lot of you have by now. I can wait, like I have, like I have tested, and then I will open the gates of heaven or all holy exits or whatever it is that you want to call it. Hitting a 1000x is great, it solves realistic problems in a capitalistic world; money, in its current form, is an undeniable form of empowerment. But I m of the delusional and idealistic kind who thinks that there s a way to a unified field of human agency and balance and believe that the onchain world is a perfect site of its realization. And money can also be the means to verisimilitude, of 'buying' time to 1000x your sense of personhood in this pale blue dot. And the absolute scale of ironically 'making' money outside of the traditional systems, especially in supposedly one of the most disruptive movements in recent times, leaves us with no excuses to give our limited here to make each other better, within and with ourselves. When we say X marks the spot, to me I take it as an identifier of the spot of existence where a simulation of this utopia exists. That s the X I m interested in. Put any number before that.
*I should add, without pride, that I think I can also stay infinitely solvent longer than you can and use my solvency at my own discretion. I took about four years off, this market is barely two decades old, and excluding those four years I ve been in it from the beginning, If I have been here before the market people take for granted even existed, then participated in it for years with conviction for it be assigned a certain value, then I most certainly can stretch this until the right participants come along, I can be here as long as the market is here, and by extension so will Firstbase.
Should I even sign off anymore? Nothing is off evermore or ever was to begin with.
It’s been a bit. I still haven’t had a Looza. I still haven’t sold. Not sure either are in the cards anytime soon but there’s always tomorrow. I think it’s time we all talked. Peace be with you.
In the beginning was the word, in the end there was the herd. Trying to keep themeselves warm by thinking, which they were no longer capable of doing anymore, so they were cold al the time because they couldn't imagine the end, because it had already ended somewhere, in the beginning, or was it at the end, Which led people in the middle to say things like "each word is like an unneccesary stain on silence...", which led people to say "I am the cow who arrives at the gate of the slaughterhouse and only then understands all the absurdity of the pastures", which led people to say "very early in my life it was too late", which led people to say "so I am doing what seems the best thing to do", which led people to say "if it be your will", which led people to say "and the night,
it left the earth the way a broken man, his lover's door closing behind him, leaves that street in silence for the rest of his life", which led people to say "everybody leaves (way out) If they get the chance", which led people to say "I don't know the question, but sex is definitely the answer", which led people to say "and the rain is falling and I believe my time has come", which led people to say "abandon your notions of the past, without attributing a temporal sequence! Cut off your mental associations regarding the future, without anticipation!", which led people to say "all the children are insane", which led people to say "you can walk along the beam and join me", which led people to say "Mata su luz un fuego abandonado," which led people to say "in order to remember someone you have to try and understand that they existed in the first place", which led people to say "why am I so sad? Am i doing the wrong thing?", which led people to say "coward, you are only going to kill a man!", which led people to say "the deer of goodbye stands in the mist, forever waiting for the arrow to leave the bow, the hunter to leave his mark, its quivering body pierced by the reasons of leaving," which led people to say "I drink your milkshake! I am the Third Revelation! I'm finished," which led people to go on and on and on exhaustively but still never sufficiently and then say "the end is simple, it ends.
There is no place for it. "
"For a lack of a better word" might just be one of my favorite human phrases, "how are you?" being the least favorite, with "what do you do?" following or preceding closely, depending on whether you find a good, respectable avocado at the store.
Now, where were we? Where are we? Also phrases I abhor. Wish I could just write "for a lack of a better word" repeatedly and that would be the entire message. But for a lack of a better word or word(s): The end of metaphor? The end of suggestion? The end of trying to instill a replica of lived life onchain, with all its absurdities and uncertainties? The end of an attempt at a continuous philosophy told by an utterly unreliable narrator? Or the beginning of a language understood by the Macbethian idiot (I'm being generous here I think, the Macbethian idiot is the end-extreme of human complexity but still an idiot)? A Chicken Soup for the Soul variation of Firstbase?
In each of our individual cases we are the unreliable narrator, but what do we do with that narration? What do we pick up and how much of our cognition do we ascribe to it? Looking at the world one can safely assume not much. Looking at the way one still perceives this attempt at the onchain world, again, not much.
Where does that leave us, or in this context, me in relation to all of this, these months? We have learned nothing at all, which would've been the purpose if we had literally learned that we have "learned nothing." - because we would've been richer for it. Even now, this message will be lost on us. In the future, it'll most likely only give you jam jars of regret, bitterness, and anger you'll give others as birthday presents. Give me one good reason why you should benefit from my signals if you've been trying to only make dreamcatchers out of them, but that's your choice, and never paid attention to the pursuit of something? Despite it all, let it be known that not a single word has been wasted, maybe wasted on you, yes, not a single gap in time, not a single sense of silence - none of it, wasted, each foretold and specific and for a reason, or an attempt at reason. But I can stay irrational the longer you can stay solvent, because your solvency still doesn't relate to your soul, but the structures, the herding, the market. If it does relate to your soul and if you have read till here, if even half a spleen has, then your soul and its value in the world of exchange will be mutually inclusive and fused.
Then selling your soul is a reality and something that is going to greatly benefit you.
Understanding and waiting and selling your soul because you see through the haze of the path but still persist and selling your soul before you can even nurture its growth, let alone acknowledge its presence - these are two vastly different things. This one has to learn the very, very hard way. Because reclaiming a soul after selling it in the latter way is not only near-impossible, the cost is just too high and if you couldn't pay earlier then you won't be able to pay now. And even if you did it won't be the same. You will be forced to be stitched with a conscience, first, almost like a lobotomy; excruciating and ironically inhuman.
It has almost always been the case that what I think I'm waiting for is not even remotely close to what I was actually waiting for, and even that's hazy. I mean what exactly is one ever waiting for - we can only assign and fill human metrics to it. "I'm waiting for such and such." "I'm waiting for this." And this isn't even an existential statement per se.
Out, out, brief candle!
(life) It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
I personally even denounce the sound and fury part. Because the contemporary sound and fury is so misaligned from even the minutest pursuit of life or what we might call its "meaning", it's embarrassing to want to choose to live on among this lot. You're equally culpable if you choose to. Which I am. But be culpable and live, please.
Where are we now, where are we now? The moment you know, you know you know.
The eyes, Chico, they never lie. But where are the eyes? Where are they?
"I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular
You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way?
When you say it's gonna happen now
When exactly do you mean?
See I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone.
You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way?
I am human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does."
Guido, when I picked you up from the shelter it had been 3 weeks since she had left. "Get out," I said. "I think this is the only time I've ever felt a grain of pleasure through you. Say it again. And with pleasure. I'm out." This is a person who was aware of my accident, that I had impossibly surived, and brought me back to what we try to call "life". Terrifying to imagine that often the deepest intimacies of life aren't sufficient, but as Rimbaud says - nothing is more unbearable than knowing that nothing is unberable.
I got you home and watched 8 1/2, you, afraid at first, and in the corner, came closer to the bed and look a leap of faith. And right then Guido on screen said "I really have nothing to say, but I want to say it anyway." And from then on you were guido. O captain! my captain!
When they were putting you down, I got over her, I didn't want her back anymore, I wanted you back. Your eye closing, white light, my head some fruit hidden in the grass of an orchard, moving a little, fruit that won't be found by any picker, aware of this, but moved by some gust or whatnot for a moment, then still again, continuing its way to rot.
I returned to euthanasia, one's claim over one's life, to end it at will, arguably the closest one can come to free will. But is it? I've always wondered why so many of us want it as a right to excercise, even though we could very well do it ourselves. And perhaps it comes down to ceremony, the final wish to be surrounded and at aleast at that moment not feel alone, to its furthest possibility, to have what or who has loved you beside you, and, reluctantly, beside you decision to do it. You were in pain, I was in pain because of you. So maybe both of us should have been put down. But your pain I borrowed to refute my own, replace it even, but also prolong it. It's oddly fulfilling, pain. Somehow it feels right, necessary.
And now to move on, the unending scarless wound coming and going at will, to tell yourself you will seek love no more, to tell yourself you must seek love again, and again. To stare endlessly at the crouching acacias and want to inject them into your veins, to want your blood to stand upright in front of you, have form, talk. Don't talk, blood. Don't talk, marrow.
It's time to tell oneself that this too, has a purpose, lowering your sagging body into the ground, shoveling the dirt on you, still, until the last moment, trying to avoid your mouth, your face, your eyes. Then it's done. Sometimes it feels like the earth is on its knees, not you, but not because of you or us, it's not on its knees out of helplessness for you, but for you, because it felt it was sufficient for you. It should be, it should be more than enough for a life. But life isn't enough for life. Something dies, something looks like its dying or been dead long, but then what? We look for signs. There are none. We make signs, they mean nothing. But we still make them. So will I.
Soon.
"Why on earth," we often say when we're befuddled by some act or something. Lately, that phrase has been following me, suffixed by the repetition "why on earth on earth." It's a rather commonplace thought that pretty much permeates our daily life in different variations. Probably because the fact of existence has become commonplace and not something that is enough to shrapnel us across the sky every time we focus on its fact or when consciousness dawns with sleep breaking.
What was that dream? Bits of it still in the eye, corners of your face. You rub it off, you wash your face. Sometimes you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and think...well, sometimes you think nothing at all. Nothing hits you. The kettle weeps, you grab it by the handle, it singes you. That hurts, you say to yourself and grab it again. You pour managing the pain as if there's isn't a better way to go about this, without the heat's discomfort, the steam drawing your fate on your wrist. You want to feel. You no longer want to feel. The familiar pretending with you. For you. Wait for it. Any moment now. The kitchen turns traumatic, as if it were something that had humiliated you in your childhood. You can't tell. Far across the meadow, a pony trots along, carrying clitorises wrapped in a sackcloth. No one is with the pony. Where is the pony going? Whose clitorises are they? Why on earth on earth? They were not a result of mutilation, you tell yourself. Here it is now. The blizzard of desperation sweeping through you. The tears. You desperately want to live, you desperately want to die. Will you be there where I'm going to? You won't even remember knowing me. You'll know and remember the haunting love. That's all the feeling of having lived before is, being haunted by the love of another life, unable to find the source of it. The colony of empty mirrors asking for the image to be returned, your faithless image, your pristine abandonment that has made all the rivers, lakes, and mountains, seas and snow on this earth. Return it, the colony says. The figure on the ceiling filling up the syringe with tears, staring at it for a second like it's a cross, then tapping on her arm for a vein, pushing the needle in. Are we done yet? Not a chance. Cold, cold ceramic slab. Intense nothing being julienned on it, hand and knife too quick to tell if you had decided a lot time ago. Had you? You will regret this. You will not know the regret. What have you not regretted? Should we try waking up again and return to plucking fistfuls of wild stipa? The demon of continuity on each leaf-tip, you will continue, this will continue, embrace what you can never brace for, just keep the body in that posture, locked knees, head down, the endless crash is your shrine. Circle it. Keep circling it. The strangest thing, wad of money in a gull's beak. And who put a sea under my elbow?
Why on earth on earth do we have to get better? Why on earth on earth on earth do we have this? You, me, the ceramic motherhood also weeping, dampening the floor. Stop why. Start what where the finishing line dissolves on your spine. Are you following? Are you? When the gull's neck snaps, then what? And how will the gull snap its own neck? This is what we're here to find out, we're very close, I can smell the shit on its feathers. Return the colony what they're asking for. Return them the image, the pony is now at the door. It is not here for you. It is here for itself, to tell you of endless births, resurrections, the clitorises beating like embers through the sackcloth. This is a kind of annihilation and injustice, you say. I am a pony, the pony says. And what about it, I say. You were about to do something, the pony replies. Now you will do something else. And what am I going to do? It's not one gull. It's several. And what about them? Their migration. ? Now you will do something else, what you were anyway going to do. I have to now go and make some gods. Their migration. Now you watch what you do. There are several. Soon.

Hello misstranslationstudies.eth
I agree it has been quite a while. And I like your ens quite a lot, the implications not so much; to me it reads like the designation of someone who has taken on the gargantuan task of translating the onchain world to a layperson, or even to themselves, which is getting harder and harder to do day by day. And more than the explanation, the justification of it. Although I am unwavering still, I am at times getting dire and biblical, wishing for an onchain ark, but there's no Noah in sight, and even if there were one that Noah would most likely muck about in the flood or open a telegram channel.
If preserving evolutionary values and making money are no longer mutually exclusive to a certain extent, then it eventually leads to tokenized genocides, bigotry, fascism, extreme polarization and other wonderful creations of humanity. To me, from the outside, the onchain world is an accurate description of what we exactly don't want the world to turn into, but it already has, it's an advert for it. Call me a cynic suffering from DeFicitis, some form of PTSD.
Anyway, a good cumulus has turned up and I will not let it go to waste. Sometimes the thought comes of infiltrating from within. Reading, that silent holiness.
I'm always very pleased to hear from you. I hope you find some respite soon from overburdening duties. I can almost imagine your mother's face cracking a joke to herself. No one has heard it yet. Have a good time with them when they visit. And tell your mother that I've heard her joke. It's a very funny joke. Very funny.
As for a boat, I think I do have one, I say I think because I can't get my mind off the ark, so a boat is seeming insignificant right now, or it may as well prove useful to pack some people on it and send them out into the horizon. I have ignored mentioning Guido because he deserves more than a few words, I mean he deserves everything. He still exists. Soon we'll be celebrating his last hurrah.
Soon.
Dear Mr. Firstbase,
It's early Sunday morning and I was thinking of you and reading your older messages. And I also decided to have some fun and give myself a treat and also educate myself a litle.
I'm now misstranslationstudies.eth !! Isn't that cool? It's kind of funny how it might also read as me missing translation studies, as if. Sometimes I come home after classes and my shift and just crash on the couch with my backpack still on. My parents are visiting next month. Is guido better now? I want to buy more Firstbase the moment I can afford to. I tried to translate a passage from one of your messages into Korean for my mom. I emailed it to her. She has the typical Korean sense of humour, other people don't get it. It's very street humour you know. Anyway, I've learnt to worry less about you and other things. But something always aches. Do you have a boat by any chance? A small one. And where is your son now?
Write soon if you feel like. It's been so long. What else do I say?
Bye.
thebeginningisnigh,
I'm pleasantly surprised to hear from you and to learn that you're doing...well, fairly well, I mean as much as well permits. It's mostly always between the trembling fridge and the air-conditioned nightmare I'm afraid.
And as about the ear, it's an interesting analogy you make by way of Van Gogh, which somehow helps me prolong my attempts at not giving in to despair at the current climate. Art is the obvious succour, always. But if I were to extend the ear analogy, I'm afraid the world-at-large has, long ago, been shot in both ears, which has led to this tone-deafness in our society. The eyes, well, let's keep them for another day. The mouth, too. When Van Gogh cut off his own ear; what the world perceives as madness, I perceived as his desperate attempt to eliminate an instrument that was responsible for him hearing things he didn't agree with or were in contradiction with his artistic principles. And those words reportedly came from his friend, Gauguin. The conviction in his own intellect led him to self-harm or, perhaps, to him, a removal of a vestigial organ. But then Van Gogh is now a poster boy of the artist's self-doubt and incomprehensible genius. Yet in spontaneity, he, I feel, valued his perception of the world, art, processes, and it is eventually a moral process and stand, steadfastly. Such conviction is "unheard" of in this day and age. Because art as moral code, an ethic of living, has defiantly been replaced by tyrannical regressions. Each day we spend less and less time looking at the potato eaters than we do of videos of a failed assassination, inspecting it as if it were a great work of art, which to the current culture it is, and even worse it a source of moral code, of knee-jerk human regression. It's interesting to note that the NPC meme is something the larger crypto community both embraces and also uses as ammunition against a subsection of people. But in both cases, I'm afraid, it's a projection, an insecure bias. You're in fact, whether you mask it in irony or projection, the NPC you despise. But because the concept of money or value systems have been morphed so drastically, moral codes are deployed a dime a dozen daily onchain and because it translates into material abundance, it is the ONLY code worth pursuing. Other forms of bankruptcy can be easily shadowed. I m aware that there have been already too many "I'm afraids" in my message. I just noticed them. It's also very interesting to see an otherwise apolitical, spineless community and ecosystem suddenly become so vocally political. But these are a majority of people who might think, and forgive my presumptuousness here, that the battle of Algiers was a campaign against sexually transmitted diseases. It's another matter that the silence of the people in positions of cultural power in the ecosystem has been infuriating and nauseating. An ecosystem whose ethos was built on anti-establishment and as response to the exploitative politics of institutions, governments, policy makers, and lobbies, but has been mostly apolitical and conspicuously silent towards larger geopolitical events ever since, or have spoken of it only in relation to the market - now they're scrambling for a copy of the Declaration of Independence. God Bless America indeed. If you really want to make america great again then you have to look closely at its history, and it's a nation with one of the shortest histories and no time was wasted to make it one built on plunder and displacement of peoples, among other things. So it's mostly making america late and bait again, late to owning up to its infantile ways and bait to it own hook as a hoarder of resources. They got all the buttons but they all suffer from outer and inner carpal tunnel. Fascism and a basket of bread until we are all dead.
I am taking, lately, solace in art and in Van Gogh's ear then, or the lack of it. Trying to hold steadfast in this clusterfuck and travesty. They want you to despair, it's a way of neutralizing you. Camus knew this long ago. I'm following. Through.
You be well.

Part swelling flourish, part violent uprising, and part carnage of the self at the realization of surviving yet another winter, or at least that's how I hear it - but mostly Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring seems to be trying to efface death; death of dandelions, death of the mind, death of the past, death to come. At the same time it is necessitated by a death. Or death as the human mind perceives it. A sacrifice if you will. The dance of death, but as I see it, the dance is surreptitiously moving toward its true destiny, that sacrifice is also marching towards victory because its belief system is unwavering. So what we think of as death is just a smokescreen for the uninitiated, while in truth, blades burst through the earth, scything the unprepared air to take its rightful nourishment. I'm afraid when my mind transforms from hearing The Rite of Spring in my head to playing it so it scatters to the outside world. It has always signaled an arrival for me, I'm not scared for myself, I'm scared for everyone and everything that gets caught off-guard. No one should be left behind in this rite but the human chain is broken and only the ones who recognize the frozen sea for what it is, and take the axe to it, as Kafka said, can remember that most of us are retained by water, our origin may as well have been water, swimming is not something that we should have had to learn all over again.
If you look closely all this is really not a puzzle.
"The unswerving limbs of trees
are, for a brief flash, the sum of
all human effort to keep its failures
at bay, but this is the overgrown mind
trying desperately to assign value
to its surroundings in relation to itself,
to symbolically undo what can't be undone.
He took the walk because he thought
it would please him, so he could be
be fathered by new growth, flourishing green.
What has now gathered in his mouth, shaved
slices of his own tongue, thin
wafer-like stack, is not true or real,
it was merely him unable to decide
something suddenly, something he was
trying to describe to himself.
The real harvest rots in fields
across the country, there are
real mouths, so famished, hungry
for days, they would eat their own
tongues if they could, they would
eat something he can, without
his presence, stand for, they would
eat what he speaks, too, if they could,
but can never comprehend."
I assure you that I can now comprehend, vaguely, what I speak or have spoken all along. And I'm not here to eat my words, I will not eat my words, I will feast on them. And so will you.
Soon.
Returning home, the sight of a cushion face down on the ground fills me with so much repulsion that I become oblivious to guido, sick and dying guido, panting and heaving at my feet for attention. I think of lesser gods, I think of higher gods, I think of the human chewing gum, I hear their teeth clenching and grinding. See the unintentional side-grin. More than often, the sight of a mere apple is enough to drive any person insane, the existence of that apple that is. Then there s the half-eaten apple, the hideous and tantalizing shape of the bite. Then all the gods that abandoned me squirming and squiggling inside that cushion. I kick it past the hallway and smile to myself. Guido stutters half-way towards then turns back. I am his lesser god, I am my even lesser god. For today, I m the one who s going to abandon all of them. I see the sitter curled up on the couch, he doesn t even know I ve returned. Who knows that I ve returned? Did I even leave? Only guido. Only the sick and dying. Only they know I ve returned, only they know I never left. I miss my son. "Don t ever tell anyone anything. If you do, you start missing everyone," as Holden says. Have I ever told anyone anything, have I ever told you, reader, anything? It's impossible to tell anyone anything. Between perception and its articulation, the telling hangs, executed, swinging in no place's square. Still, even without telling anyone anything, I miss everyone.
Is it mere ennui or a sense of betrayal? But what was even promised? Birth is the first betrayal. Whoever you are, if you are, why send me here if there's a supposedly better place I'm going to return to, return to you? Why send me here to look for you?
Guido is now circling the cushion, sniffing at it, he lifts his rear left leg. I pull out of the phone from my pocket to take a picture of him. He doesn't finish through, walks away, he spares the gods. In the picture it looks like he is about to, no one can tell if he finished through. If I showed you the picture and told you he didn't spare the gods, you would've believed me. Only I have to live with the knowledge that the gods were spared again. I'm in no such mood. I will finish through. With everything.
John Berryman, Dream Song #14
Life, friends, is boring. We must not say so.
After all, the sky flashes, the great sea yearns,
we ourselves flash and yearn,
and moreover my mother told me as a boy
(repeatingly) 'Ever to confess you re bored
means you have no
Inner Resources.' I conclude now I have no
inner resources, because I am heavy bored.
Peoples bore me,
literature bores me, especially great literature,
Henry bores me, with his plights & gripes
as bad as achilles,
who loves people and valiant art, which bores me.
And the tranquil hills, & gin, look like a drag
and somehow a dog
has taken itself & its tail considerably away
into mountains or sea or sky, leaving
behind: me, wag.
I conclude now I have no inner resources, I only have Firstbase, which I thought were my inner resources. But the Firstbase I have and the Firstbase you have or probabaly no longer have are vastly different. You can ironically "hold" it or drop it at all, I occupy it or it occupies me, depending on which direction the apple is turned.
