amongst ALL of the things we've funded so far, nouns esports has the top position in terms of breaking through to the mainstream in an authentic and inspiring way at a massive scale.
over a million ppl concurrently watching TI where the casters were yelling "nouns! nouns!" with noggles showing up all over the game map was one of the coolest / proudest moments ever. ppl really loving and building an emotional connection with the brand, it representing something different and aspirational (transparent, community and athlete centric esports brand), also just achieving something exceptional (highest ranked NA team in the past 4 years in TI). corporations like shopify spend many millions trying to create something like this and it's incredible we're punching above our weight competing better than those teams with a smaller budget. the combo of it all makes me inspired and feeling that nouns can do much more in this world.
yes the budget concerns are real but A) we could keep funding at the current scale if we massively prioritize nouns esports funding over other things (which I wouldn't rule out given my view above that esports has been the best ROI prop vertical so far), B) it looks like nouns esports team is going to seriously explore different revenue streams like brand partnerships and in-game item sales this year so they might be able to cover a decent chunk of operating expenses themselves next year and thus i don't think now is the time to be overly sensitive to the budget. it's still a tight budget compared to their ambitions is my read.
so so excited for what nouns esports can accomplish next year. go nouns esports! make us proud!
