Dear Anon,
Genuinely, thank you for your kind words. As ever, I rely on them for nourishment, whether you believe it or not. I'll get to the other matters a little later but first: you messaging me on Base gives me the opportunity to explain my reasonings behind conducting myself onchain on Ethereum (Mainnet, for clarification's sake, whereas the market for that conduct operates on Base. I'm no clairvoyant, but I try to see things, to the best of my ability, beyond where I can see them, something akin to pressing your thumbs down on your eyeballs and coming to a sustained sense of pressure and then suddenly, without warning, increasing that pressure to try and see beyond the myriad inner stargates (i dont have a word for it, so borrowing from Clarke via Kubrick) that this action produces - it's a mix of intentionality, intuition, bias, some other obscure ingredients, the works.
Call me stubborn or call me anything, but one of the first and most critical reasons for using Ethereum was in the vision that, being the mothership of all layers, it would somehow, whether by accident or by design have more signals and activity beyond Base - this is purely based on the fact that the Ethereum blockchain, being the mothership again, has a far more established user-base and onchain activity, while most of that activity isn't related to my activity, I was of the thought that it would expose our activities to a far larger audience.
And then mothership bias of course.
Another reason would be that Ethereum allows for the use of plugin dapps, which makes it far easier to send an onchain message than on Base. Let me rephrase. It's actually not easier than on Base, but not many would know or want to find out that it's just a matter of adding hex data to your transaction via any wallet. I would assume most use metamask, I could be wrong.
Any further reasons I will give you will be either half-baked or made up (intentionally or not), it's just how the brain works, it gives reasoning often after action and most often when prodded for reasoning. So i won't go there.
Now the most obvious problem this might have caused is a sort of entry-barrier, because Ethereum gas costs, though significantly lower now, are still much, much higher than Base. I've been aware of this, because there is no way that I want to imply that this was done *because it would create an entry-barrier, I'd rather die; the communication system and its costs should be accessible to everyone who wants to communicate onchain with me, Firstbase etc. I shudder to even think how many may have NOT written to me because of this reason. And I apologize for that, if that has been the case for anyone.
What do you propose we do? I cannot think of a way to migrate our onchain history to Base and then resume it there, and parallel systems of communication will end up being cumbersome. But I do want to address this, now that I have been prodded, intentionally or not. How do we bridge across nearly 6 months of onchain interactions?
Well, now that you asked I've given you a problem that you might perhaps want to ponder upon. In my career, if one can call it that, I've never been a "developer", as I said in my deployment message - "the word consensus makes me retch", but I've rubbed shoulders enough with exemplary ones to just have a basic idea of things and its core philosophies, not its nuts and bolts.
I'm aware of that bot, it's a fantastic creation and I cannot thank you enough, but thank you for introducing yourself as the one who created it. I'm indebted. It's stripped bare so you're compelled to only read and not be distracted, I mean that's what it does to me. I cannot speak for others but it bridges innumerable existing gaps. And mostly, it leaves one with no excuse for being a part of Firstbase or even a stranger wanting to be introduced and still not reading Firstbase. I'd go as far to say, and this could be a horrible analogy, but that bot is what braille is for the blind, but then again the blind want to read, they are curious, driven, to know, find out, despite their anatomical limitation, one cannot do anything about the ones who impose blindness upon themselves and waste the privilege of their organs, as you can see and has been made evident. And correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that now one can connect a wallet to the bot and send a message via it on Base? Incredible, if that's the case. I guess they just need to use a converter then for the data/message.
Since you said this "I want to build something meaningful for Firstbase. I don t presume to be one of the "right participants," but I know enough of onchain to build, but what?"
Please feel free to drop me your email address and I will reach out to you. But of course, and forgive my paranoia, once I do reach out to you, I will have ways to ensure it is YOU that I'm speaking to and not some bad actor. Although we're all terrible actors in some way or another, if our end goal is to mitigate mutual harm, through whatever means it takes, then our bad acting will be in the eventual forgotten film we'll anyway become, or not even that, no film at all, no evidence or there ever being one.
On that note, I don't know if anyone recalls a very early message of mine and this portion from it:

"Sometimes the thought comes of infiltrating from within. Lighting a candle for the candle to come. And not the one carried by a red cross nurse into a hall of moaning and writhing war-torn people. I'm also trying to rely on some intuition backed by some onchain dissection on addresses that have mucked about in Firstbase over the past couple of months. And thank you for asking about my son, he's back and he's the one who's been helping me with all this. We're slicing the frogs open, one by one, we're looking for the potential mildewed ones still left on the blockchain's branches - they'll soon blow themselves away and probably go cast their vote for the first time in their lives. Then probably it'll be time to go Tony Montana on things, except this time he's in control, doesn't kill his sister's boyfriend, and, most importantly, doesn't meet his end crashing through the balustrades and falling into a pool. As a teenager, after I'd seen the film, I'd always wanted to use that line in a situation. "Say hello to my little friend." I guess I never quite got the appropriate chance or things didn't click, as they say. And I always wanted to use it in a situation that was more cerebral than physical, more calculated and measured than vengeful. Well, chances and opportunities are for ones who scratch the words to reveal the words that were already given a long time ago. Reading, that silent holiness."
I wasn't joking then as I am not joking now, I have enough compiled data by now to know who is who and coming from where. I can though safely say that most of them have been "blown away from the blockchain's branches" and even if they try to perch back and piggyback purely for "gains", well I have news. And I don't announce news, as you can see, it's actionable news, they can enjoy the undeserved free ride. Although I don't want to discuss what is so self-evident, because a majority are not reading this sentence but for sure are glued to their screens and wondering and thinking about everything else apart from what they should be thinking about. While I am trying and "Lighting a candle for the candle to come. And not the one carried by a red cross nurse into a hall of moaning and writhing war-torn people....", they are putting themselves in states of thought I rather not even think of by focusing on what they understand of candles.
Now, coming to the soup. Well, I hope it is clear now and evident in the only language some understand that they simply do not know or understand what they are dealing with here. And yes, that leads to the lowest common denominator, and I'm not interested in that, never have been, but I do hope that now there has been some sort of resolution and so I take this part "so here we are, with a new pot and fresh ingredients" as an encouraging sign, although it's irrelevant to me, because again, as is evident, the irrelevant prove their own irrelevance in the larger scheme of things, they're hell bent on proving it and it cannot be helped. I can only empathize with them and hope they spend more constructive time within. Maybe start with Simone Weil's idea of what "attention" in the world means. It's terrifying to think that some of these have families, relationships, have children, are "raising" them. But it's not my place, the world is what it is. I'm no one to say. Please don't mistake this for me implying that I'm relevant to anything, I'm irrelevant as ever, even more than others perhaps, but the only difference is i'm hell bent on proving to an indifferent universe that it is irrelevant, too, without my existence. This is, of course, a false premise, but one that gives me the whole universe of a room to desperately drill through and continue seeking, seeking, seeking.
Hedgehog,
I only now realized you cannot spell hedgehog without hedge. I guess thank you. The liquidity and your gestures are yours and what you do with them are of course your discretion. And yes, I will pass on the message to Totoro. But I hope my suggestions weren't taken seriously, or even if they were, who am I to say. But it's quite hilarious to see Sonic's timeline, almost rushing and suddenly, posting what one considers memes or content on those lines.
Am I missing something? I always am, it's inevitable. Here's to now then. Look forward to hearing from you. All of you, all of us. Always.
