# Happy Nouniversary!
GIM: *Blip Initiating...*\*
FUGU: I love this date, I feel so happy!
SHADI: Yeah, whatever.
SEK: I want to apologize for all the presents. My child tends to be a bit restless and likes to explore other worlds without knowing that he can create hyper cosplays all around. He is getting better at aligning his priorities and organizing his mental structures to keep going forward. I am happy to be here, and I wish a beautiful day to all the inhabitants of the Flexagon.
Batrak: These youngsters get worse every day, I *ribbit* swear it.
TEMIi: Hi there! Hope you are doing incredibly well, y'all! I'm so excited to start making contact soon! Messhup is doing a great job; he's creating something fantastic, hehe.
MESSHUP: Alright guys! Thanks. I'll continue from here.
Sup, Nouns? Hope you are doing well. I would love to tell you all the amazing stories I have so far, but honestly, the best medium is manga. I'm working hard on it, but first, I needed to experience most of the things written down in the story. A bit extreme for some, but I have always loved adventures, and in short, I have been initiated as a shaman—something incredibly important to me since I was 17 or so, and deeply connected to *Hyper Cosplay*. You can ask questions if you want; I'm open to keeping the chat going, but the main point is:
I'm finishing the first volume of a full manga series. I've been working really hard with my editor (who has a lot of work because of my Spanglish, haha) on this and am finally going to wrap up the first volume. I will start conversations with the publisher so we can start the whole printing process and digital distribution in the following months. Remember, publishers are people and not software, and they will take time to review all of this, double-checking grammar and whatnot, possibly reworking things, etc.
I deeply thank you for your patience. This is an incredible work of art for me, and I think many people will love it too. I have done lots of revisions based on professional feedback, and the quality of the manga has scaled up significantly in about a year of deep work. Also, thank you for not suing me or any of that stuff. In order to be really creative, you need time, and I am a very ambitious artist wanting to create something epic, and I feel I am doing exactly that with *Hyper Cosplay*. The quality of the manga will send it to the big leagues, and it will rise by its own merits. It's been quite a ride, not only with my personal drama, but also with the disaster in my home country that sooner or later hit its citizens in a violent way.
I will make another update soon.
I hope all of you are doing great and enjoying this day celebrated by all Nouns around the worlds: Ideas Day.
P.D: Ill send a card soon, see ya ⌐◨-◨

# **Onchain Myth - Update 3.0**
First of all, I wanted to say HAPPY NOUNIVERSARY!!!
I made an artwork to celebrate this special moment, and you can mint it right [**HERE**](https://manifold.xyz/@messhup-6367d0f9/id/4164753648)
I'm starting to use Nouns with the style from my Manga, I hope you like it.

Now, let's talk more about the Hyper Cosplay Manga, aka Onchain Myth.
For this small update, I wanted to talk about several things and present you with some charts and visual examples of the progress I've made so far

## My focus on the deliverables
This is a cast that I made around a month ago for those who didn't see it or didn't pay any attention to it:
I wanted to say thanks one more time to the people who supported me all this time (and Nouns ofc). I know I've been silent for a while, but I'm not the type of guy who works in public (I'm still trying).
I feel I've grown so much as an artist that I didn't notice it until the manga started to be highly personal. I'm not sure if this will be a commercial success, but I'm doing everything in my power to make something epic.
I understood I have an opportunity to make something different, something meaningful, and I was contaminating that opportunity trying to deliver something on time instead of building a high quality artwork. I changed that mindset, knowing that I'm risking my reputation of being an artist who delivers on time. But now I'm focused on delivering greatness, and that takes time (sorry, not sorry).
I'll represent Nouns proudly, but for that, I'm making an epic artwork that requires more time than I thought, so please, be patient 🫡
But Messhup, why don't you share more artworks, more stuff? We want to see that you are working on this instead of just getting tanned on a beautiful Caribbean beach.
Because I'm leaning into the **SURPRISE EFFECT.**

## The current status of the Manga

As you can see in the image above, the quality of the manga has been improving, just trust me, bruh, would ya? I know I haven't shared too much, but I don't want you to see the work in progress because there are a lot of drafts, corrections, etc. I want you to read the final version, aka the end product.
I'll try to explain this in tech lingo:

Imagine I'm building a website as a fullstack dev, I need to work on everything a website has, but it's not just a website; it's a dApp that will be used by imaginary users (characters), and they need to interact with the whole thing. But on top of that, I need to create a special layer so we as humans can watch how they interact with each other, aka the manga.
The "GitHub repo" would look like this:

Idk if that makes sense tbh, but I'm sharing something just so you know I'm trying to tell you that I'm working hard on this, just because you can't see it yet doesn't mean I'm slacking all time.
## Very close to be published
But that doesn't mean I'll publish this next week; it could be another 6 months (even more!). I know, the world is going to end soon, and I need to publish this ASAP so we can rejoice with all Nouns in the afterlife, but, it's getting there, I still have some funding to keep working on this so don't worry, I never rug, I'm working on my cave all the time.

If you have ANY question related to this, feel free to send me a DM or @ me on Discord/Farcaster/X or whatever other platform you can find me.
---
I would really appreciate a follow on X @Messhup + **[Insta](https://www.instagram.com/messhup_/)**, and a sub on **[YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/@messhup)**, I'll keep doing livestreams and uploading content about nouns/hypercosplay in those places.

Thanks for reading ⌐◨-◨
# **Onchain Myth - Update 2.0**

A year ago, I got funded to make HyperCosplay, aka Onchain Myth (prop 423). This year, a lot has happened. I wish most of that would benefit the prop, but I struggled to keep working on it in many ways. My personal life was flipped upside down, and everything was very unstable during a big chunk of this year.
It's not my proudest moment to be here and say that I'm delaying the manga. I'm used to delivering most of my work on time but this is not the case. However, there's more than just apologies, and since everything is stabilizing I can finally share a small update with you guys.
## **Increasing deliverables by 244%.**

Back when I proposed the manga, I thought that 64 pages would be a good length for this, but after working so hard on the concept art, character design, and interacting with these Nouns for more than a year now, 64 pages wasn't enough to tell a cool story, I really want to show a rich and complex world full of amazing stuff in it instead of limiting myself to just 64 pages for the sake of the prop.
In the prop, I mentioned a full manga volume, and they usually have around 180 pages (6 to 9 chapters). I've made lots of revisions, and iterated the story a lot of times just to shape it into a format more appealing to publishers (I have only one in mind, but there are 2 other options just in case).
I estimate that it could take me another 7 months to finish around ~180 pages, have a concrete deal with the publisher, and (hopefully) have the printed copies of the first chapter (or volume) by Nouniversary 2025. Yes, it's taking longer than I planned, but the story is way better now and I deeply believe this can be a contender IP in the manga industry.
## Publishing Options:

To future-proof the publishing process, I'm working with a specific system in mind. For this volume, the chapters will be 23 to 26 pages (9 chapters) which is around 220 pages. That being said, there are two options to publish this:
**Chapter based:** Monthly - Bimonthly.
**Volume based:** One to Two volumes per year.
I'm working hard to get 90% of the volume done by May 2025 (I'm editing chapter 6 as I write this down). This way, in case I can't get a deal with publisher #1 this could be released as a chapter-based publication with publisher #2 and the advantage of having 7 out of 9 chapters done is clear for both options.
**First volume? Does it mean there's more to come?**
Yup, I'm envisioning this as a complete manga series, but the success of the first volume is vital for the series to continue. I already worked a lot on the main plot, subplots, and worldbuilding of this story to just abandon it in the first volume.
But as always, I'm trying to not overpromise, and keep it simple. There's more to come and I'm really excited to keep working on this series, I'm doing my best and I have high expectations about this manga because I want this to be THE leading publication in the Nouniverse.
## Why you slow bruh?
It would be great to have a magic button to push and have everything ready, but that's not the case, I usually go back and forward between sketching the pages, worldbuilding, writing, and making the concept art. Can I make it faster? Of course! but I want to make a high quality product so I can make a respectable homage to the community that trusted in my skills and expand their universe into something not seen before.

☝️ This is an oversimplified graphic showing the creation process of the manga ☝️

As you can imagine, everything has to be done from scratch, and since Nouns have their own universe, technology, and cultures, all of that has to be done in a way that can be differentiated from our world, but relatable enough so people can follow the story without getting lost in weird concepts. Everything is done by hand and unfortunately, that means it takes more time than just writing a cool prompt using AI tools.

These are some of the characters that will appear in the manga (humans won't appear in the first volume but they are here to show the scale).
Oh and if you want to check some of the previous concepts, just go to [Zora](https://zora.co/collect/base:0xbfee5b480a81b8fe3d6ab12a763a81a97f0514f5), I have a sketchbook there that is almost free to collect on Base (gas fees are like 2 cents or so).
## So, when manga?
I'll share some concepts during the next few months, some of them will be onchain so people can collect them as well, but I'm prioritizing the publishing of the first volume of this manga (this time I won't be selfpublishing as my [coloring books](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09RFZLVQ6?binding=paperback&searchxofy=true&ref_=dbs_s_aps_series_rwt_tpbk&qid=1734479503&sr=8-4) since the idea for this artwork is to be widely spread). There are some challenges ahead but hopefully not too big so we can publish this smoothly next year.
Not too much to share after this tbh, so if you haven't seen my previous update, this will be a perfect time to do so. [Update 1.0](https://www.updates.wtf/prop/423)

# **Onchain Myth - Update 1.0**
## **Buckle up because the following is an update filled with broken English.**
I’ve been working on this every single day but unfortunately had several setbacks ~~(*cough* lost a major file and had to make it again *cough*)~~ and that’s why I haven’t posted any updates so far. However, I finally finished some of the visual concepts I needed for the graphic novel.
First of all, I noticed that 64 pages won’t be enough to tell the whole story that I’m working on, but that will be a good start I think. I’m still thinking of dividing the 64 pages into 2 or 3 sections so the people can read them completely and avoid some kind of saturation giving it all at once. Also, I think giving smaller chapters could create more momentum... Let's see.
I also minted a collection on Zora called **[**Hyper Cosplay Sketchbook**](https://zora.co/collect/base:0xbfee5b480a81b8fe3d6ab12a763a81a97f0514f5)**, you can mint each page almost for free, I’ll start minting “pages” there for all of those who want to collect the work in progress and see the visual development of the project. Hopefully one day it can become an art book. Ok, let's begin.

# **Character design**
I could spend years in this stage because I love character design, but I need to move faster this time, heh.
It's interesting to see how the characters have been evolving since the early concepts, mostly because the story is getting more specific and each character's backstory is changing along the way. Some of them are different than the initial style but they keep the same noun head as a concept.
The story's three main characters are **Shady, Puffer, and Neblina** (neh-blee-nah).
Most of my time is spent immersing myself in the lives of these three characters. For now, I have yet to make too much progress on the looks because I have been developing their background. Hence, it’s easier to work on a visual concept in the future, for example, if the character has a scar because they fell as a kid, it’s easier to try different placements or shapes of the scar before is drawn.
I need to test some outfits for Shady because he is shirtless most of the time (?).
Yeah, so, he fights… like, a lot. And that’s the main reason why he pulls off his shirt.
## **Characters**
The concepts I shared in the prop feel different from almost all Nounish artwork out there but I had to go a step further and make them more mature. I love cartoon characters but I mentioned before that I wanted to develop an action-based graphic novel and the style didn’t fit the story in my opinion... Pushing myself to the edge feels good, I think people will like the new concept.
## **Shady**

## **Neblina**

## **Puffer**

## **NounBots**
Some Nouns folk have already seen some NounBots designs, but let's talk briefly about their story.
The human world is filled with bots, they work mainly in dangerous environments. However, some creative people took them and started small tournaments using scrap parts and rebuilding new cybernetic creatures, leaner and with better aesthetics than normal bots (of course, they are using Noun traits as a reference). The tournaments became famous and the NounBots permeated the popular culture as one of the most innovative sports out there. More info coming soon...

# **World Building**
This was the biggest challenge at first because I wanted to use humans and Nouns simultaneously, but they are not part of the same world, so I split their universe into two dimensions: Human world, and Nouns World (yeah... groundbreaking). They have different names but don't want to make spoilers.
This is a concept for the monastery. There are lots of small details that need to be reworked but the overall structure is there, and for better references in the future a rough 3D version would be needed so I can keep the dimensions of the building. This will also apply to other buildings and urban landscapes, but that's ok, I'll make them and share them with the public.

## **Geography**
Nouns are placed in a world very similar to ours, a planet with 4 stations, around a star, and has a satellite. I'm not changing too many rules about climates or geographic features, I'm more interested in the fantastical creatures instead of the mechanics or physics of this world (I know both interact with each other and modify them constantly but let’s keep it simple for now).

## **Buildings and Vehicles**
I’m already working on the buildings, mostly the ones with more relevance to the first chapters, but I think I need to focus more on the city and urban life, it's a bit tricky because this blends with Culture and History.
Vehicles are next on the to-do list because I’m still figuring out the best solution for vehicles, and need to place them in a specific timeframe. Usually, vehicles reflect the tech level of society and their current aesthetic values. Plus, I'm still focused on the places first since there are not too many scenes inside vehicles for now but I reckon that vehicles around the streets make more believable scenes.

## **Technology**
Nouns are way ahead of us in the technological aspect, fantasy will play a huge role here and I’m trying my best to keep a non-distributed tech society, similar to what we humans have right now (some places are more developed than others and such). However, I haven’t figured out all the details and intricacies of their technological advancements, because I usually write something like: Puffer gave Shady a bag-shaped device. This means that lots of small items are still yet paused for now, but they are coming!!!

## **Culture and History**
This is a big one, I don’t think I’ll finish this section, at least not this year tbh, but I will build a solid foundation for this… I would say is a mix of a Western (European) society from the 20th Century with a heavy influence of Asian aesthetics (Mostly Japanese).
This is curious because both are very different, each culture and belief system influences the way they build houses, markets, etc. It will be fun to keep working on this ;)

# **Logic behind the division of traits:**
Nouns have amazing heads (traits) in their collection, and almost all of them are perfect to make a compelling story, however, some funky ones are tricky to include in a realistic society (I know this is fantasy, mkay?), although I like to think they are part of a Sci Fi-fantasy scenario.
Since nouns don't use people in their traits, I had to experiment on the overall story; anthropomorphic animals felt native for this, and since most human cultures have fables about animals who talk and they are common in folk tales, I feel this is a straightforward solution. We are used to seeing nouns with human bodies already as well, so everything flows naturally.
To organize the traits in a coherent way I'm dividing Nouns heads into 6 different sections:
## **Creatures**
The world of Shady is filled with these Nouns, they are usually anthropomorphic animals, and this is what will be useful to create a diverse range of “ethnicities” inside the cities. There are rare exceptions to this but animals have the highest priority to become a Noun.

## **Nature/Organic**
Some of these will become human-like creatures, while others will be included differently.
Right now I feel that plants like Saguaro and Bonsai have a higher chance than fruits like cherry or watermelon. It’s true this is a fantasy world but don’t like the idea of a guy walking down the street with a thumbs-up head… Sounds hilarious I know, won’t make much sense though, but maybe because I haven’t planned a character like that yet.

## **Places**
Places will be extremely useful to use as settings but there won’t be a fence-head guy aside from Shady or something like that, maybe as NounBot...

## **Devices**
Similar to places. With a big difference, most of the manmade Noun heads will be used to develop NounBots (they are part of the human world).

## **Things**
I see lots of NounBots here! They will be really fun to develop.

## **Food (Man-made)**
I separated these from the Nature/Organic for obvious reasons. There are cases like milk carton or cheese, that can be part of the organic category but humans alter them, so they belong here.

***Note: I need to update the noun heads because this is the “canon” set.***

# **Next Steps**
I'm finishing some basic animations of my avatar to start the livestreams with the community. I have a basic version already done but my overthinking mind keeps pushing me away just because I think it's not good enough, however, I'm incredibly behind the curve so fuck it, I'll start livestreams at the end of the month. Wish me luck.

The priority is to share with the community between calls, and even make brainstorming sessions live on YouTube/Discord. One of the goals is to mint one page (sketchbook) per week, as a minimum!
### **Public VS Private**
The idea is to build all of this in public but since this is an ever-evolving project and (in theory) a linear story, I think I can manage that, I still need to design a lot of characters and that will be a great topic for the livestreams!
### **Test Pages!**
I will start to work on the page thumbnails on March 1st, FINALLY!!!
Some will be public, most of them not. But I can share the process of several pages after the first chapter is released so it's safe from spoilers. These thumbnails are tiny sketches to test the flow and pace of the story, making sure each page makes sense and has the right amount of info in it.
### **Moar Character Designs!**
Yup, I need more characters to fill the story, currently, there's the backstory of 9 Nouns and 3 humans, but I need to make more studies and concepts for the other ones. It's time consuming but better to be safe than sorry, I don't want to change any character in the future (maybe outfits but not core features).
The good thing about this is that I can share the transformation of each Noun with the public and hopefully reply to any question they have along the way.
---
***Note:** if I say constantly that something is hard or complex, this means I'm enjoying this A LOT! and have no better words to describe all the tiny details I see in each moving part of this project. This is like a giant puzzle for me, I just need to figure out the best solutions to develop all these details. I'm having such a great time nerding out and exploring this world. I would love to show that publicly sometimes, but it's just me, reading or drawing quietly, it's not that glamorous tbh, but I love it!*
**That's it, thanks so much for reading, if you have any feedback feel free to reach out on [Farcaster](https://warpcast.com/messhup), [Twitter](https://twitter.com/messhup) or Discord. Have a good one!**
# Onchain Myth - Updated.
## **TL;DR:**
I'm creating a graphic novel for readers who like sci-fi, and fantasy, integrating blockchain concepts and Nouns in a web3 world. Distribution will be digital and physical. The project development will be shared through videos, live streams, and Open Editions, aiming for completion in 10-12 months.
---
**UPDATE:**
After some feedback I reduced the amount needed to execute this prop, just keeping strictly the necessary to make the graphic novel a reality and distribute it using the same methods. I have decreased the budget by 33%, going from 90 to 60 ETH, and swapped it to USDC.
**About Noun 81:** I'm not including a txn to transfer the Noun inside the proposal.
Prof Werder is making a prop for that ([#421](https://nouns.wtf/vote/421)), I know it's a bit confusing, and it wasn't planned, but basically, if her prop passes I won't need an extra step to transfer the Noun, if not, I'll make a second prop to transfer the Noun to one of my wallets.
---
## **A Graphic Novel (Vol 1)**.

*Draft Cover/Poster*
I’m targeting Graphic Novel readers (15+) who love both sci-fi and fantasy + adventure, usually read action-packed stories, but also love tech, and (included but not limited) are crypto users. The artwork will include concepts related to decentralization, blockchain, and internet technologies, and Nouns will be the characters that inhabit this universe.
I firmly believe that we can find the right audience in Web3 at first, it’s an amazing niche to build a tech-oriented story and ultimately an onchain mythology, in which Nouns could be not only at the core of it but represent great values and a positive-sum culture.
To me, nouns are not only pixel characters, but something more, they are storytelling vehicles full of potential. And at the same time, there are dozens of small elements in our community lore to include in the story.
---
## **Evolution of the Nouns aesthetics (from my POV):**
We all love the original Nouns, they are perfect as the source material, but they are also really adaptable to using them in different styles.

*The last two images are from April-June 2022.*
In this world-building adventure, I've given the term "Noun" a fresh perspective, digging into its meaning both on the surface and at a deeper, symbolic level. This project isn't just about testing how Nouns look; it's also about spinning an engaging tale. We want to hook current Noun fans and introduce new readers to our world, even if they're not blockchain or DAO experts.
---
## **Distribution:**

Draft Cover.
**Digital First:**
The main distribution strategy will be online (Free download from the website, manga/comic reader apps like Comixology, Viz Media, Kindle, and P2P/torrents).
Most of the dedicated comic reader apps have more than 500K users minimum, but in the case of bigger apps like Comixology or Viz Media, they have millions of users combined in both the App Store and Google Store.
**Physical:**
Physical copies will be handled through Amazon (highly efficient, global coverage, and no upfront costs). Plus, in case we can make a deal with regional publishers, it's easy to shut down the distribution of a translated version directly on Amazon.
**2 Languages:**
English, Spanish.
Since the previous prop didn't pass I'm just including 2 languages.
Why? Because I'm a native Spanish speaker and I usually make the story, script and most of the other elements in my own language, sure, I can use English to make everything but it's not the same and it's slower for me to work that way.
---
## **Concept Art:**

---
## **Summary of the story (subject to changes):**
Meet Shady, a Noun who doesn't quite fit the mold of an obedient or exemplary citizen in a world teeming with adventurers, mysteries, and high achievers. His existence is a quiet rebellion in a society that prizes conformity. However, it seems destiny, if it exists, has grander designs for Shady. His insatiable curiosity catapults him into the uncharted territories of unexplored worlds.
As Shady embarks on this enigmatic journey, it becomes clear that more than just his life is at stake. The fate of his entire kind rests on his shoulders, and time is of the essence. He's faced with a dilemma: will he seize this opportunity to change the course of history or let it slip through his fingers?
## **Sample Pages**

## **Characters from the first volume:**

**Featuring the NounBots:**

---
## **Building in Public + Key Milestones:**
I’m also building a graphic style to present the development of the project to the public in a more entertaining way using videos and/or live streams. This way people can follow more closely the development of the graphic novel and can ask questions about nouns and their ecosystem.
The goal is to make 2 videos per week, showing the process of the Graphic Novel, the idea is to use Twitch/YouTube, or short format videos like TikTok/Instagram.
I can also use propdates.wtf to show the latest news of the prop and the Manga channel in Farcaster.

*This is a sample of how the videos could look like*.
## **Key Milestones:**
**Concept and Team (Months 1-3):**
Develop the storyline and artistic style.
**Production and Marketing (Months 4-10):**
Create the 64-page graphic novel while making the videos.
Implement marketing and promotion strategies on online platforms.
**Distribution and Launch (Month 11-12):**
Plan and execute the distribution strategy for both digital and physical copies.
Officially launch the graphic novel, including online and potentially in-person events.
**Audience Engagement and Public Building (Ongoing):**
Continuously engage with the community on various platforms, and introduce the videos to make updates about the progress of the Graphic Novel.
**Global Expansion and Future Planning (Ongoing):**
Start the conversations with external publishers to get the graphic novel printed around the globe.
Evaluate the project's performance and plan for the next chapters.
---
## **Scope and Budget**:
Since this is a graphic novel of 64 pages I will need around 10 to 12 months to finish it.
The ideal deadline would be the next Nouniversary and I’ll push myself and the team involved to do so, but I’m organizing the dates including all the team efforts and the standard timeframes to make the deadline more realistic so it could be released in October/November next year.

I have more than 10 years as an illustrator and I feel confident executing this project because I've been preparing this for around a year now, I'm here to stay, I'm aiming high with this prop, and I want to make an epic graphic novel that breaks into the mainstream media. Let's do it together 🔥

**Got Questions?**
I have a separate doc highlighting some of the possible questions I could receive for this prop and will update the doc during the voting period. Feel free to check them out **[HERE](https://hackmd.io/JmagYev8T0Wx06eOe0hCKw)**.
You can also find me on Farcaster, Discord, and Twitter as @Messhup.
Thanks for reading, have a good one ᛉ
Thanks for all the feedback! Hope this version of the prop is more suitable for the DAO ⌐◨-◨

## **Concept Art:**
