In such tragic fashion Okiku eventually became a part of Japanese folklore as an endlessly wandering ghost motived by revenge against those who wronged her during life; also reportedly heard every night counting out her precious plates at 9 o'clock - always stuck on 9 as if seeking resolution for what transpired against her all those years ago. Yet still no real trace has ever been found from where this ill-fated young girl perished below. To this day people tell tales of hearing strange cries or moans echoing in their homes late at night believed by some locals living near Himeji castle to be coming straight from the depths of Hell - perhaps bearing some witness still searching desperately for others attesting towards this poor girl's fate?

Unfortunately, when Satoemon found out that his daughter had asked for help with the article of clothing and that it had gone missing afterwards he became extremely angry. He believed one of his servants must have stolen it as many other items had recently gone missing from his household and demanded that Okiku bring him nine plates on which to count them out - suspecting she had taken or hid them somewhere else because they could not be found otherwise. In order to prove her innocence and loyalty, Okiku proceeded to climb up a nearby well (which was rumored to reach deep down into hell) in search of the lost articles of clothing only never returning from her mysterious journey.

Okiku is a classic Japanese ghost story, first appearing in folklore in the late 1700s. The tale revolves around a young woman named Okiku, who was employed as a servant in the mansion of Aoyama Satoemon, a samurai lord in Himeji. One night, her master's daughter, Umegae-hime, came to her for help with an article of clothing that had been torn. Out of fear that he would be punished for being careless with his possessions and embarrassed by his daughter's lack of sewing skills, she implored Okiku to fix it privately and without the knowledge of her master. Despite the risk to her own safety, Okiku graciously agreed and attempted to mend it without anyone knowing.
