The documentary will take viewers on a journey, starting with the fundamental concept of a pixel and progressing to an intimate look at the artists' daily routines within the Basepaint ecosystem. This will be achieved through a blend of graphics, animations, and live-action footage.
Our primary distribution focus will be on the Base ecosystem and Decentralized Pictures.
We will also submit the documentary to film festivals, targeting 40 of the best-rated festivals globally.
We will leverage Base's extensive reach through their website, newsletter, and social channels to ensure maximum visibility within the community.
The film will also be coined on Zora.
Our ambitious goal is to inspire a significant increase in participation, aiming to 100x the number of artists and 1000x the number of collectors on Basepaint.

# BasePaint Documentary
## Creating a better future for artists. One pixel at a time, onchain, every day, forever.
**TL;DR** Basepaint is a documentary about pixel artists worldwide who have been collaboratively creating a piece of art online and onchain every day for the past year and a half.
The film will explore their personal lives, how Basepaint has transformed them, and how they are part of a growing movement that has the potential to continue indefinitely.
This proposal is for Nouns to co-sponsor the film alongside Base, Decentralized Pictures and Pet3rPan.

🎬 **THE PLAN** We will conduct over 20 online interviews and produce a documentary that tells the Basepaint story.
We will surface the best/more surprising tales, the ones where the artist's life was significantly transformed.
We will then send a local crew to film B-roll and drone shots.
We will take the audience on a journey from "what is a pixel" all the way to the artists' daily routine using graphics and animations combined with live footage.
We want to release the documentary by sending it to 40 of the best-rated film festivals around the globe.
We will also have Base distribution via website, newsletter and socials, and coin the film on Zora.
Our goal is to inspire more people to join the movement and embark on their onchain journey.
We want to 100x the number of artists and 1000x the number of collectors on Basepaint.
And during this whole process, we believe we will bring a new audience to Nouns and onboard a few Nounsfolk.

**TL;DR** On the second episode of the "Behind the noggles" series, discover the fascinating journey of Carella on a mission to connect onchain builders and grants.
From minting the first ever NFT on the Tezos blockchain to gifting Vitalik the first pair of noggles. Bigshot's Golden Noggles.
**Version 2** After reviewing the feedback we would like to address some of the issues.
- First up, is the budget. Roughly a 25% discount.
- Also, I have changed my compensation for 4/5 months of work from 20K to 10K + Treasury Noun 575.
- For the ones interested in film festivals (contrary to the initial feedback on Ben's proposal) we can add 6K USD to the budget in order to have an original soundtrack and submit the doco to 60 film festivals next year.
- Non-Fungible Aotearoa was selected by 7 festivals in total, including a few awards.
- And lastly, to be clear, as much as I absolutely love podcasts, especially the ZEROPOD, these are different products. We have a local film crew with professional 4K cameras and drones to get the best quality footage possible.
- We are not going to Honduras in order to save on budget, but a great lesson from Ben's documentary is that it's too difficult to finish a film with no Broll (The images of Ben other than the interview), hence the local film crew.
- If it were not for Ben's wife, we would not have been able to finish the film, so a cinematographer is a small investment that will **100x the quality** and **10X the speed** of finishing the doco.
- I made a mistake accepting to make Ben's film with no cinematographer on the budget and it cost me a lot of time and money to be able to finish it.
- Documentaries and films are about tinkering with our emotions. You can not do that by having a single scene of a person talking.
- And graphics can only go so far.
- I hope these updates make sense and help the voter understand what we are trying to do.
- And imagine if we make 2 of these per year. In 3 years, if Nouns is a major global brand, we have a series we can pitch to a streaming service and potentially return the investment back to the Treasury (s/o to Dom for the suggestion 🙏).

- Early to Nouns, when he was delegated a Noun, Chris voted on 100% of the props for an entire year.
Later, he was awarded Noun 839 due to unanimous FOR votes on proposal 499.
- Early to Farcaster, he noticed the builder energy in the space and started Purple, the first nounish DAO launched on Zora's Nouns Builder infrastructure with the goal of proliferating and expanding the Farcaster protocol and ecosystem.
- He is also a prolific artist, from his early days working with acrylic on canvas in his Queen's studio to delivering beautiful NFTs to his subscribers on Hypersub.
- He got involved in many DAOs, and became a part of the Optimism Citizens House, FWB, Nouns, Purple, Nouns, Hats Protocol Proto DAO, The Park, Energy, Builder DAO and many others.

# "Carella: Purple" - documentary about Chris Carella - V2
**TL;DR** On the second episode of the "Behind the noggles" series, discover the fascinating journey of Carella on a mission to connect onchain builders and grants.
From minting the first ever NFT on the Tezos blockchain to gifting Vitalik the first pair of noggles. Bigshot's Golden Noggles.
**Version 2** After reviewing the feedback we would like to address some of the issues.
- First up, is the budget. Roughly a 25% discount.
- Also, I have changed my compensation for 4/5 months of work from 20K to 10K + Treasury Noun 575.
- For the ones interested in film festivals (contrary to the initial feedback on Ben's proposal) we can add 6K USD to the budget in order to have an original soundtrack and submit the doco to 60 film festivals next year.
- Non-Fungible Aotearoa was selected by 7 festivals in total, including a few awards.
- And lastly, to be clear, as much as I absolutely love podcasts, especially the ZEROPOD, these are different products. We have a local film crew with professional 4K cameras and drones to get the best quality footage possible.
- We are not going to Honduras in order to save on budget, but a great lesson from Ben's documentary is that it's too difficult to finish a film with no Broll (The images of Ben other than the interview), hence the local film crew.
- If it were not for Ben's wife, we would not have been able to finish the film, so a cinematographer is a small investment that will **100x the quality** and **10X the speed** of finishing the doco.
- I made a mistake accepting to make Ben's film with no cinematographer on the budget and it cost me a lot of time and money to be able to finish it.
- Documentaries and films are about tinkering with our emotions. You can not do that by having a single scene of a person talking.
- And graphics can only go so far.
- I hope these updates make sense and help the voter understand what we are trying to do.
- And imagine if we make 2 of these per year. In 3 years, if Nouns is a major global brand, we have a series we can pitch to a streaming service and potentially return the investment back to the Treasury (s/o to Dom for the suggestion 🙏).

- Early to Farcaster, he noticed the builder energy in the space and started Purple, the first nounish DAO launched on Zora's Nouns Builder infrastructure with the goal of proliferating and expanding the Farcaster protocol and ecosystem.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.
We have adjusted the proposal and I am addressing some of the issues as well as adding a report about Benbodhi: Decoded.
After 1 month of Ben's doco being released, the most important conclusion is that it is a great tool to teach and inspire crypto folks about Nouns.
I always try to get to people outside of crypto, but as it turned out, the people who already get crypto are the ones more likely to get Nouns. It sounds obvious, and it’s true.
And if we think of why we are here in the first place…
I believe that many like me are here because of Ethereum.
And what better Nouns’ story than the one about the Nounish builder that delivered the golden Noggles to Vitalik?

Thank you for your feedback.
I am not sure I understand what you mean, but I think what you are suggesting is very similar to what I was doing with Nouns News.
You can still check it out.
Weekly Zoom interviews with builders.
Cheap, fast and easy. Focused on Youtube.
But this is different.
This is an ambitious project to make a proper documentary that can be sent to film festivals and even streaming services.
The goal is to ultimately win an award.
It is very hard to accomplish, but the only way is to try.
Department of Post is the only facility in NZ that has Netflix certification.
They are able to export a final file that is accepted by film theatres and the major streaming platforms.
Another important aspect is the VFX artist, Foothead.
One of my favourite NZ artists.
I would love to onboard him into Nouns.
He will have 6 weeks to create the "magical" layer on top of the story.
Combine that with a killer soundtrack, and we have a very good mix for a winning format.
The content is up to Ben, the DOP, myself and the Universe.
And yes, this is not the cheapest production.
But in terms of documentary budget and crew, we are actually not a big and expensive production either.
We are a small team, with a big dream.
So I would argue that this is not 50k for one interview but rather 50k for a work of art.
Best case scenario as Rick Rubin puts it, will divide the audience.
Worst case, no one will like it.
That is why I am asking for this opportunity.
Only Nouns can make this happen.
It will be my life's most important work to date.

I would like to point out that the idea of these documentaries is to get them into film festivals and hopefully a streaming platform.
They are not meant for social media.
So, Nouns audience on Twitter is not the goal.
And re the budget.
Yes, it is more expensive to produce documentaries like this than YT videos.
You have things like post production houses and original soundtrack.
But we are actually a low budget documentary.
If you take the average 1.2 million for a full length documentary, at 80 to 90 minutes, a 20 minutes short doco at 49k is not expensive.

But I would like to say that the idea of these documentaries is actually the opposite of niche.
We want to inspire more people to join crypto, NFTs and Nouns.
Our goal is to show how lives can be transformed by Nouns, and hopefully get people interested in learning more about it.
The focus is on the character's journey and not in any technical or crypto specific aspect.
So that it is relatable to everyone.
As in "Meet this lovely person, and his/her family, and learn about their life and how he/she found a new path in life with such an incredible community"

# Proposal completed!
Funds were received yesterday and the proposal was completed today.
Total of 65 submissions.
We missed a few deadlines and were able to add new festivals that were just opening up with cheaper fees.

Budget: US$ 3800 (refundable to the DAO if we are awarded a cash prize)
**The backstory**
Non-fungible Aotearoa is the documentary about Dean Harvey, the pixel artist behind Noun Cats NFT Project.
The focus of the film is to show how NFTs and Nouns DAO are transforming people’s lives in New Zealand.
We believe this was the first short documentary funded by a DAO - Prop 71:

**The season 3 vibes**
We were thrilled to learn about V3 and the new Candidates feature.
The S3 vibe after the fork, especially on Farcaster has been very inspiring.
And similar to the time when we were first funded.
Brennen Peters saw our Discourse post, sponsored our proposal and the community voted to fund the film.
Now, we would like to ask you to help us once again.
This time, the film is ready but we need to get it in front of a larger audience.
**The plan**
Let’s submit the film to 50+ of some of the best film festivals around the world.
Some of these festivals have cash prizes.
If we win, we will refund the investment to Nouns DAO.
**The proliferation**
We will reach out to a new audience, outside of crypto, with a positive message about Nouns and NFTs.
