FOCUS is the second project in my ‘Zenerative’ series of Zen-inspired generative art, following [Ensō](https://www.artblocks.io/project/34). The algorithm can produce interactive pieces that are elegantly minimal as well as artworks featuring complex patterns that explore visual illusions and artificial space. FOCUS outputs span three responsive aspect ratios, each of which have three possibilities for the central shape - or focus. Drawing inspiration from the Zen art tradition of doing more with less, the limited palette consists of black, white, and five colors. This palette both constrains possible outcomes and allows the creation of unique perceptual interactions. Except in extremely rare scenarios, each piece can provide a wide variety of visual experiences through its interactive features: use up and down arrows to adjust the pattern recursion factor, left and right arrows to adjust the midpoint count, ‘h’ to hide or show the central shape, and ‘s’ to save. Six works from the _Placement_ series were on exhibition at the Art Blocks Gallery in Marfa, Texas from May – October, 2022. _Placement_ is a series of 500 artworks that are iteratively generated by an algorithm built by the artist. These hard-edge color-fields are visual representations of the underlying code; their color juxtapositions provoke a long look that goes beyond ‘seeing’. The frame assists in this process as it emphasizes concentration akin to the design of a digital display. The mechanisms of production – code and silkscreen – fade away to present artworks of pure color projected onto a screen or laid on top of paper. In this way, the artist relates the allure of vivid, saturated ink to the mesmerizing glow of a digital display. Cooper is engaged with themes such as digital materiality and the phenomenological.

The Wrapture is a generative edition with unique properties. Technically it is capped at 666 editions, however holders of The Eternal Pump have the opportunity to limit the edition to 50 algorithmic editions if they can cooperate. The rules are fairly simple: as long as no one trades, sells, or lists their edition for sale in the next year, no additional editions will be made available for minting. However, if one collector breaks the rules, the remainder of the 666 editions will be opened up to the public for minting. If no one breaks the rules for one year, the edition will be capped and collectors will be free to “move” the art with no repercussions. You can use the generated images commercially (read the license).
