+1 > Klim is a wonderful contributor to this community, but we simply can't set the precedent that arbitrary self-directed unaccountable spending will be refunded by the DAO (even if it produces good results). > > I would personally support an actual retro funding proposal that focuses exclusively on Klim's contributions (not his expenses) and gifts 3-5 Nouns, as well as cash compensation that offsets the tax obligation.
Share the sentiment around the noggles not really showing that well. Otherwise it's a banger i think, maybe the mouth too is a little off (maybe it should be to the side instead of center? idk)
I fw the vision, Yellow feels like Nouns but upgraded for the modern Base/Farcaster/Zora era - and they have a track record of exceeding expectations. Just on gut feeling the budget does seem kinda high for the various expenses listed but I trust the process.
The justifications to Nouns DAO section are pretty generic and I don't think trad-style sponsorships really have worked for Nouns in the past - this prop doesn't give enough to convince me why this case would be different.
This is quite expensive and yet it's also unclear what the funding for the specific activations at the actual network cities will go towards. As sewerpump said, I would probably want to see a smaller proposal for just one of these, with more detail fleshed out as to what the funding would go towards. As it stands the proposal appears to just fund the team to travel to these cities with a lack of clarity on how value will flow back to Nouns beyond generically showcasing/talking about it.
+1 > consistent value creation, divergent opinions, quality execution. even if swap isn't _the_ thing, the reward is well earned and the positive reinforcement ensures that this team is incentivized to continue to add outsized value in the future with swap or alt ventures > > +1 > > > Personal opinions on swaps should be put aside to recognize that NounSwap is well liked by many looking to get their forever noun. Spencer and Cole are some of the best builders we have who have shown time and time again that they care deeply about nouns and enjoy building here. > > > > 40 ETH feels fair to me considering we [regularly](https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/583) [spend](https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/534) [many](https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/527) [multiples](https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/522) [of] (https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/520) [that] (https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/559) [amount] (https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/573) on events, which we hope will end up netting us new builders or bidders. > > > > If part of the goal is to bring in new builders then I find it silly we choose not to recognize their work when they are earnestly trying to bring value to our community. > > > > Cheers to Spencer and Cole for building great tools, and I hope you all stick around even if this prop does not pass.
I think this is a solid idea on all accounts. We have the following: a) an easier way for individuals to find their "forever noun", that is also less fatiguing for voters and less awkward for proposers. b) a new revenue stream for the DAO Both would benefit the DAO, thanks to the team for the work here.
I ultimately believe this proposal is good. The Park are super nounish, great at executing IRL events, and FWB Fest is one of those crypto culture Schelling points that Nouns can gain a lot by having a presence at, if successful. Chris's testimonial about FWB Fest's impact on Builder also makes me more confident that this is true. For these sorts of things I am not too concerned with the specifics of the budget. It's more of a "grant them $X and let them cook" situation in my head - which I feel comfortable doing.
I think the streets are indexing too hard on principles and potentially trying to extract value via premiums. Nouns is better off if more Nouners hold their ideal (or close to ideal) Nouns.
+1 > i don't agree with the view that spending $2.3M on PH so far was overspending. we're trying to build the best internet scale meme machine. we're trying to convert eth raised to art, software, community, and more. what else besides PH (historically) and rounds (now) is truly attempting to achieve that ambitious goal of building the core grant infra for the internet scale meme machine? we've raised and spent over $50M so far and having spent $2.3M on the best bet that we have on that front doesn't seem like an over investment to me. > > yes the PH team has had challenges. the biggest mistake was probably trying to go full onchain too early. they attempted to use skartnet as a rollup before that ecosystem was fully ready so that took a long long time to launch and then even after launch it had a lot of edge cases (like multisigs etc) that were harder to support and quickly iterate on. the nouns world was also changing faster than they could react (farcaster, base, etc) and ultimately they had to scrap the whole thing. a lot of soli & seneca's time that went into building PH the protocol on starknet was indeed a waste and that's sad but in the category of mistakes trying to go fully permissionless onchain too early is one i'm okay with. they also learned from that HARD and completely pivoted to a nimble farcaster lean-in experiment and iterate mode and in a matter of 6 months or so found the most promising thing we've seen in scaled meme machine funding so far. > > i do hear lilforg's and sqx10's feedback / frustration and others also sharing that PH being sunset is disappointing. the reality on keeping PH alive as i've understand it is that it's hard b/c the permissionless (current) version is the onchain PH protocol version that is unweildy and the permissioned (old) version requires a lot of attention from seneca. we don't want that from seneca. we want him to sprint towards exploring this new product that's seeing signs of PMF. uplink is working on a product that can support the old PH use case it sounds like? that's a better outcome imo. in software it's hard for a different team to pick up someone else's product and iterate on that with passion. > > also on lilfrog's point that rounds is just giving eth to existing large nouns players. i think what really gave me conviction that it's not that was /nouns-animations and /nouns-draws. the ppl posting there and earning there are many net new ppl. i'm seeing a vision of a thing where we can create channels for more contributions we want to incentivize and that creating a virtuous loop. on the /nouns channel i agree it can tend to feel that way. seneca has always excluded himself from the rounds. in the last 2-3 /nouns seneca started excluding me as well and i was supportive of that. maybe some way to scale down eth rewards for ppl with large farcaster followers so that rounds in general doesn't skew too heavily towards favoring ppl with too large followers would be good. > > anyways, i'm just so so encouraged to see something that we've only dreamed of in the early days of nouns showing glimpses of real promise. internet scale meme machine LFG
+1 to all this i do think the name should be changed because unicode makes it hard to search for people logistically. idk what a better name is, but that's not a dealbreaker here +1 > i’m supportive of this being explored in parallel to $nouns > > if i understand correctly the main differences seem to be adding voting power and an ability to wrap any amount of the fungibles to get a “fractional” nft with its own art. so it’s an effort to add voting power and art back into the fungible mix and i think both of those ideas are fair and worth exploring > > the verbs team does intend to add voting power to $nouns implementation but my understanding is that they think adding it after the nft governor would meaningfully reduce the complexity. but i totally understand the feeling that some have that voting power should be a day one item and thus we should explore an implementation that adds it from the get go (fwiw i don’t agree with the view that adding voting power strictly reduces the likelihood sec deems the fungible token a security but that’s a separate sub point) > > i like the effort of trying to add some form of artwork that anyone with any amount of the fungible token can mint for themselves. i think this prop is saying that it would be the same artwork as the noun being deposited or generated randomly similarly to the auction settlement txn generation logic? that could work. but maybe another artwork that is appealing and nounish but still identifiably different might also be a good alternative. i don’t have the best takes here so defer to community artists. > > in sum i’m more on the side that voting and art can be iteratively explored and added later on but i’m happy to see and fund another intuitive that seeks to support a version of both from day one. i also agree with the view of the proposer that multiple implementations of the nouns fungible token could co exist in not only the design phase but the deployed in production phase as well. as long as they are genuinely backed by nouns nfts i’m supportive of treating them mostly interchangeably and users can choose for themselves what form factor they prefer. a decentralized project isn’t as singularly streamlined in its execution compared to more centralized projects but that’s also where the resilience and parallel execution super powers come from so it’s just kind of something we live with and i’m fine if there’s some market confusion initially about how these fungible tokens are similar/different.
+1 > The spirit of this proposal is fantastic and the idea of Nouns taking root in Austin is really exciting. I love the vision of a city DAO model built on Nouns that scales. However, while I genuinely appreciate the good intentions behind this proposal, it feels too unfocused in its current state. > > Because the prop both proposes pivoting ATX DAO to a Nounish model and ALSO presents a wide range of initiatives from murals to merchandise to an eclipse event, it's hard to evaluate which component is most critical and where the funding is going. Relatedly, using the Austin area code as a meme-y number is fun, but Nouns funding should have clear, direct and proportional benefit to the Nouns ecosystem. > > The one aspect of this proposal that really caught my eye is the dynamic auction mechanic. I think this is a fascinating new primitive and would be excited to see it tested out with ATX Nouns to evaluate how it performs. Perhaps a more focused proposal just around this mechanic and the ATX Nouns fork would be compelling as a first step. > > To be clear, I believe strongly in the vision behind this proposal and would love to see Nouns flourish in Austin in a sustainable, high-impact way. I just don't think this proposal in its current form is focused enough or has a clear enough use of funds. I hope to see a V2 that paints a crisp, specific vision for ATX Nouns!
Clear yes, we funded this with the intention of doing the droposal so based on that alone we should follow through with it. Of course, it also looks dope and all parties stand to benefit by bringing it onchain and celebrating 4844. Looking forward to watching it! Thanks to Agora, Stateful Works, and The Line for the work here. Also excited to see droposals coming back.

I feel I need to be logically consistent with previous votes - we should propose to do a new Builders Round instead of individual props for granting Nouns. 100% agree Chris deserves a Noun though.

I'm supportive and appreciative of the work Mucho has done so far, and the impact they've had. I think at this funding ask it's hard for me to say yes though - I'd be comfortable with a smaller, shorter ask to further validate the strategy and impact.

The concept of a Nouns minting economy is fascinating. It's a fairly ambitious bet but if it works out, is a big validation that NFTs can be used for permissionlessly distributing capital to ideas that people resonate with. It's definitely expensive but Wiz is a world-class developer and Nouns thinker. In the current moment that's a pretty rare breed, and warrants the appropriate level of compensation to reflect that. Especially given the ceiling of the idea, which feels (pun intended) unbounded.
