> the forever problem of governance is that high quality governance is hard and painful (a lot of effort, skill, and brain damage involved) and as a result is in short supply.
>
> companies solve this by allowing concentration of ownership and financial outcomes (large shareholders are motivated to elect the right management and go through the brain damage of corporate governance b/c they get the bulk of the financial outcome).
>
> this doesn't quite work for nouns b/c culturally we reject the idea of a single person (or a few people) controlling the nouns treasury spending decision unilaterally and their motivation overwhelmingly being driven by personal financial profit.
>
> that's reasonable imo. we would reject such a thing for our local city governance as well (nouns is more like a city than a company imo). but for city governance there's a degree of civic duty and lock in. when governance devolves too much (SF recently where I live), living conditions becomes unbearable and while many ppl leave (many tech ppl went to miami etc) at some point ppl like garry tan (who grew up on SF) that are never going to leave b/c it's their home and where their livelihood is built just start taking ownership b/c there's no other choice. city revenue is also raised through taxes. dues are collected from everyone and spent for everyone (though applied progressively) and it's forced.
>
> i don't quite know how nouns governance is supposed to work long term. governance is hard and painful. you can't take over enough control of the governance to substantially privatize the financial gain b/c that would nuke the project. ppl aren't locked in and revenue isn't forced. i get why nouns could be a city ppl might love to live in. but would anyone pay to be involved in governance (something that is inherently hard and painful)?
>
> i don't know the answer to this question. but what i do know is that any answer involves creating more leverage to ppl providing the scarce good governance. maybe they like nerding out about nouns. maybe they spent enough years and benefitted from nouns in one way or another and feel a sense of civic duty. maybe they are a nouns business and have some aligned financial incentive even if not a controlling amount. we need to take that which is given to us and SOMEHOW leverage that to govern the whole system effectively. prop house (token voting, gardeners, farcaster likes) attempted that but wasn't enough of an answer on its own. AI seems to be the only plausible new frontier to create leverage. if somehow we can determine who's providing the scarce good governance and train AI models to act on those inputs with infinite patience and attention, then maybe we have a chance. this seems to be where vitalik's thinking is going with regards to open source (public goods) funding as well.
>
> another frontier is to reintroduce market mechanisms to aid portions of the governance decisions ("futarchy" is a buzz word ppl talk about which allows you to buy and sell each prop / governance decision). TCRs? revnets? to be honest i'm generally a bit more skeptical about this direction b/c i don't know if market mechanisms are really well suited for public funding decisions (so many pitfalls) but i do think it's a genuine additional frontier that we admittedly haven't explored much
>
> this ended up being a super long rant but all of this is to say, i don't know the ins and outs of what's going on here but directionally i think it's exploring a super important meta problem of governance for nouns and given there aren't any projects more promising in this realm (and we're lucky to have someone as talented and earnest as rocketman leading it) i just think we need to let him cook

A relatively small ask for a fun project that can potentially drive more interest in a nounish publication. People using their skills to extend and build on the CC0 oevres of previous contributors, that's what the experiment is about for me. > The proposal lacks a clear financial return mechanism and does not provide specific, measurable financial KPIs. While the artists have contributed to the community, the proposal does not demonstrate how this distribution of Nouns will enhance the financial position or brand value of Nouns DAO in a measurable way. The proposal also lacks a detailed budget breakdown and usage plan for the significant expenditure of three Nouns, which is necessary for accountability and financial impact assessment.

Align with this. Mari has been delivering above and beyond ever since her first funding from DCS. (AFAIK she's the only one who Did any Cool Shit.) Her Noggles are far and away the best looking and most comfortable ones available, and every time I've given them away to people, they are always blown away. Yes this is a big ask but most of the costs are hard costs here, and real things that exist in the world have higher hard costs. I think we might be bikeshedding this one just a little bit. There is no ETH ask, this is a proven community of nounish builders asking for a couple nouns to come out of retirement from the treasury to run an experiment... what's the worst that could happen?
And what's the best thing that could happen? I prefer to think optimistically, and support The Park's efforts to bring more musicians onchain via nouns. ⌐◨-◨

> Hell Yes. We should be running a lot more governance experiments.
I wish there were a way that nouns could remain a truly permissionless protocol forever, because for me (like for many) this was one of the aspects of the grand experiment that attracted me here in the first place. But it seems that is an increasingly more naive and untenable position within the present regulatory environment, according to people who are paid a lot of money to be deeply knowledgable about these things. So, the closing of this chapter of nouns is sort of bittersweet for me, but I am still forever bullish on the incredible people who make this community what it is, and excited to see what happens in this next season.
To some of the good folks the DAO may lose on our way to the other side (Paperclip bros, three9s, others), I want to say that I respect and understand your position and please, don't be strangers. <3

I really like this trait, surprised the design is getting so much negative feedback. As 4156 said in his vwr, I think having quirky inanimate objects in the collection is part of what makes nouns interesting and sets the collection apart from every other 10k animal pfp. Anyway, I see this won't like pass but hopefully Amiyoko-san can try another iteration of the art and prop soon.
Fully supportive of Bix swapping a noun she bought for a crown she'll cherish, but just can't get my mind around allowing a month-one noun ID to be swapped for a negligible premium. Maybe the whole provenance-as-value hypothesis never plays out anyway, but no need to make sure that it doesn't with bad onchain precedence. Any other noun or crown gets my vote.
He's cute.
I do echo the feedback left by many that it would be nice to see someone spearhead semi-regular contests for traits to be added to the collection so that they can be judged relatively and compensated fairly, without unnecessary governance fatigue.
More or less my take too. Klim is passionate about nouns and talented at what he does (building toys.) Going forward I would love to see forward funding in tranches for his products and ideas that takes into account the realities of the market for nouns physicals (there isn't much of a market at all for them to be sold, but there is a lot of proliferation value in them being available for other builders and activations to leverage.)
