Voting against. Not because I disagree with the goal, and not because I don't have respect and trust for the proposers, but because I don't that any DAO should stomach moving its entire treasury to the custody of two people.
I’m voting ‘yes,’ because this will end the DAO, and, since I expect ETH to continue its downward trend, at least what’s left in the treasury will go to individuals who’ve contributed to the Ethereum ecosystem with minimal reward, besides social capital and impact. We need to support each other.
# Private Nouns: Repositioning Public Goods for the Sovereign Stack ## Abstract Public Nouns was founded on a simple and effective premise: public goods are underfunded, so let us fork the NounsDAO funding mechanism to raise and direct funds to public goods projects. Over the past three and a half years, Public Nouns has succeeded in this mission, funding over 200k to public goods projects within the Ethereum ecosystem and beyond. But the terrain has shifted, both culturally and technologically. Funding has dried up and the urgency of public goods has increased. We believe the best way to fund real public goods today is to fight for the cultural and market dominance of open source and cypherpunk values. This proposal seeks to deploy the remaining 10 ETH in the Public Nouns treasury toward a strategic modernization of the project in service of that thesis. Our goals are to: - Rebrand from Public Nouns to Private Nouns as a provocation and commitment, marking a transition from open-ended public goods to a tighter thesis around proliferating the full stack of sovereign technologies. - Improve capital inflows by implementing more open-ended funding mechanisms, replacing auction friction with flexible donation infrastructure and proportional governance rights. - Deploy convertible grants that flow back to the treasury if grantees go on to raise further investment — making Private Nouns self-sustaining rather than perpetually dependent on auction revenue. ## Context & Strategy Public Nouns was founded to support public goods in the Ethereum ecosystem. Since its inception, however, the technological, financial, and political terrain surrounding open infrastructure has shifted significantly. The emergence of agentic software systems, widespread data extraction by platform monopolies, and growing public awareness of surveillance capitalism have redefined both the meaning and urgency of "public goods" in digital environments. As Ethereum adoption becomes a given and the agentic web allows unprecedented access to app development, the cypherpunk thesis and the notion of public goods have never been more intertwined than today. Increasingly, open source is synonymous with values like privacy, data ownership, and cognitive sovereignty — against the surveillance, extraction, and algorithmic manipulation of the silicon valley products we call corposlop. ***The best way to fund real public goods is to fight for cultural and market dominance of open source and cypherpunk values.*** As Ethereum becomes a cultural schelling point for full-stack privacy and data sovereignty, our proposed strategy is to send "full stack" grants to organizations and actors across diverse cultural spaces, to be used for the hardware and consultation needed to implement private and data sovereign systems. The initiative would: - Build coalitional connections that position Ethereum as one component within a broader ethical and sovereign technology stack - Introduce new cultural domains to open infrastructure - Expand market awareness and demand for privacy-preserving tools - Create reciprocal flows of attention and capital between external communities and Ethereum-aligned open-source ecosystems ## Proposed Areas of Update Below are some of the modernizations we look to deploy, though exact specifications will naturally follow from a deeply engaged resarch-oriented process. ### Updates to the Brand and Investment Thesis **Rebrand from Public Nouns -> *Private Nouns*** Marks a transition from open-ended public goods to a tighter thesis around cypherpunk values. ***Private Nouns: Supporting Full Stack Sovereignty*** Our continued support for public goods would tighten into a grant thesis wherein public goods are proliferated and defended within cypherpuk values: - individual autonomy - strong privacy through technology - anonymity by default - expressive freedom - distrust of centralized power Further, technology alone does not fix our problems. We need these technologies to be well sustained by prolific usage in order to have well performing and viable alternatives to the corpo and state surveillance systems. So the grant thesis should support builders of open source privacy tech *as well as* supporting cultural frontiers that would expand its usage to diverse communities. Desired proposals along the latter lines would expand the reach of the cypherpunk thesis to unlikely cultural spaces, especially non-web communities newly educated on the ubiquity and danger of corporate surveillance and data extraction. (In our experience, awareness of the problem and enthusiasm for solutions is saturating the culture far and wide.) ### Capital Inflows The auction model creates more friction than value. We will open up new funding mechanisms allowing both small and large capital injections. Donors receive an NFT as tokenized receipt — proof of support, plus access and governance rights proportionate to their contribution. ### Convertible Grants All grants should be viewed as convertible. While ROI is not explicitly expected, if a grantee project goes on to raise further investment, the grant converts into equity or funding rights that flow back to the treasury — sustaining further exploratory grants. This is the model that makes Private Nouns self-sustaining rather than perpetually dependent on auction revenue. ### Governance & Infrastructure All core social infrastructure remains the same. Current Public Noun holders retain their community access and governance rights. Future Private Noun holders receive governance proportionate to their donation. Our research process will uncover exactly how this is accomplished, and we'll outline the exact process before implementation. We will ensure any needed contract updates are handled as well and validated by third parties before deployment. ### Artwork New artwork shifts focus from specific organizations (whose missions may drift) to the permanent, unchanging values themselves. Holding and displaying a Private Noun signals support of these core values. ### Technical Privacy Can private nouns be held privately, only verified through zero knowledge proof of holding? Can we implement private voting, allowing signal to propagate free of coercion? ## Who Would Private Nouns Attract? Individuals and organizations with a vested interest in the widespread cultural adoption of cypherpunk-certified technologies will recognize that this initiative optimizes around a funding model that also functions as coalitional development and a go-to-market service for the industry. For orgs and individuals, support for PN can provide an answer to those asking the question: *what have you done for the cypherpunk movement today?* ## The Ask 10 ETH from the Public Nouns treasury, deployed toward researching, developing and implementing a full plan of active modernization — beginning with the rebrand, capital inflow mechanisms, and an initial campaign outreach to attract new funders and grantees in line with the updated thesis. ## The Team This proposal will be executed by the Open Machine, in collaboration with the Public Nouns community and Raid Guild for technical support. The Open Machine is a cultural research studio founded by Ven Gist (original cofounder of public nouns) and Exeunt (event organizer and researcher involved with the Ethereum Localism movement). # Public Goods Tooling Development Round - Retro Funding ## **Abstract** We're requesting **2.5 ETH** to fund the Retro Rewards pool for the GG24 Public Goods Tooling Development Round, scheduled for allocation in **early February 2026\.** This round has already successfully **deployed $81,800 across 13 projects** building critical Ethereum public goods infrastructure. This funding will reward the strongest performers based on demonstrated impact, creating a powerful incentive for builders to continue investing in the tools our ecosystem depends on. ## **Proven Success** The Public Goods Tooling Development Round launched in October with a clear thesis: if we want public goods to thrive, we need to invest in the meta-layer. Capital formation tools, governance primitives, identity systems, and impact measurement infrastructure that communities depend on to fund and coordinate their work. The round attracted **43 proposals** from across the ecosystem. Using conviction voting, we've allocated funding to **13 projects** tackling critical infrastructure needs. These aren't speculative bets. They're teams building live integrations with shared primitives like **EAS**, **Hypercerts**, **Safe**, and **Karma GAP**. Projects are shipping composable infrastructure that other projects can build on: * **Silvi** (allocation $100k+ in global reforestation campaigns) * **TrustGraph** (building bidirectional trust signals for Safe and Gardens). * **EcoCerts** (creating strong impact certificates for ecological action) * **Regen Atlas** (building a coherent model to navigate the regenerative space) What makes this cohort special is the density of collaboration. Nearly every funded project integrates with multiple ecosystem protocols, creating network effects that compound impact far beyond individual tools. We're seeing novel **interoperability patterns emerge**, **embedded attestation workflows**, **cross-chain governance primitives**, and s**hared impact measurement standards** that become queryable infrastructure for the entire ecosystem. ## **How Retro Works** Retro funding flips the traditional grant model. Instead of paying for promises, we're rewarding demonstrated outcomes. The 13 funded projects are now in execution mode, building toward their January 27 impact reporting deadline. They're shipping live integrations, generating adoption metrics, and documenting their work using the [**Common Impact Data Standard framework**](https://www.commonapproach.org/common-impact-data-standard/). Our evaluation council, domain experts from protocol teams, funding operations, and ecosystem building will review impact reports against a clear rubric: * live integrations (30%) * usage and adoption (30%) * peer evaluations (20%) * documentation quality (10%) * sustainability (10%). This creates a powerful flywheel. Builders who ship meaningful work get rewarded. Those rewards attract stronger teams to future rounds. The ecosystem gets better tools, and public goods communities get more reliable infrastructure to fund their work. ## **Funded Projects** **Growth Pool Projects** ($70,800 allocated) * [Giveth as a Base Mini App](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 10,900 DAI * [Gas Killer: Super Scaling Ethereum Computation](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 10,000 DAI * [The Commons: A Builder Residency \+ Pop-Up Cities Platform](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 9,900 DAI * [Silvi SDK: Open and Permissionless Reforestation Infrastructure](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 13,000 DAI * [Solidarity Fund](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 7,000 DAI * [TrustGraph: An Interoperable Trust Layer For Ethereum](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 7,000 DAI * [Enhancing Ecocerts: From Creation to Cross-Chain Funding](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 7,000 DAI * [The Regen Atlas \- Actions View](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 6,000 DAI **Pilot Pool Projects** ($13,000 allocated) * [Funding Readiness Framework by CARBON Copy](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 3,500 DAI * [Relay Funder \- Aid to Refugee Communities](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 3,000 DAI * [Impact Cards \- Interoperable, Attested](https://app.gardens.fund/gardens/10/0xda10009cbd5d07dd0cecc66161fc93d7c9000da1/0xd95bf6da95c77466674bd1210e77a23492f6eef9) \- 2,500 DAI * [Taiwan Hypercerts Dashboard \- See the act. # Replenishing Public Nouns Treasury through the B<>rder/ess Builders' OP [![photo-2025-09-24-08-33-01.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/Fzvgny9j/photo-2025-09-24-08-33-01.jpg)](https://postimg.cc/Pp6wC8vx) **INTRODUCTION** B<>rder/ess is a Public Good building the next generation of Web3 talent from today's universities. We raise the next generation of: - Builders and Founders - Developers - Web3 Creatives and Story Tellers - Web3 Contributors to Public Goods who build value, products, and communities to promote the sustainability of Ethereum in our local communities. We build **web3 physical hubs**, **web3 campus tech clubs**, and **learning tools** that help students become Ethereum builders through builder development and real-world projects. **Since 2022, we've:** - Established Physical Web3 hubs at Nigerian universities for learning and innovation, one in the [University of Nigeria and another in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State](https://borderlessbuild.dev/clubs-and-hubs) - Created [14+ campus tech clubs](https://borderlessbuild.dev/clubs-and-hubs) for peer developer growth. - [Run 20+ Cipher Sessions and hackathons, onboarding](https://mirror.xyz/karlagod.eth/nVxg3z3Uk3N756UFdfydoyj21NCPBaZWpaHRuT9QTQI) 300+ developers into Web3 ecosystems like Lisk OPstack, Arbitrum, Base, Celo, and Filecoin. - Reached 8,000+ students through educational programs. - Raised funding for [50+ university projects with $33K during GG23](https://gov.gitcoin.co/t/web3-for-universities-community-round-full-round-report/20351) for web3 For Universities initiatives. - Launched tools like ByteOnchain.xyz using attestations for Web3 education and credentials. We treat builder growth as a public good, whether it’s a **Developer**, **Entrepreneur**, **Creator**, or **Contributor**: all our resources are freely accessible, forkable, and improvable, multiplying builder value across Ethereum. **Relevant Links To Our Updated Impact Reports** [2024](https://mirror.xyz/karlagod.eth/-CTCNFmRvWXFNJ_SRb3XudTPUc6rV1Cf1cwzY1PlH-k) [1st Half of 2025](https://giveth.io/project/brderess-builders?tab=updates#:~:text=B%3C%3ERDER/ESS%20IMPACT%20REPORTS%20JANUARY%20%2D%20MAY%202025) **PROJECT DESCRIPTION - THE PUBLIC GOODS BUILDERS OP** [![B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png](https://i.postimg.cc/7PmbG3F4/B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png)](https://postimg.cc/Z0vJXdYs) Most ecosystems offer incubation programs for startups, but there's no dedicated framework for Public Goods or first-time builders entering Ethereum. Many early founders struggle not from weak ideas, but from lacking essential skills in sales, marketing, team structure, financial management, and other areas, including resilience. For Ethereum to scale sustainably, the ecosystem must nurture its young builder pipeline, helping contributors move from learning to building, and from concepts to products with real adoption. The Public Goods Builders OP addresses this need by providing a structured pathway for new founders to launch meaningful projects and directly connect their growth to measurable ecosystem impact. **About the Public Goods Builders OP** [![B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png](https://i.postimg.cc/SKkpf59t/B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png)](https://postimg.cc/4YLMJWBz) The Public Goods Builders OP is a bi-monthly incubation program designed for first-time founders, student entrepreneurs, and indie developers who want to take their ideas on-chain and build value as entrepreneurs. Since traditional incubators focus on seasoned founders, this program is the first incubation model for Public Goods, equipping new builders with the technical, marketing, and business support they need to succeed. **Each cohort helps projects across four key areas:** - *Public Goods:* Open, community-driven solutions that strengthen Ethereum. - *Profit-Sustaining Products:* Ventures with sustainable business models. - *Impact-Based Innovations:* Social, economic, or environmental solutions. - *Regenerative Projects:* Initiatives that replenish and create lasting positive cycles. Our goal is to help builders go from **Concept → MVP → Product-Market Fit → Go-To-Market with 100–1,000 active users per project**, and the program will leverage the resources that the Physical B<>rder/ess web3 Hubs provide. **The Target Audience** 1. First-time builders: individuals launching their very first on-chain project. 2. Student builders: university and early-career talents experimenting with public goods and Web3 entrepreneurship. 3. Emerging developers: technical contributors transitioning from coding to full product-building for the first time. **PUBLIC NOUNS TREASURY REPLENISHMENT STRATEGY** [![Treasury-Replenishment-Strategy-Sustainable-Builder-Flywheel-visual-selection.png](https://i.postimg.cc/Px8YTHjv/Treasury-Replenishment-Strategy-Sustainable-Builder-Flywheel-visual-selection.png)](https://postimg.cc/R64NLjqv) The Builders’ OP not only funds early builders but also creates a regenerative cycle in which successful projects contribute back to the Public Nouns DAO, sustaining future funding rounds and experiments. *It would have some housekeeping, like:* **Builder Agreements** - selected builders would commit to contribute a small percentage of their revenues, token allocations, or grant inflows back to the Public Nouns Treasury as they grow and succeed. **Revenue Sharing** - as a builder’s project becomes profitable and secures external funding, builders will donate a small percentage of the revenue or capital raised to pNoun treasury. This creates a sustainable loop; the DAO becomes both a catalyst and a stakeholder in future success stories. **Buyback & Treasury Growth** - Projects may choose to buy back pNouns NFTs or deposit directly into the DAO treasury as a sign of alignment and appreciation. **Measured Transparency** - Using on-chain tracking and attestations, the Builders’ OP can transparently display returns from successful projects. **Long-Term Impact** - Over multiple cohorts, Public Nouns would have developed a portfolio of graduated builders and a pipeline of sustainable contributors who amplify treasury value through revenue-generating projects and measurable financial inflows. **Example Scenario** [![Treasury-Replenishment-Strategy-Sustainable-Builder-Flywheel-visual-selection-2.png](https://i.postimg.cc/3wjWBwYs/Treasury-Replenishment-Strategy-Sustainable-Builder-Flywheel-visual-selection-2.png)](https://postimg.cc/VS6YsmSg) If 10 early builders graduate from the Builders’ OP and just 3–4 of them turn into revenue-generating products or receive large ecosystem grants: - And *hypothetically,* each contributes a small 2–5% return from revenues, raises, or grants. - Collectively, this could generate recurring inflows to the DAO treasury, a model of Revenue-Generating Projects funding public goods. **THE PUBLIC GOOD’S BUILDERS' OP PROCESS** [![B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png](https://i.postimg.cc/CxdvT4g5/B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png)](https://postimg.cc/4YkvpVnR) **Stage 1: Support Team Formation** We've created a dedicated support team focused on three critical areas of builder success for any product being developed in 2025: *Technical Support –* Covering the full product lifecycle, including product design, smart contract development, front-end engineering, and data analytics. *Content & Marketing –* Providing storytelling, branding, community engagement, and growth marketing to help projects reach and retain their audiences. *Business Development –* Guiding founders on product-market fit, partnerships, fundraising strategies, and long-term sustainability. **Stage 2: Builder onboarding and Idea Selection** Entrepreneurs and developers apply with their public goods, impact-driven, profit-sustaining, or regenerative ideas. Selected builders are accepted into the program and taken through an idea validation process. Using a lean experimentation approach, ideas are tested and validated through customer interviews, market research, and data-driven questioning. Final selections are made based on the evidence gathered, ensuring only the most viable and impactful ideas move forward. This de-risks projects at the earliest stage, we not only save founders from pursuing unsustainable directions but also give funders confidence that resources are being channelled into solutions with the highest chance of real-world adoption and long-term impact. ***(2 weeks) The Lean Experiment Approach:*** At the idea stage, every builder is guided to test assumptions quickly and cheaply before building, following four key steps: *Identify Assumptions -* Builders list the riskiest assumptions behind their idea, like this impact tool is needed, or users will pay for this function, or there’s nothing like this yet in web3 *Design Experiments -* For each assumption, builders design a small, fast experiment to validate the idea or ask questions. *Collect Data -* Run the experiments with potential users through customer interviews, surveys, early demos, or pilot campaigns to gather evidence. *Decide:* Pivot, Persevere, or Drop - If the data validates it, then build; if not, then pivot. **Stage 3: Incubation Sprint** The incubation sprint comprises a 3-week session where builders are taken through sessions on; - Product - Impact Design - Web3 Business Structure and Leadership - Marketing and Building in Public - Finance management and structure for startups - Grants writing & Co-ordination for sustainability Key Focus for the sprint is; 1. Build, test, and deploy on-chain MVPs. 2. Design Co-ordination and operations for sustainability 3. Develop a go-to-market strategy. 4. Align on adoption targets. **Stage 4: Marketing Sprint and Evaluation** The marketing sprint is a 3-week adoption challenge designed to help Builders activate 100–1,000 real users during the sprint. Adoption is tracked through wallets, attestations, transactions, or active dApp usage, allowing projects to move beyond MVP and achieve real-world traction. *After the Sprint;* Founders present their projects to the community and evaluators. Success is measured by: - Product readiness (on-chain deployment). - Adoption metrics achieved. - Sustainability and impact potential. **Final Stage: Rewards & Continuity** Prizes awarded to projects that meet or exceed adoption milestones, and high-performing teams are fast-tracked into: *Partnership opportunities.* - Hand-holding through applying to Public Goods Funding rounds (Gitcoin, Giveth, Octant, and other ecosystem grants). - Handholding through builder programs like Buildathons, Ethereum Fellowship, Incubase, and more. - Content / Marketing boost for 1 month. **BUDGET AND ALLOCATION STRUCTURE** [![B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png](https://i.postimg.cc/wxffWrCG/B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png)](https://postimg.cc/14FrXv5G) **Program Coordination & Operations – 20%** This encompasses administration, program management, mentor coordination, and logistics for bimonthly cohorts, ensuring the smooth operation of the program and maintaining reporting accountability. **Builder Support Teams – 45%** *Technical Support (15%):* Product design, smart contracts, front-end dev, and data analytics. *Content & Marketing (15%):* Branding, storytelling, community building, and growth campaigns. *Business Development (15%):* Product-market fit guidance, partnerships, fundraising strategies, community nd team building, monitoring and evaluation. **Adoption Sprint Prize Pool – 30%** - Incentives for builders who successfully onboard 100–1,000 users. - Structured as milestone-based disbursements tied to verifiable adoption metrics. **Contingency / Buffer – 5%** Reserved for unexpected costs or scaling opportunities during the OP. *Budget Summary:* - Coordination & Ops – 20% - Builder Support Teams – 45% - Prize Pool – 30% - Contingency – 5% **EXPECTED OUTCOMES and IMPACT** [![B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png](https://i.postimg.cc/RZXTgsbJ/B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png)](https://postimg.cc/G4TY2QRb) **Outcomes and KPIs** We have 3 main expected outcomes and the following KPI’s for the Public Goods Builders OP; *1. Experimentation:* Increased Public Goods experimentation and sustainability. *2. Builders:* Steady flow of first-time builders growing into productive founders *3. Users:* Tangible user growth tied to funded projects (wallets, attestations, deployed dApps, contributors). *Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)* *Builder Pipeline:* No of founders/developers incubated per cohort. *Retention:* % of builders still active after 6 months. *Adoption:* Average No of users per project (target: 100–1,000+). *Outputs:* No of new tools, dApps, products launched. *Public Goods Impact:* No of projects aligning with non-rivalrous and open-source principles. *Ecosystem Growth:* On-chain attestations, wallet activity, community contributors engaged. **Impact** I. Greater resilience for the Ethereum ecosystem through retained, collaborative builder communities in 2025. II. Reduced reliance on trial-and-error, equipping new builders with structured pathways to success. III. Faster time-to-launch for sustainable and impactful projects. **HOW DOES THIS INITIATIVE SUPPORT PUBLIC GOODS?** [![B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png](https://i.postimg.cc/N08b1Gqb/B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png)](https://postimg.cc/rdmSTkpt) Public Goods Builders OP strengthens Ethereum's public goods ecosystem by: Nurturing first-time founders who otherwise lack access to incubation and funding and reducing builder development growth from trial by error to “first-take”, “first-success”, failure is good, but time wasting is worse. **If it takes two failures to learn, then it shouldn’t have to take ten failures.** What we’re trying to do is reduce the number of failures and mistakes to accelerate builder growth and build the sustainability of builders in the next generation for Ethereum. 1. Sharing non-rivalrous knowledge covering sales, coordination, resilience, and financial management that builders apply across multiple projects. 2. Developing open-source products, attestations, and tools that benefit the broader ecosystem. 3. Cultivating collaborative builder communities that enhance Ethereum's resilience. This program ensures public goods aren't only funded but also actively incubated into practical, usable products. WHY DOES IT NEED FUNDING RIGHT NOW? Ethereum is at a stage in 2025 where: - The builder pipeline is thin; most incubators focus on seasoned founders, leaving first-time builders underserved. - Without structured guidance, many young founders waste resources through trial-and-error and ultimately abandon their projects. - Public goods face a market gap: promising ideas fail during execution due to inadequate support systems. [Read my Sense Making Report on Builder Development as Ethereum’s biggest problems](https://gov.gitcoin.co/t/gitcoin-sensemaking-report-builder-development-as-ethereum-s-most-meaningful-problem/21677) Funding this now, ensures the next generation of builders enters the ecosystem with proper structure, mentorship, and adoption-driven goals, preventing this gap from widening further. HOW IS IT NON-RIVALROUS? The knowledge, resources, and support structures shared in the Public Goods Builders OP can be used by one builder without reducing access for another. Every cohort creates learning materials, case studies, and open tools that remain freely available for future builders and ecosystems. HOW IS IT NON-EXCLUDABLE? Participation in the program and its outputs are not limited to one group knowledge, skills, and tools are shared openly with the Ethereum ecosystem. Whether or not a builder was in the program, they can still access reports, tools, playbooks, and open-source code that come from it. **5 REASONS TO VOTE YES FOR THIS PROPOSAL** *1. First-time Builder Focus:* It’s the only incubation program targeting new founders and student builders. *2. Replenishes the Public Nouns DAO in the long run:* Creates a direct connection between successful products in the Builders' Op and Eth Deposits or pNoun sales for the treasury. *3. # Innovative Funding Rounds - Gitcoin Grants Season 24 ### Abstract The Gitcoin Grants 24 (GG24) grant season is quickly approaching. We propose funding two innovative rounds this season: Bioregional Reforestation and Public Goods (PG) Tooling Development. The Bioregional Reforestation funding round is an experiment that uses tooling built by Silvi Protocol that funds bioregional funding pools that can be unlocked by local reforestation efforts using smart contract escrow accounts, EAS for MRV, AI for tree selection and Hypercerts impact certificates. The PG Tooling Development round funds open‑source public goods tooling that measurably increases interoperability, raises product maturity, resolves critical Ethereum UX pain points, and forges cross‑project collaborations and is distributed using conviction voting and retro rewards. These funding initiatives are aligned with Public Nouns' mission to support public goods through experimentation, advocacy and funding. ### How does this initiative support Public Goods? **Bioregional Reforestation:** Reforestation and biodiversity are two of humanity and the planet's most important public goods. Our existence depends on trees and the ecosystems they support. Trees are non-excludable, as we all benefit from clean air and many other benefits of healthy ecosystems. They are also non-rivalrous, as everyone on the planet can use the benefits. **PG Tooling Development:** In order to effectively fund public goods, we depend on a stack that’s well-built and actively maintained which includes capital formation, capital allocation, reputation, and impact reporting. This round will identify critical infrastructure in these domains and work towards improving them and solving the greatest problems that communities and projects face when funding shared wealth. ### Why does it need funding right now? Both of these rounds will kick off in October during the GG24 season. Both rounds have already received support from a diverse set of funders. This proposal is an opportunity to allocate 5 ETH that will be matched by over $240k of funding from other sources. This funding will help the round operators lock in this additional funding from Gitcoin. By funding these initiatives now, these experiments will be able to meet their funding goals to make a huge impact. Funding reforestation is needed now more than ever as we face planetary collapse. ### Impact/Deliverables **Bioregional Reforestation:** - Funding for nine bioregions globally, which will be tracked using the following metrics: - Trees planted - Trees survived - $ Flowed - Stewards onboarded - Publish a report about the impact generated at the end of the pilot Public Nouns highlighted as a funding partner **PG Tooling Development:** Funding for the round will be distributed in 2 tracks, with an additional Retro funding round distributed post-project bonus for both tracks: - Pilot Pool: funding for new ideas / new builders working on early stage concepts - $1-5k funding - Targeting 5-10 funded proposals - Growth Pool: funding for critical infrastructure projects - $5-20k funding - Targeting 5-10 funded proposals Proposals will include their own impact metrics and reporting on how to measure success, which will be used to determine the retroactive funding distribution. ### Recipient Address - Bioregional Reforestation - 2.5 ETH - 0xDEC7941AD43BBDa5234e8b785328160788A0f3CF - PG Tooling - 2.5 ETH - 0x69A525d63B7f1490B3E6D0BB1d9B4556138b0B58 ### Amount in ETH 5 ETH

# B<>RDER/ESS <> PUBLIC NOUNS: A PUBLIC GOODS BUILDERS OP [![photo-2025-09-24-08-33-01.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/Fzvgny9j/photo-2025-09-24-08-33-01.jpg)](https://postimg.cc/Pp6wC8vx) **INTRODUCTION** B<>rder/ess is a Public Good building the next generation of Web3 talent from today's universities. We raise the next generation of: - Builders and Founders - Smart Contract Developers - On-chain analysts - Cybersecurity experts - Product Designers - Web3 Creatives and Story Tellers - Web3 Contributors who build value, products, and communities to promote the sustainability of Ethereum in our local communities. *2. Public Goods Pipeline:* Directly incubates Ethereum-aligned public goods projects. *3. Proven Track Record:* B<>rder/ess has already built physical web3 hubs, launched byteonchain.xyz, trained 300+ devs, and raised/funded 50+ student projects in Gitcoin rounds. *4. Adoption-driven Model:* Success is tied to 100–1,000 real users, ensuring measurable impact. *5. Alignment with Public Nouns:* Supports experimentation, advocacy, and funding of public goods in practice. **FEEDBACK LOOP** [![B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png](https://i.postimg.cc/HnMryxFX/B-rder-ess-Builders-OP-Incubating-the-Next-Generation-of-Public-Goods-Builders-visual-selection.png)](https://postimg.cc/jnsqVsxS) *Adoption Metrics:* Wallets, attestations, transactions, and active contributors per project. *Retention Metrics:* % of builders active after 6 months. *Outputs:* Number of new dApps, tools, and public goods launched. *Community Reports:* Open reports and storytelling pieces are published after every cohort for transparency and replication. **GRANT RATIONALE (PUBLIC NOUNS MANIFESTO ALIGNMENT)** The mission of Public Nouns DAO is to support public goods through: *Experimentation:* Public Goods Builders OP is an experiment in creating the first incubation program for public goods builders, not just startups. *Advocacy:* We’re showcasing the stories of first-time founders, students, and impact-driven projects, raising awareness of why public goods matter and how new builders can contribute. *Funding:* Direct support enables founders to test, build, and deploy public goods projects with measurable adoption goals, ensuring funding turns into results. # Comprehensive Report on Public Good Initiatives Funded by Public Nouns ## Abstract CARBON Copy is a platform that shares news, stories, research, and reports about Web3 projects focused on ReFi and public goods. Our goal is to make these initiatives more visible and trusted, both for crypto users and the wider public. We truly believe Web3 has huge potential to drive positive environmental and social change from the ground up, and the projects leading this work deserve to be recognized and supported. The Public Nouns DAO is an ongoing effort to continuously fund public goods. Every 12 hours, it auctions a new NFT and uses the money to support proposals chosen by the community. So far, over 60 projects have received funding, but information about these projects is scattered across forums and social media, and existing summaries aren't very easy to use. To solve this problem, we're asking Public Nouns for 5 ETH in funding. We will use this to create a comprehensive, community-focused report that documents every public good project the DAO has funded. This report will feature clear summaries, interviews with project founders, and analyses of their impact. We'll present it in a way that's informative, accessible, and engaging. It will serve as a lasting resource, bringing context, transparency, and storytelling to the DAO’s funding activities. All the content will be published for free under a CC0 license, which aligns with the Nouns' commitment to openness and creative commons. This report will highlight how Public Nouns is helping build a more transparent, responsible, and inspiring model for funding public goods in Web3. ## How Does This Initiative Support Public Goods? This initiative helps public goods by reporting on every initiative Public Nouns DAO has funded. Our report will make these good deeds more visible by: - Highlighting projects in open-source, education, environment, and community building. - Creating a knowledge base for others to learn from and build on. Making the funding process transparent, showing how decentralized funding works. - By sharing the results of these projects, we help the Web3 community see the real impact of DAO-funded efforts. ## Why This Report is a Public Good This report is designed to be a true public good because it's: - **Non-Excludable**: Anyone can access, use, and share it for free since it will be published under a CC0 license. Researchers, developers, journalists, or anyone curious can use it. - **Non-Rivalrous**: One person using the report doesn't stop anyone else from using it. Downloading it once doesn't make it less valuable for others. Since it's digital and openly licensed, it can be copied and shared endlessly at no extra cost, which fits perfectly with the idea of public goods. ## Why Does it Need Funding? The Public Nouns DAO has already funded over 60 public good projects. But as time goes on, information gets scattered and context is lost. The report needs funding now to prevent impact data from disappearing: - **Preserve history**: The more projects funded, the harder it becomes to piece together their stories later. Capturing this information now ensures accuracy. - **Maximize learning**: The sooner we gather and analyze this data, the more helpful it will be for future proposers and the DAO to fund what matters. - **Keep the momentum going**: Timely sharing of these stories can keep the community energized and highlight the importance of public goods, driving the purchase of more Public Nouns NFT. - **Impact**: To show the sustainable impact of every initiative the Public Nouns DAO has funded. ## Impact/Deliverables We propose to produce a single comprehensive report that catalogues every public-good proposal funded by Public Nouns. The report which will be provided in a PDF format will include: - **Project Summaries**: A clear, organized account of each funded proposal (title, team, funding amount, objectives, status, and outcomes). - **Proposers' Interviews**: First-hand interviews with the people behind each initiative to capture their goals, stories, and impact from executed initiatives. - **Impact Analysis**: Evaluation of each project’s reach and benefits. We will collect quantitative metrics and qualitative feedback from interviews to assess the permanence of the impact achieved. This dual approach follows best practices in implementation research. By covering all funded projects in one place, the report will give the community a “home” for understanding the entire Public Nouns portfolio of public goods, promoting transparency and context for the DAO’s funding activities. ### Methodology - **Data Collection**: We will gather proposal data from official sources like Public Nouns on-chain records and Discord where proposals are discussed. We will compile each proposal’s description, funding details, and any reported outcomes. - **Community Outreach**: To obtain deeper insight, we will contact the teams behind every proposal. Using a semi-structured interview approach, we will reach out via email and Discord and conduct interviews (text or video) with project founders. In parallel, we will distribute a brief community survey to gather broader feedback on the state and impact of Public Nouns. - **Impact Analysis**: For each project, we will document measurable outcomes and compile testimonial evidence from interviews. We will categorize impacts to provide both quantitative and narrative context. All data will be cross-checked against public records for accuracy. - **Report Writing**: We will synthesize the collected information into a polished written report. The report will use clear, non-technical language and include visuals (tables, charts, infographics) to make the data accessible. Each proposal will be featured in a dedicated section with a concise summary, key metrics, and interview highlights. - **Review and Editing**: The draft report will be shared with the Public Nouns community for feedback (via Discord and forums). We will incorporate community input, perform professional editing, and ensure the final document is error-free and well-designed. ### Distribution Plan - **Blog Post & Report Release**: We will publish the findings as a prominently featured blog post on [CARBON Copy](https://carboncopy.news/) and make the full report available as a downloadable PDF, licensed under CC0 to align with Nouns culture of openness. The link to the PDF will be prominently displayed on the CARBON Copy site alongside other reports, and a summary will be published as a feature article. We’ll also share the report across our newsletter, social channels including X, LinkedIn, Telegram, and Farcaster and pursue an interview on Crypto Altruists to further discuss the findings. - **Shareable Graphics**: Key insights will be distilled into eye-catching graphics and infographics suitable for sharing on social media (Twitter/X) and discussion forums. For instance, an infographic summarizing projects with the most impact or a timeline of funding rounds can help spread awareness. - **Community Channels**: We will announce and promote the report in the Public Nouns Discord channels and Twitter spaces. A short presentation or AMA will be organized to walk the community through the findings. ### Value Offered to the Web3 Community - **Enhanced Transparency**: By aggregating all funded proposals and their outcomes, the report will give Public Nouns stakeholders a clear view of where funds went and what was accomplished. - **Building Trust in Public Goods Funding**: Documenting results helps build confidence. By providing thorough documentation of Public Nouns funded projects, we reinforce the legitimacy and trustworthiness of public-goods funding in Web3. - **Inspiring Participation**: Sharing success stories and lessons learned can motivate more people to get involved and purchase more public nouns. Our written report serves a similar purpose: it tells the story of each funded project, which can excite and inspire both current community members and newcomers. Each narrative highlights how creative ideas receive support, which can encourage others to fund the DAO. - **Informing Future Proposers**: The report will act as a knowledge base. By examining what has already been funded and what impact resulted, future proposers can learn what works (and what challenges arose). Our analysis will surface patterns and best practices, helping proposers craft stronger submissions. - **Cultural Record**: By documenting each proposal and its narrative, the report preserves this cultural record. It shows not just financial details but the human stories and community reactions behind them, benefiting researchers and community historians alike. ### Timeline (to January 2026) - **July 2025**: Project kickoff. Finalize research plan, compile list of funded proposals (using Public Nouns on-chain data), and prepare interview questions. - **August–September 2025**: Data gathering and interviews. Reach out to all project leads and conduct interviews. Collect any remaining metrics and project documentation. - **October 2025**: Analysis and drafting. Analyze collected data, draft proposal summaries and impact write-ups, and outline the report structure. - **November 2025**: Writing and design. Write full report content, create visual assets (charts/graphics), and format the report. Share a draft with the community for feedback. - **December 2025**: Editing and finalization. Incorporate feedback, perform professional editing and proofreading, finalize layout/design, and prepare publishable formats. - **January 2026**: Publication. Release the report publicly and initiate the distribution plan. ## Budget Breakdown (Request: 5 ETH) - **Research & Data Collection (1.0 ETH)**: Time and resources to gather proposal information, administer surveys, and conduct interviews. - **Writing & Interviews (1.5 ETH)**: Compensation for authoring the report, including transcribing and analyzing interview content. - **Editing & Review (0.5 ETH)**: Professional editing, proofreading, and fact-checking to ensure high quality. - **Design & Layout (1  ETH)**: Graphic design of the report, including charts, infographics, and cover art. - **Promotion & Outreach (0.5 ETH)**: Creating shareable graphics and social media content; small budget for community campaigns. - **Contingency & Miscellaneous (0.5 ETH)**: To cover any unforeseen costs (e.g. translation into multiple languages, extended interviews). Total: 5 ETH funding request. *Any excesses will be included in the financial report and done as the DAO desires.* ## Feedback Loop We will provide monthly updates to Public Nouns that will highlight the work we’ve done using the funds. By following this plan, we ensure that the report is not only comprehensive and professional but also widely accessible and engaging for the entire Web3 public. It will serve as a lasting resource to improve transparency, inspire community participation, and guide future public-good proposals in the Public Nouns ecosystem. ### Recipient Address 0x687EaD20dee82DcD9f04409BdE1b134e915ab1FB ### Amount in ETH 5 ETH ### References - [CARBON Copy Website](https://carboncopy.news/) - Socials: [X (Formerly Twitter)](https://x.com/cc_refi_news), [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/company/carbon-copy-news/), [Farcaster](https://warpcast.com/carboncopy-refi) - Previous reports done by CARBON Copy: [State of ReFi Report 2024](https://carboncopy.news/reports/The%20State%20of%20ReFi%20Report%202024.pdf) [State of Impact DePIN Report 2024](https://carboncopy.news/reports/The%20Impact%20DePIN%20Report%202024.pdf) - [CARBON Copy Research articles](https://carboncopy.news/features/) - Team: [Kent Babin](https://x.com/kentbabin) – Data & Operations | [Trinity Morphy](https://x.com/TrinityMorphy) – News & Research
# Expanding Public Nouns through Bankless Academy’s Open Source & Scalable Web3 Education ## **Abstract** gm Public Nouners 👋🏻 Thank you for participating in our last proposal. We’ve gathered the feedback received during the voting period of Proposal 70, incorporated it, and here’s our updated version for your consideration. Bankless Academy, a free, open-source, and scalable web3 education public good is requesting 3 ETH to build and bring **awareness to Public Nouns as a real-world example** of decentralized funding for open source digital infrastructure and public goods, while also supporting ongoing development of the project. This grant will be used to: - Develop an **interactive Community Lesson** about Public Nouns, featuring a case study, social quest, and onchain certification. - Launch a 10-day content and outreach campaign to introduce Public Nouns, with **continued visibility** through Bankless Academy’s platform and social channels. - Support the ongoing development of the Bankless Academy platform as an **open-source public good**, including NFT deployment for lesson badge, quest integration, Dune analytics, and general infrastructure. **How Does This Initiative Support Public Goods?** Bankless Academy is an open-source public good providing free, scalable web3 education to learners, builders, and mentors around the world. Since launching in 2022, the platform has reached over 80,000 unique learners across 190+ countries, with content translated into multiple languages and actively used by university clubs, community groups, and onboarding events worldwide. **This initiative will:** - Introduce Public Nouns as a real-world example of NFT-based funding for public-benefit projects. - Maintain and improve the learning experience, including infrastructure and interactive, onchain educational tools. - Support long-term public goods education, enabling more individuals to understand, engage with, and replicate sustainable funding models. By funding this proposal, Public Nouns will contribute to the creation of a high-quality, ongoing educational resource that clearly explains its mission and approach. The case study will remain freely accessible on Bankless Academy, providing continuous visibility to new learners as they begin exploring web3 and impact-focused coordination. **How is it non-excludable?** Once published, the Public Nouns case study on Bankless Academy will be freely accessible to anyone with an internet connection, without paywalls, logins, or subscription barriers. There is no restriction on who can learn from the content, and it is designed to remain open and accessible in the long term. The educational resource will be available to the public indefinitely, regardless of who funded or created it. **How is it non-rivalrous?** The lesson can be used by any number of people simultaneously without reducing its value to others. One person completing the lesson does not limit or diminish another person’s ability to do the same. Broader use improves the value of the resource through community engagement, social proof, and discussion. It is designed to scale without requiring additional resources for each learner, making it a classic example of a non-rivalrous good. **Why does it need funding right now?** This is an opportunity to connect an recognized and active web3 learning platform with a current funding model that deserves wider recognition. Public Nouns is already supporting useful work, but it still needs visibility. Most people entering web3 today don’t encounter examples like this unless they’re already deep in the space. Bankless Academy can provide that visibility on an ongoing basis. With thousands of learners visiting the platform each month and regular outreach across multiple channels, we are well-positioned to present Public Nouns as a live example of how NFT-based funding can support open-access initiatives. ## **Impact & Deliverables** **Public Nouns Community Lesson, Case Study & Onchain Certifications** (1.5 ETH) - Title: "Public Nouns: A Public Goods DAO Experiment" - Covers how pNouns funds public goods thanks to its governance structure and impact NFTs. - Includes interactive features: knowledge checks, social quests (X or Farcaster), and onchain certifications. **Content & Outreach** (0.75 ETH) - Launch a targeted 10-day campaign featuring educational content and coordinated social media posts to introduce the Public Nouns case study to thousands of learners. - Permanent placement of Public Nouns within the app and integration into Bankless Academy’s ongoing content pipeline. **Infrastructure & Operations** (0.75 ETH) - Publish the lesson on Bankless Academy. - Design and deploy the NFT certification, including metadata and artwork. - Set up the social quest, integrated into X and Farcaster. - Track quest completion via onchain analytics using Dune. - Monitor platform engagement with standard metrics such as lesson page views. - Contribute to shared infrastructure costs, including servers, databases, email, and quests. - Provide learner support via email and the “Explorer Customer Service” for user guidance and follow-up. **Expected Outcomes** This project will deliver a permanent educational case study on Public Nouns, expanding awareness of its funding model and real-world contributions. By integrating the lesson into Bankless Academy’s platform and outreach, we’ll drive engagement with NFT-based public goods funding while strengthening the Academy as a reliable, accessible learning resource for web3. ## **Feedback Loop** Bankless Academy has built-in mechanisms to track how learners engage with our content. For this project, we will use a combination of **onchain and offchain data** to assess reach, participation, and overall impact. **What we’ll measure:** - Lesson completions - Certificate mints (onchain proof of completion) - Participation in social quests (e.g. posts, shares) - Wallet activity and engagement via [Dune](https://dune.com/didierkrux/bankless-academy-badges) **How this creates a feedback loop:** - Metrics and insights will be shared with the Public Nouns team at the 30-day mark, and will be publicly available for further follow-up. This process ensures the content remains active, visible, and accountable - not just published, but consistently evaluated and refined based on real usage. ## **References** [Bankless Academy App](https://app.banklessacademy.com/) [Community](https://t.me/banklessacademy) | [X](https://www.notion.so/99ff22f6b37f407186ee87ce2eb03fcb?pvs=21) | [Farcaster](https://warpcast.com/banklessacademy) | [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/company/bankless-academy/) | [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/) [Gitcoin 2.0 Community Lesson](https://app.banklessacademy.com/lessons/gitcoin-2.0-essentials) [Bankless Academy Dune Analytics: Onchain Certifications](https://dune.com/didierkrux/bankless-academy-badges) [Bankless Academy: A Gitcoin Case Study - Sybil Resistance Infrastructure](https://www.gitcoin.co/blog/bankless-academy-a-gitcoin-passport-case-study) Squad Members: [Didier Krux](https://x.com/DidierKrux) - Development & Product | [OrnellaWeb3](https://x.com/OrnellaWeb3) - Marketing & Community
# Public Nouns x Built on Ethereum (documentary) ## Abstract For years now, the mainstream normie narrative has been that "crypto is useless" or that "only good for gambling." There is AN ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE gap between mainstream awareness of crypto, and under-the-radar grassroots adoption across places like Africa & Latin America. But also institutions, governments etc. Most people only know Bitcoin & Memecoins - they know nothing about DeFi, ReFi, DAOs, DeSci, DePIN, RWAs, the convergence with AI etc. etc. We are attempting to change all that by producing this documentary about applications & usecases of The World Computer. ## How does this initiative support Public Goods? Education is one of the most fundamental public goods, and high quality education around non-speculative usecases seems to be almost completely missing. If successful, it will help all of Ethereum, as well as normies. Also by giving back more than it got from Public Nouns, hopefully! ## How is it non-excludable? It will be freely available to anyone with internet, and fully open-source. ## How is it non-rivalrous? Arguably the more people watch it, the more valuable it actually becomes. Scales infinitely & stays online forever. ## Why does it need funding right now? Couldn‘t be more critical timing. Crypto has matured enough to have genuine applications across many domains, yet public perception remains stuck in the "crypto is a scam" narrative. ## Impact/Deliverables ### Primary deliverable A documentary covering: DeFi: The future of finance ReFi: Regenerative economics NFTs: Beyond digital collectibles DAOs: New coordination mechanisms DeSci: Accelerating scientific research DePIN: Decentralized physical infrastructure RWAs: On-chain real-world assets Crypto x AI: The convergence Besides the main narratives, we‘ll also be covering topics like technofeudalism, protocol economies, real world, grassroots adoption, government adoption & institutional adoption. ### Additional deliverables: 20ish short clips & a trailer for promotion A resource page with links to projects featured & citations ### Current state - A few finished clips - A few WIP clips - X terabytes of raw footage The two published clips: - Ethereum in Africa - https://x.com/petheth/status/1908580738183946706 - DeSci on Ethereum - https://x.com/petheth/status/1909298710493720971 Already seen by close to 25k people ### Expected Impact Create a one-link-to-send-them-all, for understanding the value of Ethereum Shift the narrative from speculation to utility in mainstream conversations Inspire newcomers & veterans who got disillusioned, to activate ### Expected release date May 5th ## Feedback Loop How about: - Public Nouns gets a pre-release screening & feedback round - Short clip about Public Nouns & the goods we funded - Attribution to Public Nouns in the credits & main promo materials - 30% of future proceeds back to PNs ## Amount in ETH 5 ETH To be used for retroactively covering our trip expenses & equipment needs + 4 months of work for 2 people. Partially, of course
# The Solar Foundation: Solar Saving Circles pilots ## Solar Saving Circles pilot: Empowering Rural Women in Tanzania and Beyond [![Ecocert-SF-2024-Mar-25.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/d1rzfYtb/Ecocert-SF-2024-Mar-25.jpg)](https://postimg.cc/jwqgWBfc) ## Abstract The Solar Saving Circles initiative from The Solar Foundation combines digital technology with traditional savings groups to empower entrepreneurial women in Sub-Saharan Africa with the utility and benefits of solar power and productive appliances to enable: - A just transition to clean energy - Financial sovereignty through increased income, digital skills and knowledge - Community resilience including the ability to adapt and respond to climate change Our vision is to invest in women’s savings groups (aka Chamas in E. Africa; Esusu in Nigeria; Upato in Tanzania, etc.) to enable rural women to choose their own solar energy resources on their own terms, and to demonstrate how access to renewable energy plus digital skills can help address the UN SDGs including SDG7: Universal access to clean and modern energy; SDG1: No Poverty; SDG4: Quality Education; SDG5: Gender Equality and SDG13: Climate Action. By working with local NGO partners with whom we have established trusted relationships and utilizing NEDA Labs’ WashikaDAO Protocol — digital tech developed in Tanzania by local developers expressly for savings and loans groups — our plan is to launch this pilot in Spring 2025, with a pilot of 100 women in 5 savings groups in Tanzania. These initial groups are in partnership with a local NGO called JUKUMU, a network of 200 savings groups in Tanzania so there is potential to scale to thousands of women and to expand this model to our trusted partners in Uganda and Nigeria in the coming year. We envision the role of The Solar Foundation as facilitating solar training and the procurement of solar power and productive appliances, seeding the saving circles’ community pools for the pilots, promoting cross group collaboration and sharing of ideas, supporting skills training and facilitating data collection and storytelling to help prove impact and scale this model. ## How does this initiative support Public Goods? “Without electricity, we can’t get jobs, health care, or skills. The success of electrification is foundational to everything.” — Ajay Banga, president of the World Bank We believe that access to decentralized clean, renewable energy is a public good, especially in off-grid communities in Africa that have no access to electricity and yet are living in one of the best places for solar energy in the world. With our prior experience working on solar energy solutions for schools, hospitals and community centers, we have seen that even small solar solutions and solar-powered appliances in off-grid communities can have incredible ROI: Ripples of Impact. This project is designed to be regenerative, sustainable and to focus on empowering women who will then empower their families and communities. With the cost of solar infrastructure decreasing an astonishing 90% over the past decade, now is the time to make small investments in a network of savings circles dedicated to solar energy and establish a cooperative model sharing ideas, stories and evidence of how access to solar and productive appliances like solar-powered lanterns, water pumps, drip irrigation, clean cooking and e-mobility can increase financial well-being so that the initial pilots in Tanzania can be scaled to women’s groups in Nigeria, Uganda and beyond. ## How is it non-excludable? Once the solar infrastructure is procured, the power from the sun is nonexcludable and free to all. One fun fact from Renewable Energy Africa is that Africa’s solar energy capacity is estimated at 60,000,000TWh/year. This is approximately 40% of the global total and makes Africa the most sun-rich continent in the world. Because the technology used in this pilot is decentralized and open source and our learnings will be shared anyone will be able to use this work and knowledge to further their communities. ## How is it non-rivalrous? Solar energy consumed by one person does not diminish the amount of solar energy available to all. Related to this, the Solar Savings Circle initiative advances the core principles and values of The Solar Foundation: - A just transition to clean energy for ALL - Energy independence for off-grid communities - Holistic solutions, e.g. Solar + productive appliances, lead to new opportunities for financial sovereignty and community resilience - Why does it need funding right now? According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), an estimated 600 million people in Africa, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, lack access to electricity, and over 900 million people lack access to clean cooking. While clean energy investment is growing in Africa, it is imperative to ensure a just transition to clean energy for all. We work to ensure off-grid, rural communities are not left behind and have access to the infrastructure that will empower them with free energy from the sun along with solar-powered productive appliances that will provide increasing community wealth, health and climate resilience. ## Impact/Deliverables [![2025-05-08-15-04-18.jpg](https://i.postimg.cc/YC2pHSvf/2025-05-08-15-04-18.jpg)](https://postimg.cc/GHN0PdJH) For the initial 5 Solar Saving Circles in Tanzania: - Solar Lanterns for 100 participants to enable the women to immediately start saving money and realizing the benefits of solar power. This will start their journey up the Solar Staircase Model shown above - Solar system for JUKUMU’s community hub where the Solar Saving Circles will meet to ensure access to computers for training and to demonstrate home solar system in action - Seed initial funding for each of the 5 groups ($1k per group) - Solar training and bounties delivered via Impact Foundry by Atlantis to collect data (see feedback loop) - A knowledge bank/repository for sharing case studies and ideas for how to utilize solar-powered appliances for business initiatives such as in agriculture, catering, charging stations, cold storage and more. - Development of a sustainable, regenerative funding model. As we recoup our initial seed funding, then we will use the funds to start new Solar Saving Circles ## Feedback Loop We will be utilizing Impact Foundry by Atlantis, a platform designed to create and manage climate initiatives including offering bounties to engage users in meaningful actions, reward efforts and track impact. The bounties earned by participants for submitting stories, videos, testimonials, etc. will release funds into the saving circles’ community pools. This tool will also help us showcase real-world impact and gather participant feedback for how to continually improve the initiative. We will be sharing our learnings with the DAO and through socials and posts. ## Recipient Address 0xB936d993379e5f52b6b8fdcDFA380508F037A420
I have 2 votes delegates to my wallet right now, I'm voting against, after doing a deep dive in the proposal, I do see the value and potential in creating education rails and funnels for new builders. My vote is against because in the Age of Information and Agentic Future that awaits us all, I think 5ETH ask is too high, would be more comfortable voting FOR if it were 3 ETH as I consider this is the sentiment of my delegators.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness on how to bring more sustainability into treasury (management). That is one of the things I like about this proposal and why I am voting for it inspite of the current appearant disparity of capital in-flow and out-flow of our public nouns DAO treasury
# Kokonut Adelphi x Public Nouns "A Nounish Syntropic Farm" # Kokonut Adelphi x Public Nouns "A Nounish Syntropic Farm" ![](https://kokonut.network/files/Kokonut_Adelphi_Public_Nouns_Value_Flywheel.png#align=%3Aalignment%2Fblock-center "Zero-Code Perpetual Natural Assets Growth Flywheel for Public Goods Funding by @WasabiNetwork - April 13, 2025") ## Abstract Kokonut Network is a decentralized ecosystem for building and deploying syntropic agroforestry farms using Web3 infrastructure. Its [open-source framework](https://framework.kokonut.network/) allows communities to design farms [optimized for diverse funding sources](https://x.com/WasabiNetwork/status/1898000651646390343) (**grants, DAOs, cooperatives, investors**) and impact outcomes (**public goods, financial returns, or blended**). Currently operating 2 live farms and developing 4 more across the Dominican Republic, Kokonut represents a powerful example of Web3 applied to real-world ecological and economic transformation. **Local Ecological, Social, and Economic Impact:** Each Kokonut farm represents a tangible, community-led regenerative project—generating food, livelihoods, biodiversity, and revenue through eco-friendly land use. The [Kokonut Framework](https://framework.kokonut.network/) allows customization based on funding models, enabling it to work across both grant-funded and for-profit scenarios. ## About Kokonut Adelphi Farm The development of this project helps showcase how viable and impactful it is to leverage [Syntropic Farms as Tools](https://x.com/WasabiNetwork/status/1850901028360552750) to achieve diverse outcomes. The main **objective of this proposal isn't only to receive grant funding** from Public Nouns, it is to **challenge the status quo** and demonstrate that grant funding can also be used to satisfy the grantor needs and wants; for this scenario Public Nouns **needs** Sustainable Funding and **wants** to fund Impactful Public Goods Proposals. ### **Kokonut Adelphi Farm Specific Objectives** * **Regenerate soil** through the application of biochar, remineralization, and ground cover to improve fertility and reduce erosion. * **Cultivate a diverse agroecological production** with short, medium, and long-cycle crops, including strategic fruit and forest species. * **Conserve native and endangered species** by establishing a specialized nursery for the propagation and reintroduction of native flora. * **Implement a sustainable animal production system**, featuring free-range laying hens and the use of byproducts for fertilization. * **Train farmers and local communities** in agroecological and sustainable practices, fostering environmental education and the adoption of best practices. * **Expand the project** by acquiring additional land for the conservation of flora and fauna, promoting long-term sustainability. ### Kokonut Adelphi Financial Value Flywheel; using the [Pareto Principle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle) * The profits derived from operating the farm will be distributed as follow:** * **40% to Land Owners** for [usage of land](https://docs.kokonut.network/kokonut-farms/adelphi/the-lands-story), working on farm management and daily activities . * **40% to Public Goods** via a Splits Contract deployed on Ethereum Mainnet with Updatable Weights Every 12 Months based on Retrospective Impact Assessment. * The control of the contract will be a 5/7 Multi-sig with 3 Community Signers elected via Open Nominations using [**Conviction Voting**](https://docs.gardens.fund/conviction-voting/conviction-101), 3 Kokonut Signers and 1 Neutral Member external to the organizations that are beneficiaries of the Split. * The initial set of Public Goods Organization being proposed for the Splits Contract are **Public Nouns DAO**, **GREEN** (Focused on Ecological Positive Initiatives), and [**Kokonut Foundation**](https://x.com/KokonutFDN) (Focused on Local Impact in the Dominican Republic) as outlined in the Diagram Flywheel. * The exact criteria for new organizations to be added to the Splits Contract is presenting your case by explaining how your organization initiatives are non-rivalrous and non-excludable. These proposal will be posted in the Kokonut Green Garden and a template will be fleshed out by the Kokonut Green [Garden Council](https://docs.gardens.fund/coordination-hierarchy/markdown#council-safe). * **20% to Kokonut Network** to keep improving the [Kokonut Framework](https://framework.kokonut.network/) and scaling the Network to more locations. > This [tweet](https://x.com/ameensol/status/1891788461008420910) by Ameen explains why the Kokonut Network gets a performance-based allocation. ## How does this initiative support Public Goods? This initiative directly support Public Goods by allocating 40% of the profits derived from the Operations of the Farm and every revenue stream (vegetable harvest, fertilizers production and impact tokenization), to a Splits Contract. ## How is it non-excludable? This proposal directly improves the [Kokonut Framework](https://framework.kokonut.network/) and fosters its community adoption, as an [open-source](https://github.com/wasalo/kokonut-framework), fork-able & freely available tool. It can be used by anyone around the world to design, develop and scale Community-owned Ecological-positive Syntropic Farms. ## How is it non-rivalrous? [Kokonut Adelphi](https://docs.kokonut.network/kokonut-farms/adelphi) isn't rivalrous because everything is open source and the game plan is repeatable. It is non-rivalrous because one farm using the framework does not prevent any other farm from using the framework. Kokonut Adelphi is a sustainable farm that will increase the organic food supply in the region and nearby areas by deploying a [Syntropic Ecosystem](https://docs.kokonut.network/kokonut-farms/adelphi/crops-biodiversity-and-infrastructure) that will produce new net positive value. ## Why does it need funding right now? We have been working on Kokonut Adelphi for a few months when it comes to [data collection](https://x.com/KokonutNetwork/status/1903452247494685004), [diagnosis](https://x.com/KokonutNetwork/status/1899850028614549600), and [sustainable development plan](https://docs.kokonut.network/kokonut-farms/adelphi/crops-biodiversity-and-infrastructure); this grant will be used to fund the [**critical infrastructure**](https://x.com/KokonutNetwork/status/1896944730317168848) we need to reach the planting stage of the farm, which is [Kokonut Framework Phase II, Step III](https://framework.kokonut.network/development-phases/phase-ii#diverse-crop-planting). ## 5 Reasons to vote YES for this Proposal? * [Ethereum Foundation Leadership Bullish on Syntropic Farms](https://x.com/tkstanczak/status/1898691205937987907) * [School kids are being poisoned by pesticide use](https://elnuevodiario.com.do/estudiantes-de-escuela-en-villa-riva-intoxicados-por-fumigacion-con-pesticidas/); ***We Need to Scale & Accelerate the Global Transition to Syntropic Farming with a 100% organic approach.*** * [There's a collective sentiment in the Nouns Community about Revenue-positive Proposals](https://x.com/gamiwtf/status/1907678201612218417) * [Ethereum Foundation leadership is exploring alternatives on how to extend its runaway](https://x.com/TheDevanshMehta/status/1910612593342833112) * This proposal directly taps into the [**Ethereum Localism Narrative**](https://x.com/WasabiNetwork/status/1898000651646390343) by leveraging Ethereum-based Tools for Capital Allocation([Splits](https://splits.org/)), Community Governance([Gardens](https://www.gardens.fund/)), Impact Measurement([Karma GAP](https://gap.karmahq.xyz/)), Impact Tokenization([Hypercerts](https://www.hypercerts.org/)), 3rd Party Attestations([Atlantis](https://www.atlantisp2p.com/)) and Trees Tracking([Silvi](https://www.silvi.earth/)). ## Proposal Deliverables ### Kokonut Adelphi Farm Critical Infrastructure Deliverables 1. **Electrical Grid Infrastructure** | $2,184.03 2. **Completion of House Construction** | $1,122.69 3. **Water Reservoir Repair** | $709.15 4. **Water Pump** | $3,205.03 5. **Water Drip Irrigation System** | $2,650.77 6. **Repair of Perimeter Fence** | US$1,306.66 7. **Organic Fertilizers, Minerals & Humid Acids Bio-Factory** | $3,500.15 **Total Quoted in USD 14,678.48** > These amounts include a 10-15% buffer for any unforeseen event, we will strive to deliver and complete these items with the least amount possible, and final amounts can be tracked via the [Kokonut Data Hub](https://hub.kokonut.network/projects/41) on the item-by-item basis with detailed expenses linked to each task. **We have other sources of funding like Gitcoin Grants & Giveth, in case of ETH Price Drop** ### Public Nouns Awareness Deliverables 1. At current market prices, the grant amount covers the **Critical Infrastructure** to complete [PHASE I](https://framework.kokonut.network/development-phases/phase-i) & [PHASE II](https://framework.kokonut.network/development-phases/phase-ii) of Kokonut Framework, which takes the Adelphi Farm to the planting stage. **We have additional sources of funding from Gitcoin Grants & Giveth available in case ETH Price Drop.** ![](https://kokonut.network/files/Adelphi_Polygon_Infra.jpeg "") --- ## Propose a Grant Rationale from [Public Nouns Manifesto](https://docs.publicnouns.wtf/manifesto): The mission of Public Nouns DAO is to support public goods through: 1. experimentation: experiment with new methods of public goods funding, starting with Public Nouns itself. 2. advocacy: raise awareness of public goods 3. funding: fund public goods and mechanisms directly #### Examples Creating: Initiatives building public goods or infrastructure Funding: Initiatives that fund public goods directly to help diversify impact Advocacy: Initiatives that raise awareness of public goods --- ## Provocative Questions Based on Public Nouns Mission ### Advocacy: Do you want to spread the gospel about nouns? This proposal directly advocates for and raises awareness about Public Goods Funding. It helps improve the [Kokonut Framework](https://framework.kokonut.network/), an [OSS Tool](https://github.com/wasalo/kokonut-framework) that can be leveraged by stakeholders (**Communities, Organizations, DAOs, and Institutions**) to design, maintain, and scale Outcomes-based Ecological-Friendly Assets. [Kokonut Adelphi](https://docs.kokonut.network/kokonut-farms/adelphi) will feature Nouns Memorabilia across several areas of its development, like a flag that will be placed at the farm's entrance, Nouns-inspired packaging for our harvest, and in-store banners that will include a QR code back to the Public Nouns Website. ### Funding: Do you want to sustainably fund public goods? [Kokonut Adelphi](https://docs.kokonut.network/kokonut-farms/adelphi) is the first Outcomes-based farm within our network that is being optimized for Public Goods and Return on Impact Goals. Kokonut Adelphi will allocate 40% of its profits toward local and global public goods by leveraging [Splits](https://splits.org/) to distribute value to organizations nominated via Kokonut Green Gardens using conviction voting. Every year we will assess the impact of these contributions and modify the weights being allocated or propose new organizations via Kokonut Green Gardens in an open nomination process to be added to the Splits Contract via conviction voting. Secured by the [Kokonut Framework](https://framework.kokonut.network/), Kokonut Adelphi will be able to fund public goods sustainably for many years locally and globally; this approach is building on the idea "How to Regenerate Your Treasury with Trees", which we proposed back in 2022 to MetaCartel Grants in a [forum post](https://forum.metacartel.org/t/proposal-metacartel-treasury-sustainability/2277/11). Fast-forward to today, thanks to our transition to [Syntropic Farming](https://framework.kokonut.network/development-phases/why-syntropic-farming) we have reduced time to cash flow and increased value output while decreasing costs, as our [methodology](https://framework.kokonut.network/development-phases/phase-i) doesn't need 4 years of runaway and instead can unlock cash flow within 6 months. > **Our Proposal is optimized FOR two types of ROI = Return On Investment & Return on Impact.** ### Experimentation: Do you want to increase the treasury runaway? [Kokonut Adelphi](https://docs.kokonut.network/kokonut-farms/adelphi) is aligned with the experimentation category of the [Public Nouns Manifesto](https://docs.publicnouns.wtf/manifesto) by leveraging Trees as a source of financial value for public goods funding, this enables a mechanism that leverages [8 Forms of Capital](https://framework.kokonut.network/features/8-forms-of-capital-formation) to create upside that increases the treasury runaway of Public Nouns DAO. Public Nouns DAO will be one of the organizations to receive donations from the 40% Profit Allocation for Public Goods derived from Kokonut Adelphi Revenue Streams. > **We're creating a trifecta values-aligned with the pillars Public Nouns Manifesto.** --- ## Kokonut Adelphi x Public Nouns Mock-ups ![](https://kokonut.network/files/Adelphi_Flag_Mockup.jpg#align=%3Aalignment%2Fblock-center "Kokonut Network x Public Nouns Flag Mockup") ![](https://kokonut.network/files/Vegetetable_box_kkn_example2.jpg#align=%3Aalignment%2Fblock-center "Nouns-inspired Vegetable & Fruits Box") ![](https://kokonut.network/files/Snapback_Hat_Adelphi.jpg "") ![](https://kokonut.network/files/KKN_delphi_poster_supermarket.jpg#align=%3Aalignment%2Fblock-center "Mock-up for a Poster to be placed in Organic Markets") ![](https://kokonut.network/files/Umbrella_Adelphi.jpg "") ![](https://kokonut.network/files/Bucket%20Hat_Adelphi.jpg "") --- ## Useful Resources * ***Website** [https://www.kokonut.network/](https://www.kokonut.network/)* * ***Let’s have a chat** [https://link.kokonut.network/meeting](https://link.kokonut.network/meeting)* * ***Tree of Links** [https://link3.to/kokonutnetwork](https://link3.to/kokonutnetwork)* * ***Kokonut Network Karma GAP Profile** [https://link.kokonut.network/karma](https://link.kokonut.network/karma)* * ***Kokonut Data Hub** [https://hub.kokonut.network/](https://hub.kokonut.network/)* * ***Kokonut Framework Docs*** [https://framework.kokonut.network](https://framework.kokonut.network/) * ***Kokonut Adelphi Docs*** <https://docs.kokonut.network/kokonut-farms/adelphi>
# Cosmolocal.Playground Residency ### **Abstract** We are requesting a 5ETH grant to sponsor the *Cosmolocal Playground* residency in Amsterdam, an initiative that bridges global innovation with local wisdom. This residency focuses on *Innovating the Commons* and brings together local builders, creatives, and entrepreneurs with Web3-native participants to co-create solutions for commons-based challenges using decentralized technologies. The residency will culminate in Open Market weekends where outputs are showcased to the public, fostering real-world feedback loops and advancing cosmolocal mechanisms. This grant will enable the *Cosmolocal Playground* residency to pioneer innovative approaches to organizing and funding public goods while fostering collaboration between local communities and Web3 ecosystems. Public Nouns funding will support: - Subsidized resident accommodation to ensure inclusivity. - Development of public goods (tools, protocols and knowledge resources) - Smooth coordination and facilitation of the residencies. Public Nouns support will be featured prominently in digital communications, as well as physically within the location in central Amsterdam for the 6 weeks. Learn more about residency series on the website – https://cosmolocal.space --- ### **How Does This Initiative Support Public Goods?** ### **Non-Excludability** The *Cosmolocal Playground* residency focuses on developing commons-based solutions that are accessible to all. Outputs such as frameworks, protocols, and knowledge repositories will be open-source and publicly available. By committing to documenting and releasing all information open-sourced , the residency ensures that its outputs are globally shareable and not restricted to specific groups or individuals. ### **Non-Rivalrousness** The resources and knowledge generated during the residency are non-rivalrous; their use by one individual or group does not diminish their availability for others. For example, decentralized knowledge hubs and participatory urban planning tools developed during the program can be replicated and adapted by communities worldwide without depleting their utility. ### **Urgency of Funding** Funding is critical at this stage to: - Ensure the inclusivity of participants by subsidizing housing and meals. - Secure operational stability for two planned residencies in Spring 2025. - Lay the groundwork for a permanent cosmolocal hub in Amsterdam, which can serve as a model for similar initiatives globally. --- ### **Impact/Deliverables** The *Cosmolocal.Playground* residency will deliver: 1. **Practical Solutions**: Outputs such as participatory urban planning tools, commons-based cultural production systems, and decentralized resource allocation frameworks. 2. **Knowledge Sharing**: Documentation of best practices and learnings in a public repository accessible to global communities. 3. **Public Engagement**: Open Market weekends where innovations are showcased to local communities and global participants for real-world validation. 4. **Global Impact**: Insights from the residency will contribute to a broader cosmolocal knowledge hub, enabling replication and adaptation worldwide. --- ### **Feedback Loop** The residency incorporates feedback loops through: - Engagement with local stakeholders during development phases. - Public showcases during Open Market weekends, where outputs are tested and refined based on community input. - Iterative documentation to ensure learnings are continuously improved upon and shared globally. --- ### **Recipient Address** cosmolocal playground multisig: [0x1b6533c50454b372124bA870D50b7ebd4907809D](https://app.safe.global/home?safe=eth:0x1b6533c50454b372124bA870D50b7ebd4907809D) --- ### **Amount in ETH** 5ETH
There is no point to spend funds on something like this, with the advent of AI this archive will become obsolete in zero time, not to mention that human maintained archives will always cost money to keep up to date. I would not see this as a wise us of funds.
This prop along with many of the latest props asking for 5 ETH offer little in the way actually public good funding, I would love to see anyone asking for fund start with a much smaller amount and make progress before coming back to the DAO to ask for 10% of the remaining funds. Hate to be the bad guy, but I'd like to see this trend discontinued and will vote against all 5 ETH props, without a smaller test grant with proof of follow up.
# Words of Web3 Glossary - Take 2 ## Abstract Given how rapidly the web3 industry advances, and given how much of the educational content available to new users constitutes marketing content, there is an outstanding need for credibly neutral educational content for users of various languages and technical literacies to learn about this technology. To this end, Education DAO has compiled a multilingual glossary of technical terms pertaining to web3 and other decentralized technologies, with the intention of maintaining this glossary in a community-led manner. This glossary, named Words of Web3, is built as a public good in the spirit of credible neutrality. It is open-source, free to access, and does not depend on any underlying revenue model or vest interest aside from the provision of sound educational content. This glossary marks the beginning of a high-quality and canonical source of terminological truth, to address the needs not only of new users seeking to learn about this technology, but also developers and content creators seeking consistent and unambiguous language for their documentation. Words of Web3 Github repo: [https://github.com/mapachurro/web3-glossary-website](https://github.com/mapachurro/web3-glossary-website) Words of Web3 website: [https://wordsofweb3.eth.limo/](https://wordsofweb3.eth.limo/) ### Background EducationDAO was started as a container to put the Consensys Developer Bootcamp content when the decision was made to deprecate Consensys Academy. Initially the idea was to have the community keep the repos up to date and offer the course as they like. The core team, however, decided to expand the scope of the DAO and shift the focus to not just supporting a crowd sourced course for training web3 developers in the Ethereum ecosystem, but to provide a receptacle for credibly neutral content about the overall decentralized web3 space and to start with a more direct product of a web3 glossary, as the overhead was less than that of the developer bootcamp. Being a set of web3 learners and educators, and wordsmiths, ourselves, we are very aligned with a glossary, especially a multilingual one, which supports universal global learning, and can be used by developers, documentarians, educators and learners alike. After Oliver gave [a talk at Devcon VI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP7gMn-LA5o) about terminology in web3, several audience members specifically asked for a community terminology resource, which was the seed for Words of Web3. In building EducationDAO, it is increasingly clear to us that people are not interested in Doing Web3 in product- or ecosystem-specific silos, and resources that give opinionated explanations are fragmenting discourse and tribalizing opinion. Many glossaries are not large enough, not maintained well, hard to navigate, and product specific. Many are on one page, making it difficult to collect granular metrics about terms. Words of Web3 aims to collate existing glossaries, develop a review process for entries, and partner with aligned organizations to either expand contributors, or incorporate their content. The only community managed glossary that we know is the EFs, which is ecosystem specific. The product and chain agnostic nature of our glossary not only sets it apart from most other glossaries, but it allows anyone to contribute content, so long as it follows our editorial guidelines. ### How does this initiative support public goods? Knowledge is a prime example of a public good. Users of emerging technology deserve access to sound educational content which has been created without any marketing-related ulterior motives. Moreover, this knowledge should be accessible across a variety of languages, which is why our glossary involves translating entries into over 20 languages, with the ability to add languages as needed. ### How can Public Nouns benefit from this partnership? This is a tool that any Public Nouns community members can use and contribute to\! Also, as many education programs are not getting funding, Public Nouns would stand out in this space. We would also be happy to discuss custom glossary applications for public Nouns. ### How is it non-excludable? The glossary is open-source and free to access. If protocols or companies want custom integrations of the glossary into their documentation, that could be handled as a paid engagement, but broader access to the glossary’s web app will remain free to users across various languages. ### How is it non-rivalrous? One person learning from this glossary does not prevent another from doing the same. Because the value of knowledge is virtually inexhaustible, our glossary qualifies as non-rivalrous. as protocol.land, fleek.xyz, Arweave Naming System, and more. The precise dWeb stack is still to be determined, but this transition will be gradual. The goal is to build the glossary web app in a manner resistant to deprecation and capture, such that its reliance on Education DAO’s continued funding is minimized. Consensys will be a trial user of Words of Web3, embedding glossary terms in their support and documentation site. We hope this provides sufficient initial exposure to the project to build out usership and contributors. ### How is it being maintained? Currently, the glossary is being maintained by Oliver, our lead terminologist and internationalization specialist. We plan to have a submission review schedule for user submitted terms/definitions/changes. Our scraper will run on a regular schedule which will have its own review process. We will also set up a glossary PM through our Hats tree. ### What is the on-chain component? Firstly, Words of Web3 is being hosted on IPFS via Fleek. We would like to move the repository over to Protocol.land, or some equivalent once we are ready to make the repo public. Secondly, we would like to enable contributors to receive remuneration for their contributions in an on-chain fashion that could be in the form of a reputation marker and currency. We are exploring using [Seed Protocol](https://seedprotocol.io/sdk/getting-started) for our attestation mechanism. In the terminology world, reputation markers on forums is a clear signal of expertise and we want to ensure that reputation based signaling in this field is bridged over to the web3 terminology environment. This can take the form of attestations, in some combination of EAS, querying, and internal curation, which is on our roadmap for development. ### Why does it need funding right now? We need funding now to get it across the line to MVP. Our developer has built out most of the backend required, but his skill set does not include front end and UI/UX capabilities. Additionally, the proliferation of a multilayer/multichain ecosystem has increased the burden on us all to understand with specificity jargon and terminology to safely and successfully DO THE THING. The value of credibly neutral canonical terminology cannot be understated. ### Impact The primary goal of this glossary is to enable individuals around the world to better understand this technology. This impact would be achieved primarily through multiple modes of user engagement, whether it be a user simply reading the glossary, a developer using the glossary to inform their technical documentation, or a content creator referencing the glossary for canonical definitions. In all cases, the result is the delivery of reliable technical information to users. To measure impact by end of Q1 2025, we plan to: * Test the implementation of the glossary by partnering with Consensys’ Support and Customer Support docs teams, which will use the glossary as a reference in their docs. * Track user engagement by term, length of time spent on the website, location of user, language, and number of unique users. The format of our glossary allows for this, unlike most other glossaries, which are simply a single word list. * We aim to have the content submission process ready by the beginning of Q1 2025 and would like to have at least 50 terms contributed by the end of Q1 2025 through community submission. ### Deliverables We have already built most of the backend, but there are various other aspects this grant funding would enable us to complete. Most importantly, this grant would fund the last mile of our MVP development process, allowing us to take the glossary web app to market. As for what we have in mind when we aim for an MVP, we simply mean a web interface which can be effectively navigated by users who wish to browse and cite the glossary, with existing backend functionality. We expect this to take until the end of Q1 2025\. Beyond this, our roadmap involves other features, such as peer-to-peer storage of glossary content (e.g. Arweave), community submissions of new terms, translations, and resources to the glossary, and creation of an API for glossary content allowing API consumers to embed glossary terms directly in their content (for a fee, ideally). While we feel confident that this funding would enable us to ship an MVP, the completion of these later features might require more work. ### Feedback loop Once the glossary’s web app is public, we will be better able to engage with our target audience of end users, developers, and content creators. Even before we have the infrastructure for programmatic community contributions to the glossary, we can still facilitate submissions in a more manual fashion using pull requests. As for the long-term prospects of this glossary, we aim to build it in such a way that maximizes preservation and minimizes overhead, using a variety of decentralized web technologies such ### Recipient address 0x1526360946a692284e50c9E887F18e9b3E52E467 (education-dao.eth, EOA) ### Budget #### Amount in ETH 3 ETH Given a 3 ETH grant, we will spend it as follows, subject to unforeseen operational circumstances: - 1 ETH for retroactive compensation for previous dev work. - 1 ETH for continued part-time dev work to bring the glossary to an MVP. - 0.5 ETH for part-time project management to see the project through to MVP. - 0.5 ETH for a contract with a UI/UX developer, to take the MVP and create an attractive and user-friendly web interface for our intended audiences (end users ### Team description - Oliver Renwick, developer, translator, terminologist - [Twitter](https://x.com/mapachurro), [Farcaster](https://warpcast.com/mapachurro), [2023 ETH Bogota talk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP7gMn-LA5o) - Lead technical writer and internationalization lead at Consensys Spanish\<\>English interpreter and translator for 12 years in the medical, community, and legal fields; Full stack developer - Elizabeth Cusma, project manager, translator, partnership lead - [Twitter](https://x.com/elizabethcusma), [Farcaster](https://warpcast.com/lizzybeth) - Co-Director at EducationDAO; Spanish\<\>English translator in community and legal fields for 10 years; Program Director and Translation Manager at immigrant integration non-profits for 5 years; community organizer. - [Clinamenic](https://www.clinamenic.com/), advisor - [Twitter](https://x.com/clinamenic), [Farcaster](https://warpcast.com/clinamenic) - Co-founder at JournoDAO - Opeyemi Stephen, Software Engr, Technical Writer, Ecosystem Builder - [Twitter](https://x.com/devVGBG) - Consensys, Hyperbolic, FUEL, Education DAO
# Funding Public Goods Through Gamification: A Grant Proposal for Tales of Tasern Abstract: This proposal seeks 5 ETH to fund Tales of Tasern (ToT), an initiative that gamifies public goods funding through blockchain technology. By combining storytelling, gaming, and collectibles, ToT turns passive support for sustainability into active participation. The grant will fuel innovative liquidity pools and NFTs that perpetually support clean water, clean air, and renewable energy initiatives. How Does This Initiative Support Public Goods? ToT leverages blockchain’s transparency and DeFi to sustain public goods funding. I have developed the character and game over many years of playing Dungeons & Dragons. For the past year, I have been building pieces of the game on-chain. Using AI, I brought the characters from the game alive. Each character is minted as an ERC-1155 NFT. Then, liquidity is deposited in LPs, and these positions are sent to the NFT address. This locks the pools that generate yield and fees into the NFTs. We call this gamified structured liquidity. Now for the fun part…funding public goods. We have gamified structuring liquidity around several assets to add value and impact over time. In our liquidity pools, we pair wBTC & wETH (driving value), DAI & USDGLO (for stability) and EARTH (additional impact) against our eight ToT game tokens ($PKT, $LGP, $DHG, $EGP, $IGS, $DDD, $OGC, $BTN). We then pair these eight ToT game tokens against carbon credits ($CCC, $NCT, $BCT, $MCO2, $CRISP-M), renewable energy credits ($JLT-B23, $JLT-F24), litter removal credits ($LTK and $RTAZC) and tokenized solar lanterns ($LANTERN). By building diversified portfolios of impact assets, we increase the APYs of liquidity pools created from AMMs, rebalancing the pools when external markets shift removing the demand for active traders to create baseline APYs for the LPs. These APYs earned in tokenized public goods from permanently locked liquidity perpetually fund public goods year after year. How Is It Non-Excludable? Anyone with access to X (Twitter) can participate in ToT stories and games. Contributions to public goods are embedded in the gameplay, allowing global access to initiatives that benefit society without needing personal funding or excluding non-participants. Also, the impact funded by the game benefits everyone. How Is It Non-Rivalrous? Contributions to ToT's ecosystem do not diminish the value others derive. Instead, the platform thrives on shared participation, benefiting all users from the impact of gamified structured liquidity. ToT is a positive sum game, and the diversity of assets in the game creates demand over time; the more communities we work with, the better the mathematical outcome will be. This structuring of assets has already been shown to create positive market pressures for associated assets. Because of this, we actively find and support all available eco-credits on Polygon, where we are building, because it is morally and mathematically the right thing to do. Why Does It Need Funding Right Now? Funding will help scale the impact of ToT’s unique gamified structured liquidity model, securing its market presence and driving adoption. The funding is needed now because we want to actively compete in the upcoming 2.7mil pol meme battle from Polygon, which is about to start in less than a week and will run for a month. This added liquidity will significantly improve our odds of winning a top place in the meme battle. With public goods needing urgent support now more than ever, this funding will help fund impactful projects that align with global sustainability goals. A portion of any winnings from the battle will go back into the development of the game and the LPs. Who Am I: My name is James Magee I am a passionate environmentalist that dedicates as much time as I can afford to helping people and the planet. I am a full time father of four and a small business owner. I process local waste wood into useful things. I enjoy carpentry, gardening table top role playing games and learning more about new ideas. Budget/Deliverables: 2 ETH: Step One - Lock 1 ETH against 1ETH evenly split between the eight ToT currencies ($PKT, $LGP, $DHG, $EGP, $IGS, $DDD, $OGC, $BTN) to sustain growth for the ecosystem. 2 ETH: Step Two - Used to purchase ToT currencies, paired with 1 ETH worth of impact assets for liquidity. Token-weighted voting will take place on Charmverse to determine which eco-credits to include. Deposits will be attached to gamified NFTs and placed on the market. A portion of the ETH spent ends up in the LPs made in step one. 1 ETH: For the time and energy to set up the gamified structured liquidity pools and continue developing, marketing and maintaining the game. Generated liquidity yields in ETH from the deposits made in phase one will buy Public Nouns used for prizes fostering community engagement over time. Public Nouns holders will receive custom Tales of Tasern NFTs that perpetually support the public goods of the in-game nation of their choice. 80% of the funding remains on-chain as TVL perpetually supporting the growth of public goods eco-credit markets on the blockchain. 20% is used for overhead and staff.
