the third paragraph articulated well my thoughts. +1 > While I appreciate the good intentions behind this proposal, and I want to be clear that providing clean drinking water to communities in need is an unquestionably worthy cause, I find myself unable to support the prop as it currently stands due to concerns about the media plan. > > Projects like this are opportunities to prove that communities like ours can be a real force for good in the world, going beyond onetime donations and forging deep, meaningful connections with the people and causes we support. I have a sense from Brennen’s vote that this is supposed to be the first step towards that — but I’m abstaining to prompt a discussion about how to build that level of connection into props, as well as kickstart a conversation about our goals and values as a community. We need to ask ourselves: How does charitable work like this align with our mission of proliferating Nouns? How are we sharing that work with the world? > > The promise of ‘getting coverage of boots on the ground’ and putting noggles on the project leader and having them thank the Nouns community feels directionally incorrect. It positions Nouns as a benefactor, puts the proposer on the hook for distribution, and also creates some strange optics (no pun intended) by requiring the ones doing charitable work to put noggles on as a ‘make good’ for funding. To truly be effective, proposals of this nature need to have a specific vision for how they plan to proliferate Nouns. > > Imagine if this proposal were rewritten to include an expanded media budget that funded screenings of a short documentary about the well project in key cities around the world. These events could serve as powerful educational opportunities, teaching attendees about the Nouns treasury and the transformative potential of an onchain internet that can democratize financial access. This approach could extend the reach and impact of the initiative far beyond our own crypto-native bubble, touching the lives of people who might never otherwise encounter our community. > > Or consider the possibility of making the raw footage of the well construction available to the entire Nouns community, inviting everyone to create their own edits and interpretations of the material. A revised prop might allocate a portion of the budget to award prizes to the creators of the most compelling videos. > > Neither of these suggestions may be right for this exact prop, but what I’m conveying is the belief that we should be leveraging the power of our community and what makes Nouns unique. If we’re truly focused on proliferation, then every proposal we consider must be crafted with an eye towards creating a story worth telling.
re juar’s very valid concerns: I have had conversations via private dms and calls with 4 teams already. ccarella has had 5 credible conversation. i’ve also reached out to several others. i plan on pushing harder on outreach once this prop is finalized. there is always a fear of flopping the round - eg no good submissions, we look dumb and ‘waste 300k’. i’ve had it since the very first round on prop house. every single time, specially on big rounds, we are surprised at the outcomes. while the chance of failure is real, i encourage everyone to take a leap of faith on what could be a meaningful outcome long term.
# Fund Retroactive Rounds via Rounds.wtf **tldr:** Allocate 50 ETH towards retroactive rounds via new Farcaster-native UX: [rounds.wtf](https://rounds.wtf). **Context:** The Prop House team is exploring a new UX via Farcaster for Nouns to allocate funds through. There are several reasons why we feel compelled to experiment in this direction: - Rounds are inherently social. Therefore, a user experience that embeds itself into a social platform makes running rounds a frictionless experience. - Leveraging the Farcaster’s social graph, we can expand Nouns participants beyond our immediate voting pool in order to scale allocation efforts. - Building atop of Farcaster makes our development cycles shorter. **Experiments:** We’ve run two rounds so far: - [Round 1](https://rounds.wtf/rounds/nouns-weekly-retro-1): - Test: Will we receive quality submissions through “reply to submit”. - Results: 71 submission of which 37 were awarded via 48 unique addresses allocating 1200+ votes. The allocation can be seen [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tgfqDf-5bws8NZp171J_kNPPQUiNwKGtteSeyd93gUk/edit?usp=sharing). - [Round 2](https://rounds.wtf/rounds/nouns-weekly-retro-2): - Test: Will "likes as votes" function equal to or better than voting. - Results: 69 submissions, 46 were awarded via 43 unique fids allocating 300+ likes. - [Round 3](https://rounds.wtf/rounds/nouns-weekly-retro-3): (ongoing) - Test: Will "tag to submit" work as well as reply to submit - Results: We had a very slow start (yesterday) so today we added reply to submit alongside tag to submit. Conclusions pending. **What's next?** We're taking everything we've learned since Prop House inception and speed running it on a new medium. Our goal is to ship a new feature to test assumptions on a weekly basis. Items we're actively thinking about: - Fine tuning the selected voter base. - Automating payouts to handle 100s of award recipients. - Activating new people into Nouns via voting (likes) and/or submissions (replies). - DIY round creation. - Adapting to channels as the community primitive. **Ask:** 50 ETH, 100% will be used towards funding Nouns contributors. The funds are being sent to a [1/2 safe](https://app.safe.global/home?safe=eth:0xeB497C01d8dc95d1813281Ae29CbC6cCED70C615) managed by soli & seneca.

# Double down on Nouns x Farcaster **tldr:** Allocate another $150k to bring the total to $300k (3x100) in funding towards Nouns x Farcaster round in order to attract the best builders possible. **Context:** Through [proposal 498](https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/498), Nouns voted to fund a Nouns x Farcaster round for $150k USDC where three teams will receive $50k each to run a three month sprint. Reflecting on the level of commitment that we’re asking for and our hope to attract the best builders possible - we may be undervaluing the task at hand. Top tier teams’ opportunity cost is far greater than Nouns’ current offer. Additionally, given the small but real possibility of the new app becoming the everyday Nouns app - $150k does not properly price in the upside. Initially this app will try to solve for communication within Nouns but it may evolve to encompass more Nouns functions (governance, funding, etc) thanks to Farcaster’s expanding feature set. If any of these ideas play out, it is critical for us to do so with the best team(s) possible. Lastly, capital is nowhere near as scarce as talent. It seems like a reasonable trade. **Logistics:** The $150k would go into the same safe that the initial funds were sent to in prop 498.double-down-on-nouns-x-farcaster

(using [investor update template](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y3SmneDvc11XLwPA8sPgci1HN5qNatRHkSNyGVcCJEU/edit)): Going well: - Shipped round powered by Farcaster @ [rounds.wtf](https://rounds.wtf/nouns-weekly-retro-1) - Core UX on [prop.house](https://prop.house) is now stable - Brought [Wayne](https://warpcast.com/alongcamewayne) onboard to help move FE dev faster - [nouns.camp](https://nouns.camp) integration almost ready Not going well: - Tech stack has made us slow and rigid Lessons: - Realization that the entities we were targeting as potential users are not communities at all. ie, they are companies with lots of people but a single ‘voting’ entity as opposed to many entities voting (eg nouns). - Our long dev cycle and rigid tech stack made us slow, we have to prioritize speed over everything else. Priorities: - Continue exploring [Frames](https://warpcast.notion.site/Farcaster-Frames-4bd47fe97dc74a42a48d3a234636d8c5) as the UX to interact with rounds - Redeploy onto L2 for simpler and less costly architecture Other: - Gardeners Season 1 ended (ran 6 rounds from nov-feb @ 10 ETH ea)
voting against because 1) i find it hard to justify the $20k price tag and 2) props that upgrade nouns contracts, however small, should be formatted in a way that leave no room for security concerns (as can be seen in vwrs). nothing re: audits was mentioned (regardless of whether they are needed or not) nor the relevant PRs were linked.
i appreciate the intention behind the prop and wylin's energy but i just can't get behind a prop that feels like a trad business plan. i don't really follow what the end goal or ideal outcome is here when so much of the prop reads as buzz words and macro level statistics.
# Nouns x Farcaster *tldr:* ***What?** Nouns funds three teams for three-month sprints @ $50k each to build alternative communication clients for Nouns using the Farcaster protocol **Why?** Nouns has yet to make meaningful leaps in how information is surfaced across the ecosystem. This round aims to solve for that using a promising social technology being built in a community that complements Nouns, Farcaster.* *---* # Communication Nouns has grown far and wide into various subgroups, including gaming, creatives, devs, and charity that each live in different pockets of the internet. Information across these different silos rarely flows in a productive manner so that the ecosystem can be exposed to any one particular matter. While our current pipelines are diverse (Twitter, Discord, Warpcast), none meet the needs of our ecosystem. As an ever evolving internet-native community, we should aim to improve our infrastructure to expand what is possible within Nouns. # Current alternatives Nouns has three main communication channels: Twitter, Discord and Farcaster. They all lack the right mix of features, integrations and UX to properly surface relevant information for the Nouns ecosystem to make productive use of. Each fall short, to varying degrees, on key characteristics including: **Ephemerality:** none work well for any nounsfolks that aren’t “there when it happened”. At most, any one item will last ~48 hours via retweets. **Noise:** some channels are far too noisy to allow for Nouns related content to grow into prominence (eg Nouns media sitting next to almost hypnotic clickbait on Twitter) **Integrations:** Warpcast does best when tying into crypto-native social but is too general in scope to integrate deeper into Nouns-native social. # Scope: **Mandate** The mandate would be Nouns Communication Clients. Any proposal to work on a client that improves Nouns ecosystem communication in a meaningful way is welcome to propose. **Requirements** - Build a stand-alone client for Nouns to surface information better - Commit to a three month sprint - Must be mobile friendly (extra points if **mobile native)** - Must build using Farcaster as the underlying layer - Must release work as open source **Awards** First, second and third place will each receive the equivalent of $50k USD. **Potential directions** - Reddit-like client that deeply integrates with Nouns socials to surface relevant items within the Nouns ecosystem. - Warpcast-like client with a focus on the algorithm that is used to curate what is displayed as the most relevant item for Nouns at any given time. # Logistics **Round** - The round will be hosted in the Nouns House - Two weeks proposal time - One week for voting by Nouns voters **Support** - [seneca](https://warpcast.com/seneca) and [ccarella](https://warpcast.com/ccarella) will be co-leading the round to attract and support teams. - The fine folks over in the [Farcaster Devs](https://warpcast.com/~/channel/fc-devs) channel will be happy to lend a hand along with the support of the Nouns community. **Funds** The funds will be escrowed from a [2/3 safe](https://etherscan.io/address/0xb5F3aAbc73daC4e4d3feCc41C44517f8013095Ee) where the signers are seneca, ccarella and krel. The funds will be sent to the Prop House round contract upon creation. **Compensation** 2.5 ETH as compensation for Chris Carella's time in co-leading the round.
Nouner Scout ran three rounds over the course of ~2 months. The rounds received 100+ submissions on which Nouns voter cast 2,000+ votes to welcome three new nouners: - A standalone [client](https://www.nounerscout.com/) was developed - [Army Pickle](https://offchain.prop.house/nouns/army-pickle) was awarded to [Sloppy Pencil](https://twitter.com/SloppyPencil), Rick and Morty animator. - [Fiery Cloud](https://offchain.prop.house/nouns/fiery-cloud) was awarded to [Ryo Yoshida](https://twitter.com/Tsubame_HI), CEO of [Tsubame Industries](https://tsubame-hi.com) - [Minty Snowman](https://offchain.prop.house/nouns/minty-snowman) was awarded to w1nt3r, OG crypto builder and founder of BasePaint. While governance activity from new participants has not been high, I think it's a net win to have top tier folks within Nouns.
Nouns x Basepaint was a success. Nouns is now forever etched into Basepaint history as Day [98](https://basepaint.xyz/canvas/98), [99](https://basepaint.xyz/canvas/99) and [100](https://basepaint.xyz/canvas/100). A total of 3,303 mints were made for an average of 2.57 ETH in proceeds to ~600 artists over a 3 day period. ![image](https://i.imgur.com/gIAOynm.png) *Final canvases (98, 99 and 100)*
# Nouns x Farcaster *tldr:* ***What?**** Nouns funds three teams for three-month sprints @ $50k each to build alternative communication clients for Nouns using the Farcaster protocol* ****Why?**** Nouns has yet to make meaningful leaps in how information is surfaced across the ecosystem. This tid bit from mike sold me: "We plan on promoting the program through web2 media outreach. Literally emailing and connecting with publishers and writers via social channels. " These sorts of programs are fantastic onboarding experiences for artists into Nouns and the broader ecosystem.
shared my feedback with nick via dms and echo what some have mentioned, uplink feels a bit like an extension of other projects, not so much nouns. id like to see the focus be more nouns centric. that said, i see many in the community have had positive experiences w the product and tean and so i see no reason to vote against. good luck!

I'm having a hard time justifying such a large ask given the small time frame on which the new direction has been tested. Big supporter of necfas - I'd vote for on a a lower ask with a shorter duration to test new grounds before doubling down.
