I hate to be the Scrooge against charities for little kids, but in line with how I’ve voted in the past, I don’t consider irl activations to be great uses for our treasury. I also think there are a lot of causes in the world that deserve support, but as a dao we should be first and foremost using the treasury to advance props in our direct benefit. Charitable acts should be encouraged - but encouraged at the individual level.
Maybe I’m just not getting it, but to me nouns already are digital art, and I don’t believe in pursuing the approval of the establishment art world. If nouns is to have cultural impact, it should be purely through bringing in people to our vision of cryptomedia, not creating more content that is legible to the existing cultural deep state. Making another website and more content to “elevate” nouns seems frownish.
Trait is nounish, but (imo) not worth the value of a whole noun. Even if props should be compensated, we should do so with a treasury noun rather than treasury eth, since it’s more aligned.
Regardless of the expense, this is arguably the most nounish thing we can do. We have been at the forefront of electronic governance, and this step cements that fronteirsmenship. Furthermore, this can be an important mechanism to allow us to pursue future props that shore up our auction and balance sheet value. Seems like an all around good move.
My vote won’t affect the outcome, and I have nothing against education in Uganda, but per my recent prior votes I no longer think it is responsible for us to be supporting IRL pseudomarketing efforts - I don’t see it as long term accretive to Nouns DAO nor an effective way to proliferate our meme. Frownish.
largely agree with lilfrog's vote. It would be one thing if we were directly collaborating with FWB and being more concrete with how the conference would drive value back to the DAO.
largely agree with lilfrog's vote. We should approach charity proposals as a more structured line item (if at all) rather than ad hoc proposals with high variance in amounts requested. Especially with auction and treasury at lows, we should aim to fund more props that (1) either help replenish the treasury, or (2) help proliferate nouns in a cryptonative way (ie supporting more on-chain/CC0/Open Source initiatives). voting against
provide-25-fork-nouns-as-liquidity-for-$nounsI cant comment on the regulatory aspect others highlighted, but I am in favor of the DAO actively participating in this token, largely as it drives utility back to the main unit of value, the NFT. As mentioned in farcaster, I think it makes sense for us to deposit Nouns into this contract for $nouns. What we do with the $nouns from there is debatable - I personally think it makes sense to add liquidity for the token on major dexes. Beyond that, i think it also makes sense for us to begin accepting/rewarding props in $nouns as an option in addition to the ETH and USDC we currently support. IMO this is a better option than directly handing out Nouns NFTs from treasury, since the recipient can make a decision to burn the $nouns, hold the $nouns, or swap the $nouns for another currency. I think one of the best ways that Nouns can deliver on its mission for proliferating the meme is through our own native utility currency - this is an important step towards that.
I really like the idea of aligning incentives with client creators via a slice of the auction/prop/etc revenue vs an upfront payment. Perhaps some unintended consequences downstream that I haven't thought through yet, but this seems largely more aligned than lump payments. We should consider similar mechanisms for other props.
Big supporter of Prop House (was an inaugural gardener myself). That said I largely concur with Lilfrog's sentiments, and would like to see them addressed. Abstaining here, but open to supporting a future version of the prop if it fails here and reasoning by team is provided.
On the one hand I can appreciate props that aim to make more sources for people to engage with nouns, on the other hand, I think if we have an insufficient level of brand awareness amongst non-nouners, I don't know how that is solved by another nounish trait explorer. At the risk of voting haphazardously on these types of props, I'll abstain here and come up with my own principles on how I will evaluate props like these in the future.
I agree with Juar's take, in that adding nounish traits shouldn't be compensated with a Noun. I am pro adding Nounish traits, I am pro rewarding Nouns to contributors, and I am pro this Tuba head. However, I think this would set a precedent where we would get a lot of trait spam. I would much rather people contribute to the Nounish meme and culture out of goodwill, with the DAO able to recognize contributions retroactively. While many proposals require meaningful capital to initiate and everyone deserves to be compensated for labor, I think when and where contributions to Nouns do not cost the creator too much (time or money), we should encourage and retroactively reward more of this.
personally think the trait is very nounish. I think a good trait should (1) be legible enough for anyone to quickly understand what it is (2) and generally be a symbol for nounish values. A squirt gun to me is something that is symbolic of youthful play, and I feel is plenty nounish.

"Top tier teams’ opportunity cost is far greater than Nouns’ current offer." I disagree with this take, both for this proposal, and broadly towards other proposals. I think we as Nouns should choose to work with proposers/organizations (and proposers/orgs in turn should work with us) if we are broadly aligned in pursuing "nounish" proposals, however broadly one chooses to define "nounish". Proposers should certainly be fairly compensated for their labor (and maybe even achieve further alignment with some form of "upside"), but I think there are better uses of our funds than spending it on optimizooooors who are weighing nouns' compensation against other projects. Nouns is such a compelling cryptonative project not because of the size of our treasury or ability to finance projects, but rather due to our idiosyncratic culture, and I think if either we or proposal recipients begin to make decisions on the basis of financial calculus that's pretty frownish. I'm not suggesting that seneca is suggesting that in this prop, but I want to etch my reasoning on chain for future discourse. FWIW, I am a huge fan of farcaster and huge supporter of farcaster related proposals for nounish proliferation. I'd love to first see how the existing tranche materializes before we make a decision on how to titrate the size or frequency of future farcaster X nouns proposals, but would definitely support a prop similar to this in the future.
I am totally on board for us voting for new traits idiosyncratically. I also think the platonic ideal of a bowlcut is pretty nounish. That said, I think if I saw this trait in the wild I would not immediately recognize it as a bowl cut. Would consider voting for an improved bowl cut trait.
I like more nounish stuff on farcaster frames. My only concern is by funding more communications channels, you increase the burden of too many communications. I'd like to see more props for frames that are actually novel things for nouns to do and talk about, rather than places to talk.
I like the proposers' nounish history. I am generally skeptical of "physical" stuff, if only because it can have at best limited reach, and is not the most crypto-native thing that we could be doing with our funds. While it' s certainly valuable for people to interact with the noun brand and iconography to become "onboarded", i feel like the conversion pipeline for physical projects like these are vague at best. That said, I think since the ask is <0.5% of the treasury, it seems like an ok use of funds and will vote for. In general, I would not support more expensive props for physical stuff as I would rather the treasury be used on more internet-native and crypto-native projects.
Similar to noun12, I have no opposition to nouns esports, but I feel spending over 10% of our treasury on a single branding partnership seems excessive. I would be in favor of a smaller prop - intuitively to me anything < $1M seems digestible for brand partnership props like this.
Looks like we're putting in 65K USD, but $100 x 360 = 36K USD. Any reason for the difference? I am all for partnerships like this, and for generally doing large props w/out immediate notion of financial recovery, but for props like this where we are working with commercial entities to make a specific product, it would be great to see proposals where we recoup as much or more than our provision. In this case that could mean producing more Ledgers, or raising the price (since they are commemorative and limited edition).
I am against. Giving people choice/liquidity to exit an organization counter-intuitively increases org alignment in my opinion. While I understand the protectionist instinct to raise the threshold to fork to be 30%, I believe that actually at the limit the best solution is a world where any nouner can choose to exit (or fork) at any point in time. Imagine if OpenSea only allowed people to sell out of ABC NFT community if N people agreed, or if Uniswap only allowed people to sell out of XYZ token if N amt was swapped. This means only holders with substantial financial influence or political influence can enact change - very frownish. I do not feel that belief is aligned with nounish (and cryptonative) values of open and permissionless expression and choice. I would support a lower fork threshold.
I was originally for, but am now against based on thebower's point. I am support the idea of granting nouns to people who are contributing/contributed to the ecosystem, but we should make the venue for that singular as opposed to fragmented and ad hoc. I like the idea of using nouner scout for this and directing individuals to that venue. Pro these individuals getting nouns, would prefer through nouner scout.
I like the idea of prop house as a way to distribute nouns themselves. The concerns I have are around the 2 payments - I am somewhat against the idea of packaging of different expenses together, since it means the voters have to accept or reject the whole basket. In this case, I think a separate compensation prop and a scouter prop could be merited, but should not be bundled in this one. For that reason I am against, but would be for if separated out. I also don't yet have a PoV on whether or not the extant abandoned Nouns should be repurposed, or if we should just burn them all and issue new Nouns as part of props like this. Not a gating factor on this vote, but something I want to think more about, or would like to hear others' PoV on.
Overall I've liked the output of Nounish (subjective). My concerns with this proposal are twofold. First, I think the ask of ~1M for 6mo of work may be fair compensation for the team, but unfortunately with a significantly lower treasury balance, i think this is pretty high. For an entire year, this would be ~2M USD (>10% of overall treasury) to be spending on marketing content. I am all for marketing content, but I think that large chunk of the treasury could probably be spent on more accretive proposals (subjective). Given lower treasury amt, I would be open to a lower prop amt, even if it slows output amt or pace. Second, I am not a fan of followers as a KPI. Followers/Impressions are always an extrinsic metric, and something we have no control over. We should always strive for intrinsic metrics and KPIs. Against this time around.
